This is hands-down, one of the BEST city parks I've been to. In terms of the sheer scope of…read moreactivities and expansive trails in the middle of a city, Mount Royal Park is a true marvel. The ascent to the top can be taxing if you take the pathway that includes the stairs. I would recommend taking one of the trails up to pace yourself and enjoy the journey to the scenic views. The park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the legendary Landscape Architect who also designed New York's Central Park, and the grounds for Stanford...the impressive list goes on. You really get the impression that this park was thoughtfully designed and planned to harmonize with the native species of plants. There are two Belvederes where you can view the city. We ventured up to Kondiaronk Belvedere and were treated to sweeping views of the city. If you are looking for a postcard-perfect view of Montreal, this is it! Mount Royal Park is a must-do and was definitely one of the highlights of our Canadian trip. Don't miss this park, it's immersive qualities are outstanding and your are rewarded with incredible views if you persevere to the top!

I used to love this place and go a lot as a teen and young adult. One year I almost drowned,…read moreslipped and was sucked under by the current. Fire and EMT had to use a hovercraft to get to me. In the end I was ok, with minor concussion and lesions but that was the scariest time in my life. I was pinned to the bottom for what seemed like forever, feeling like it was all slipping away to fast, and all i could think about was not being able to pick up my kids on time from their dads. Thank goodness they were not with me that day. No a great place for little kids AT ALL. Just be safe. Mother nature is not one to mess around with. I will give it a 5 because it is a spectacular place, and gorgeous.

Most recently, we were enjoying a lovely and peaceful Sunday morning stroll and picnic breakfast when the stillness was shattered by a woman (purportedly teaching some sort of class) braying like a jackass and screaming at the top of her lungs, disturbing other users and the many wonderful ducks which, ultimately, took flight at all the commotion. Not a lot of picnic tables or park benches but everyone who shows up here seems to be well stacked with their own stuff, inflatable kayaks, stand-up paddles, outdoor bbq, volleyball nets, etc. Nun's Island has an extensive network of bike paths but there's also a great hiking trail along the waters edge, in the back yards of the exclusive residences of this wealthy bedroom community, which also intersect at this park. Given how crazy "mainland" Verdun has become in the past 3 years especially that dank beach, I'm happy to find a much quieter, cleaner and natural place where I can watch the birds, read books underneath the cool shade of willow trees and possibly venture and wade in the water and not have to see a single obnoxious hipster or man-bun in sight.

We biked here from out in Mile End so after a hectic ride through the city, arriving on this island was heaven. It's deeply peaceful and really really fun to ride around on, amazing bike paths rolling through quiet trees and protected, diverse nature. People are here fishing, walking, kayaking and generally relaxing. I didn't find any earth shattering views or anything like that, but a real sense of peace really close to the heart of the city.

The park is approximately 1,500,000 sq ft in area and it is named after René Lévesque, the prime minister of Quebec from 1976 to 1985. The park is ample and it has a bicycle path, an arboretum and we were able to see several species of birds. Walking along the water is soothing and very nice. If you are driving, the road access to the park is mainly through the Chemin du Canal, an extension of Saint Patrick Street.

I've actually helped to throw a gorgeous wedding here in the heritage buildings a number of years ago, it was challenging but so memorable and I'd highly recommend it if you're willing to do the work and deal with the constraints of the space (when they reopen). But winter here is my favourite. We love to come here cross-country skiing as a family, being on these huge trails and wild edges of the island. It's always breezy here in the summer, even hot days are soothing, the waves are wild and you just feel a release from the heaviness of the city. All the more appreciated during these crazy times.

I've been training my first year for spartan races and discovered a lot of groups use this park for some serious workouts. They take place all season long! Yes u will find us in short mid winter. Get ur tack shoes on and go try it out.. please make sure you don't try the the obstacles alone.. they can be dangerous.
