This is a restaurant review, cannot comment on inn. Also would be 4.5 if possible. If you're looking for private, personal, and comfortable dining experience this is a great place to go. It seems the way this place is setup is there are only a handful of tables and each reservation is off-set by about 30 minutes. As other review state it is a husband (the chef) and wife (head waitress) duo who head this restaurant inn. I booked the reservation over a month in advance and I'm pretty sure it is necessary if you plan to go. The food- Fantastic and Different. Wild Boar Sausage - this was delicious, possibly the best sausage dish I ever had. This dish was literally bursting with flavor served with red wine sauce and mushrooms. Elk Loin - Delicious and before you ask, no it wasn't gamey! The service - Great personal service from the staff, however sometimes the head waitress let her opinions be known. She made it clear that she wasn't exactly happy with all the out of town business she was getting from their rave reviews. She also made odd comments on what she thought was proper male-female etiquette when the two of us were clearly joking about who was paying the bill. She also made a sarcastic comment saying she couldn't believe that we actually had manners enough for me to let my significant take the seat being held out for her, stating that most couples leave her speechless when the male takes the seat being held out. The service itself was great but some of her comments could have been left out even if she didn't mean anything by it. The price - VERY REASONABLE. Two appetizers, two entrees and a bottle of wine, about $100. The atmosphere - Business Casual? Lodgey clothes here. The place itself literally is set in the living room of the inn, but they take a lot of pride in the restaurant and I would dress the part. Again there are only a few tables, and reservations are off-set so it is very intimate. Overall - Delicious Exotic Game cooked the way you have never had it! Very intimate, romantic atmosphere! For our 8th annual Sisters' Gathering, we chose Paradox Lodge and it perfectly met our needs and interests. Located a few blocks from "downtown" and, therefore, in a bit of a quieter area, this B&B has a Adirondack-meets-Lake Placid Olympics-meets-comfy-retro feel to it. Rustic touches abound everywhere, the grounds, which abut the end of Lake Placid, have thoughtful and colorful plantings, hanging flower baskets, old milk cans, wooden skis, Radio Flyer Wagons, and bird houses. We took advantage of the 3 kayaks, and there is also a canoe. We lazed away afternoons on rocking Adirondack chairs, wooden chaises, and enjoyed our home-made meals (there is a refrigerator that guest can store food in, which is a really generous touch) under the twinkling, nighttime lights of the umbrella-d picnic table, The rooms are decorated with much attention to detail, the beds were super comfy, although the Lodge is on the main drag, even with the windows wide open we did not hear a sound from the McDonald's across the street, the sink mounted on an antique Singer Sewing Machine table is cool, the clawfoot mini-tubs are fun, although a little difficult to maneuver in and out from because the shower curtain is attached all the way around. A really good breakfast, prepared mostly by Moses/Red, co-owner with his wife, Nan, is served with panache (and a tableside visit and stand-up comedy from Red), vintage plates, and, wait for it...the New York Times! Both Red and Nan share their thoughts, hiking and swimming hole suggestions and local and national/political gossip. From the location, to the decor, to the hospitality, to the great sleep, the lakeside view and kayaks, the hiking, walking, drinking, eating, and blabbing that we did, we could not have asked for more. read more

All I can say is that the food was amazing and the entire space was very warm and inviting. I has the lobster bisque, which came with a small piece of lobster. Fantastic! My main was a rib-eye done perfectly, maybe a little redder than usual, but it was seasoned just right. It has a nice sear with just the right amount of seasoning. Would go back in a hear beat. If you are in Lake Placid, you need to try this place out, you will not regret it! read more

This was one of the best places I've ever stayed! Nan and Moses were so kind and helpful even though we only stayed for a night. The place has such charm and a beautiful backyard area with kayaks and canoes that are free of charge! Great location and just wonderful experience. read more

Had the Elk Loin. It was encrusted with herbs over a langanberry and carmelized onion sauce. The vegetables were simply prepared but perfectly cooked. They added fresh peas that were shucked that morning. I never had fresh peas and the chef told me fresh peas are like a first date. Hilarious chef very funny talked to the customers and his wife was our waitress, also very friendly. Eclectic decor. Great atmosphere. My only complaint is I ate too much delicious food. read more

