Don't bother going here. I lived in Bellingham for many years and moved. Went back to the home I was selling to get a bunch of old car parts that are obviously heavy and metal. Also I had radiator and some copper. Left getting $11.86. It was me and a friend of mine and yes we are both women. My husband was Pissed they took advantage of us as well as his friends. Sexism in 2016 so sad don't waste your time. Try another recycler. read more

If, like me, you only have a pickup truck of (s)crap you're tired of looking at, don't worry about going to Z - just follow the signs. The sign read "check in at office" The man behind the counter explained "pull up onto the scale and stop. When the green light comes on, drive on into the yard and wait at the stop sign. A guy will come out and tell you what to do next." At the stop sign a guy came up, looked over the load and said "back it on in right over there." And then he said something you really don't hear much - "do you need a hand unloading?" I didn't, but I appreciate the offer. After tossing my load onto the pile I drove back onto the scale, got the green light and went back into the office. Two hundred forty pounds of scrap steel earned me six bucks cash. Six bucks for some junk I was sick of looking at? Deal! These guys are great. They'll let you walk through their junk yard of 'for sale' items, they sell new steel and you can watch the claw crane throw steel around all you want. So, I haven't been back to Z's for a while. While before they had a guy that was really knowledgeable I guess he must've left, because if you don't know what you want, you won't get any help about the steel. So, the prices are still good, and the help in the yard is still very good, the help in the office is kinda poor. read more

Z Recyclers (often referred to as "Z's") is a convenient place to unload various metal commodities that SSC is unable to take curbside on recycle pickup days AND if you have enough of a more valuable metal (e.g. Aluminum), you can sell it to them. I've done that for many years and have always enjoyed the experience of working with them...until today. From now on, I will save the considerable drive time and pay the required $5 to haul to SSC's transfer station in Ferndale because, sadly, during my visit, the office wreaked of cigarette smoke. To compound my frustration, none of the three employees behind the counter were wearing face masks. Nothing speaks to a customer's unappreciation quite like the surprise insult of cigarette smoke and obvious potential airborne Coronavirus in a business's office. The metal material I take to SSC from now on will, ultimately, end up as property of Z Recyclers and I'm okay with that me because my health is more important than saving/making a few dollars. Unlike my experience today at Z's, the cashier at the local transfer station ALWAYS thanks me for my business and they also wear a mask. I will go where I'm respected. read more

I've purchased a lot of metal for welding and fab projects, both used and new, from Z. Their prices are fair and the guys in the office and yard are very helpful. With regards to the person who got a low price for their scrap, nobody took advantage of you, that was probably market price for dirty lower grade scrap. Steel scrap is cheap and plentiful. Scrap prices collapsed a few years ago. You can always go in the office and ask for an estimate before you take the Monet. Chances are you had little in the way of copper. read more

Read the previous review. I totally understand being pissed. I too would be let down. Here is where you get mad at me. Z 's is no better than any other scrape business, nor are they worse. Scrap prices are super low right now. Call Skagit steel. They would have charged you to bring that in. really. I live in Alger so I shop when I take stuff in. I called Skagit to see what they were paying for scrap Aluminum they said they would accept aluminum cans for free and charge for anything else!? WHAT!? So even though it hurt it is better than being charged. You missed out. about four years ago the price was up and I got about $500 for one load. Just check before you take stuff in next time then you can decide to wait or not. read more
