Ended up her because there were white out conditions on the way to Montreal... we had passed this…read moreplace so many times and always thought it to be charming. We were so right! They took us in on a very snowy Thursday night... blizzard conditions. We had the Jay room a king size bed and queen futon. It was my husband and our two daughters. Nothing was open for dinner as the town had closed because of the weather - the innkeeper made us cheddar scallion scones fresh out of the oven they were delicious. The inn is classic Adirondack wide plank floors fieldstone fire place.. big porch with Adirondack chairs. The room was large and had its own bathroom. Nothing fancy but absolutely perfect. Would definitely come back and recommend !!

Very disappointed. I'm keeping this brief but wanted to warn others because some of the issues we…read morehad staying here. The room: We asked for a room with a view and rustic surroundings when we booked. The room was nothing as expected. We had a view of the parking lot. We also learned as soon as we arrived the room had no lock on it. The owner felt that it was not necessary and assured us we should not be concerned. In this day and age, a lock IS necessary! The bathroom: We had a jacuzzi hoping to enjoy a hot bath after a long day of hiking. Well, when we tried the jacuzzi, the hot water knob kept falling off. Went to the owner and he basically just pushed it back on and said it was not a big issue. The timer on the jacuzzi kept shutting off within a few minutes so we had to keep pushing the jet button for it to work continuously. The bathroom had other problems. The center light had a bulb out. There was no shower curtain (I reported this as well). There was a shelf in the bathroom that was missing completely. Very rustic indeed! The bedroom: The "queen" bed was 2 single beds pushed together so me and my husband could not sleep near each other otherwise we would sink in the middle. After hiking all day, we passed out each night anyway, but this was a pretty pathetic sleeping situation. Breakfast: No breakfast was served at this B&B when we stayed since the cook didn't work on the days we stayed. Okay, I could handle that but not even coffee was available in the morning unless you used the Kuerig in the kitchen that was for the guests. We could have waited until one of the owners got up to make a real pot, but at this point, I opted to go get food at the diner. The last straw: We came back to our room one day after a long day of hiking and the door to our room was wide open. We believe the cleaning lady must have had to leave suddenly (I'm guessing) since there was some cleaning supplies left in the room. This was the final straw, and since we were leaving the next day, I never said anything to the owners about this. By this point, I was pretty much done with this place as you can imagine. Honestly, so much was wrong with this place, I would never go back. Stay here at your own risk.

There are places you can find on a map, and others you can only reach with luck or Ruby Slippers…read more "The N" is ruby slippers all the way -- over-the-rainbow magical. The elements are easy enough to list: fabulous swimmable lake, fresh vegetables within walking distance, lots of hiking, farmer's market in town once a week, easy places to grill, many points of interest (a drive to an abandoned iron mine for the history minded, or visit the ladies that make goat cheese and pet a goat). And a sky filled with billions and billions of stars... but other places can make similar claims. As you see from the other reviews, many guests have fallen under the special spell of the place's enchantment long ago, and are drawn back. Me too, now.

The cabins are always kept nicely, the staff are extremely friendly and will do anything to make their guest's truly amazing. The N is a magical and special place that anyone can enjoy and I hope to share it with more guests in the future.

Bought whole new bedding as to not use the ones provided (nothing is disinfected in these cottages, and apparently is primarily the guests responsibility to prepare the cabin for the next guests, as mistaken for "vintage" or "rustic" by other guests but it's really you breathing in the previous guest skin cells and bacteria. Wear your shower shoes!) Later after leaving being blamed for a "stain" on the unused comforter that was packed away. Upon leaving I'm told there's an issue with our cabin. It needed a deep clean due to "too much dog hair" so much so that after only 8 days broke the (hopefully regularly) emptied staff vacuum. Even after passing our visual inspection, when we were only asked to keep the hair on the furniture and floors to a minimum. Not spit-shine the facility. For "whatever reason" this deep clean was needed after us, but still happened to miss the used q tips on the living room floor before we arrived even after having such a "strenuous inspection". We were required to know every unwritten rule. But all the while there are people not picking up after their dogs, breaking beds and leaving a giant yellow piss rings around the toilet that will be welcomed back warmly. Some of which being employed by the owner.

Reasonable rates, friendly people running the place, and right at the edge of the Moosalamoo wilderness. If hiking, fishing, running, cycling, swimming, snowshoeing or cross country skiing is your thing, this is a great location. Great trails are right nearby. We stayed in cabin #6. Very cozy and fully equipped. The cottages are rustic and simple, and reminds us of a time when cute housekeeping cottages dotted the VT landscape. If you need anything it's right near Middlebury and Brandon.

We were charmed. PROS - Location location location. The cabins are located right in the center of things, never more than 30-45 min from all mayor hikes. - Cozy and comfortable. Each cabins comes equipped with most basic amenities (coffeemaker, toaster, pots and pans, dishes, silverware and glassware) - Parking is very close to each cabin, so you never have to walk more than a few steps. CONS - Wifi, even though it was offered we had mixed feelings on this. My boyfriends phone picked it up right away, mine never did. This was from our cabin, so perhaps if you were closer to main house it would have been better? I think they need a better wifi connection. - No microwave. I wish I had ask more specific questions. - Not that many hooks in the cabin. We did long winter hikes and needed a way to hang our clothes only to realize that there weren't that many hooks. We improvised by hanging in curtain rods and on the doors. This could be quite helpful. Overall, it was a good value for the money. Wayne is a great host. We never made it to the main cabin so perhaps some of the above would have been different.

Andrea, the proprietor, keeps the carriage house and the grounds to the property very tastefully appointed. While the carriage house is located right in the heart of this small, college-friendly city, Howard St. is a very quiet residental venue and is situated in a very nice part of town. The location was actually very convenient. Just about a mile from the heart of the little bustling down-town area, the mile long walk each waty was a great way to get exercise and to experience the sights on foot. The carriage/guest house itself is very clean, neat, orderly and comfortably decorated. To our delight, we even found fresh milk and OJ in the mini-fridge, which was very thoughtful. A cupboard also offers complimentary fresh cereals, teas, hot chocolate and coffee for use by any guest. There were PLENTY of freshly laundered linens available, also. The ONLY amenity which could use a little upgrading (but its not a big deal) is the television (old tube style) and the VCR would be better replaced by a modern DVD player. (VHS- what's that?) Free Wi-Fi is supplied by the proprietor, which is a very convenient amenity by today's standards. We will definitely be back for a second visit!

They do not serve breakfast as it is a 2 floor guesthouse, a studio on each floor, but it is a very nice place. They do have coffee, tea, cereal, milk, and orange juice kept in the kitchenette area with wine glasses, flatware, etc. It was $366 total for two nights, a bit expensive, but I guess you get a better comfortable deal all in one, so why not! The upstairs studio, where we stayed, can accomodate up to four people (2 on bed, one on additional bed, and one on the couch). It is definitely a good share, or for a couple away from home. *Btw, beware of the toilet bowl... it did clog up.
