SSC provides a thankless, but critical, service to or community. While I understand the temptation…read moreto hate them because they are a single-source supplier to most of us, so the natural (knee-jerk) assumption is that they are cheating us somehow is very human, but completely unfair. Naturally, the only time any of us think about SSC is when they miss a pickup our we're paying their bill. For the most part, our ONLY intersection with the company revolves around paying for a service we don't think about very much and is, therefore invisible to us or complaining because "the garbage and recycling fairies" didn't show up and it forced us to think about them! The truth is they quietly (Okay, maybe the service they provideis inevitably a little noisy) do what they do (for the most part) without failure did that we never (or, arguably, seldom) have to think about them (or what they do)! They are, in fact, completely invisible to us until they make a mistake and then we whiner about them and how much money we pay them to do something we don't want to do for ourselves, but resent being forced to pay someone else to do! I usually pay my bill at the office in person which had afforded me an opportunity to observe how professional, understanding and customer-oriented the company is and how well they respond to any complaint. Truthfully, SSC is one of Bellingham's best run, efficient, responsive companies and were lucky to have them!

Friday came and went with no bin pick-up, so I called on Monday and was told they didn't make it and that I need to put my bin out again on Friday. The next week was another repeat of this. So this coming Monday, I will call again, but with a low expectation of getting any kind of service. Now I'll wait and see how long this incompetence continues. I miss the day when companies actually did what they promised to do.

Tonight I witnessed a Sunrise Salvage flatbed truck merging on the freeway. There was an RV in the…read moreright lane, who was prevented from moving over by another car in the left lane. The Sunrise driver absolutely REFUSED to yield in order to merge, eventually forcing all 3 cars to be driving side-by-side down a 2-lane freeway. It was insane. THEN - the Sunrise Salvage flatbed, obviously pissed that the RV had the audacity to not slam on the brakes in order to let him have his way, zoomed over, passed the RV and cut back over in the most aggressive manner I've ever witnessed. The RV had to swerve in order to avoid being hit and and damn near drove off the freeway. So I called the company to report unsafe driving. I got "Steve." When I started to tell him my story he demanded to know what vehicle I was in. I told him I was in a white minivan. He then proceeded to tell me that he was IN the vehicle with the driver and started to list all the ways that the RV driver was "wrong." (Note, merging cars do not have right-of-way.) So I asked Steve, "So are you telling me that when your driver swerved over to cut off the RV that was safe driving?" He replied, "Well, that was a little bit of payback." I informed him I would be calling the police and he hung up on me. I prefer that local companies not play "payback" on I-5 with a large flatbed truck and a 40-foot RV. At 70 miles an hour. He is lucky no one was hurt or killed. I will NEVER do business with this company, and I suggest others in Whatcom County follow my lead.

Prompt and professional, very consistent and helpful. They have done a great job for years in and…read moreindustry that can go from "feast to famine" overnight. Thank you!