Paradox Lodge provided us with the best memories from our trip to Lake Placid. Chef Red and his wife Nan welcomed us into their home, entertained us with the history of their inn and fed us one of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The steak was expertly prepared in an open kitchen and the portions were very large and seved piping hot. The quality of the ingrediants and the pride taken in both preparation and serving were obvious. Our meal was so wonderful that we returned the very next night for a second dinner that was even better than the first. If you are in Lake Placid and looking for a place to sleep, eat or entertain, Paradox Lodge must be on your list. The warm and welcoming atmosphere speaks of the town that surrounds it and the owners who clearly enjoy sharing their lives with visitors. The filet mignon au poivre cannot be missed. You will thank God for being so lucky to dine with Red and Nan at Paradox- the best in Lake Placid by a mile. read more

The best restaurant in Lake Placid by far. The chef is a master. I ordered a simple veal chop and it was easily the best I ever had and that includes some top Manhattan and Brooklyn eateries. I think the mark of a good chef is in how well they prepare the simplest dish, like this chop. It was memorable. Only thing is, this place is not cheap with prices comparable to top places in NYC. Totally worth it though if you want to blow some dough on a great meal. read more

Beware!! We made a reservation for 3 nights and stayed in the Daisy Room with which were we were not happy. We checked out after 1 night and payed for the night. The owner then put 2 more nights on my credit without my knowledge, 1-2 days after we checked out. She hung up on me when I called about the charge and she wouldn't take my calls. Three months later my credit card company got the money back and refunded me. That was not good or honest customer service so I would recommend that you go elsewhere! You are paying to be in Lake Placid but it's not worth the price. We stayed in Tupper Lake in cabins for half the price and the owners there were lovely. read more

While spending a weekend up in Lake Placid looking at our wedding venue we ended up staying and falling in love with Paradox Lodge. After getting to know the owners Nan and Red over some wine and delicious food we knew that we wanted to make Paradox Lodge part of our wedding weekend. Fast forward a few months later and all of our family and a few friends were staying at Paradox Lodge. We had our Friday night rehearsal dinner there. It was the best decision ever!!!! Paradox lodge was the perfect place for both sides of our families to get to know each other in an intimate setting. Nan and Red take care of everything, each room is unique too. We rarely make a trip to Lake Placid without indulging in dinner at Paradox - and it is ALWAYS the highlight of our trip. Paradox quite simply is the best restaurant we have ever been to - anywhere. The menu is always amazing - without being 'fu fu'. The chef simply relies on highest quality ingredients and prepares them to perfection. In addition to the entree itself, the plate is beautifully filled out with amazing vegetables. After dozens of visits we have never been even slightly disappointed (despite our very high expectations). The ambiance is warm and authentic. There is no better steak (specifically Filet) on the planet - but every other dish is just as good. If you can make it through to dessert, Nan's crisps are legendary. Red and Nan (chef/owners) are perfect hosts and make it very personal for newcomers as well as old friends. Don't miss it. read more

We stayed at the Paradox Lodge expecting a tranquil, lakefront vacation spot. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The rooms themselves were cozy, but the walls between the rooms were literally paper-thin. While lying in bed, we could hear every word of the (normal volume) conversation going on next door. Not a plus when you're planning a romantic getaway. The road noise woke us up repeatedly throughout the night, and the property is not directly on the lake. Not at all what was advertised, and ultimately, very disappointing. read more

Without a doubt the best food in the Tri-Lakes area, maybe even in the Northern NY. Yes it's pricey but you get what you pay for and the servings are huge. Try the New Zealand Red deer, it's awesome. The lobster bisque is great but I agree that the fois gras is great (if you like sliced raw liver). Also don't leave without trying the creme brulee. Reservations are pretty much required. read more

My wife and I had a delicious meal here in early June. My steak was outstanding while she raved about her mussels. Everything on the menu was fresh (OMG the tomatoes!!!), the decor was charming, and the staff friendly. We vacation frequently in Lake Placid and will definitely be back.
