We biked here from out in Mile End so after a hectic ride through the city, arriving on this island was heaven. It's deeply peaceful and really really fun to ride around on, amazing bike paths rolling through quiet trees and protected, diverse nature. People are here fishing, walking, kayaking and generally relaxing. I didn't find any earth shattering views or anything like that, but a real sense of peace really close to the heart of the city.

Not a lot of picnic tables or park benches but everyone who shows up here seems to be well stacked with their own stuff, inflatable kayaks, stand-up paddles, outdoor bbq, volleyball nets, etc. Nun's Island has an extensive network of bike paths but there's also a great hiking trail along the waters edge, in the back yards of the exclusive residences of this wealthy bedroom community, which also intersect at this park. Given how crazy "mainland" Verdun has become in the past 3 years especially that dank beach, I'm happy to find a much quieter, cleaner and natural place where I can watch the birds, read books underneath the cool shade of willow trees and possibly venture and wade in the water and not have to see a single obnoxious hipster or man-bun in sight.

No really...I wasn't that excited, but I was up for it and we packed our balaclavas and lots of layers of clothing, so we might as well use it right? We're so glad we did it. The park itself looks quite large. We only did a portion of it as it was super cold. So we took the trail to the rapids which is pretty and you get to see the city from there. The trail is nicely marked and you can actually go all the way around the lake that's there. We just turned around after getting to the rapids. It's quite picturesque and some folks were doing cross country skiing around the park. Definitely a lovely spot to get a view and just get outside.

With coffee in hand, we wandered through the pathways where colossal living sculptures seemed to rise out of the ground. Each one was a marvel--crafted from hundreds of thousands of flowers and plants, yet so artfully shaped that they felt like characters telling their own stories. "Mother Earth," with her serene face and cascading waterfall arm, embodied both strength and gentleness. "The Man Who Planted Trees" reminded me of the power of one person's quiet perseverance. Think next-level topiary and you'll be close to having an idea of what this is like. Access is easy via the Metro but just be sure to nit muss the stop otherwise you cross into "zone B" at the next stop and can't get back on if your metro pass doesn't cover both zones...a nice Metro staff person did take pity on us confused out of towners and let us through a manual gate. Signage is decent around the park, and restrooms and water bottle fillers are available but not much in terms of food so eat before you go or bring snacks.

It has a gazebo, fountain and is decorated with Portuguese motifs such as the Rooster of Barcelos. It has benches and a bit of greenspace but is mostly paved stones. The park was designed by Carlos R. Martinez, the same landscape architect who designed the Park of the Americas (Parc des Ameriques) just south of this park. The fountain at the centre of the park was designed by Ruiz Dias. Apparently Leonard Cohen used to hang out here, as his house was across the street. I walked through this park often when I lived in Montreal and would sit on one of the benches and have a snack. It's a small but nice park. Review #27 (2025)

Covid warning - very few people here seem to be observing social distancing rules nor are they…read morewearing masks. The riverside parks and Verdun and LaSalle have been packed solid the past few days because of the warm weather. Runners, joggers, bikers, strollers, families doing BBQ and picnics, kids, couples, guys hanging out downing a couple of brewskis together, they've all been here in droves. I've seen very, very few people keeping the social distance rules or wearing the required masks. I don't think people seem to understand the gravity of this pandemic and are just treating the warm days as some kind of vacation holiday. I don't mean to be a killjoy but Quebec is the epicentre of the Canadian pandemic. Think about it, People.
