Our youth attendees received chicken tenders and fries, it was 2 tenders and a handful of fries, approximately 10-12 fries. Our adults received a small chicken cutlet, half of a potato sliced, and for vegetables 5 string beans and two baby carrots. The vegetarian plate was one potato's quartered and a handful of veggies. To my dismay, when the owner was told about the dissatisfaction with the portion sizes, he was extremely rude, disrespectful, and dismissive. I would not recommend doing business with Farmington Hills Manor.

They insisted on a plated meal and at first you think wow - fancy and convenient! But they really do that to control the portions because they do not cook the food in house - it is outsourced from another vendor which I realized on the day of our event. The portions were offensive - adult plates that we charged our guests $40 for came with a small piece of chicken, 1 piece of potato cut in half, and literally 4-5 pieces of green beans and carrots. We were stunned! The kids plates - which we charged $25 for - had a meager 2 chicken tenders and 10-12 French fries. It was so few we counted them! Our vegetarian requests that we gave in advance? They simply took the chicken off the plate and served the handful of vegetables and they upped the potatoes to 4. After the event I talked to the owner to voice our dissatisfaction and the charm did a sharp turn to rude and condescending. I asked for compensation for the vegetarian dishes - he said sure I'll pack you up some veggies (as he showed me a Sams club value size of frozen mixed veggies). There were other events I had planned on booking with him - this could have been a fruitful relationship but after his response to my complaint - I told him to erase my January booking and we would not be back and he did not care. The earliest portion was erected in 1869 by Palmer Sherman. The twentieth century saw several additions here including the impressive six-foot high stone wall constructed in 1917 along the east property line. In 1969, Goodenough heirs gave this handsome Georgian manor home and five acres of land to the Farmington area to be used as a community center. This facility hosts conferences and club meetings, numerous weddings and receptions, and recreation courses in crafts and the arts. Local citizens are proud of the Longacre House, which is an area landmark." I attended my fiancee's good friend's pellikoduku at the Longacre House. (A pellikoduku is a traditional Indian pre-wedding ceremony for the groom.) This house is located about 25 miles from downtown Detroit. It takes a little over 30 minutes to get to the house from downtown Detroit without any traffic. The house is owned and operated by the City of Farmington Hills. This is a beautiful historic brick home that's been well-maintained, inside and out. The outside is picturesque with finely-manicured lawns and nicely-landscaped grounds. I made sure to get a picture with my fiancee in front of the house where there is a nice brick pathway and colorful plants and flowers. The event took place inside what I believe is the Longacre House's main event space. It looks like a living room (with fireplace) that has been converted and combined with perhaps a back porch or patio area to serve as an open event space. There were five round white tablecloth tables set up with place settings (each table seating 12 people) along with buffet-style catered food and drink. The event space had a drink and dessert station while the salad, entrees, and sides were set up in a separate room nearby. The house was simple with minimal decor - nice chandeliers, curtains, and hardwood floors. There's a small garden and gazebo outside. I believe dinner catering was provided by Longacre House's in-house catering group, Gourmet Express Catering & Event Planning Group based out of South Lyon, Michigan. We had glasses of a fruit drink with slices of strawberry, purple grapes, and Mandarin oranges. Dinner consisted of spinach salad with croutons, an herb rice risotto, asparagus, lasagna, and a potato dish with vegetables cooked-in such as chopped carrots and squash. There was a coffee and dessert station with both regular and decaf coffee plus assorted dessert bites including what looked like brownie squares and baklava. In general, I thought the food was good. I love greens and vegetables so I got seconds on the spinach and asparagus. This was a fairly straightforward event. Aside from dinner, there was a pre-dinner gathering, sort of like a cocktail hour, where people mixed and mingled. After dinner, the actual pellikoduku activities commenced. There was also a mehndi (Indian body art) artist who applied red-orange mehndi "stains" to many of the female guests. Longacre House staff were present, but they were fairly hands-off as the food and drink were self-serve. They mainly made sure the food and drink stations were in order, replenished as needed, and cleared finished dinner plates. They were professionally (formally) dressed, polite, and did a good job throughout the night. If you get a chance to check out other rooms of the house or take a look around outside at the grounds, you should. It's a neat place to explore. There's plenty of parking too which is convenient for guests.

The bathrooms were super clean and accessible. The film was screened on the main floor in the entrance where a large garage like door was opened onto a patio with lights, fire pits, and s'mores. They also had a bar there. They have a huge lot for parking. Chroma seems to be a new neighbor in Detroit and they were still working on some interior construction when I visited. I'm so looking forward to seeing Chroma's progress and what she will be used for in the future!

I was just interested in the historical marker and the building itself. Unfortunately, we did not have an opportunity to walk the grounds around the building to view the lake as a keen eye can see across to Canada from here. The marker reads, "Russell A. Alger, Jr., (1873-1930) son of Michigan's Governor Russell Alger, built this Italian Renaissance style mansion in 1910. Alger was one of the founders of the Packard Motor Car Company, Charles A. Platt of New York designed this elaborate structure, and Ellen Shipman of New York landscaped the grounds. The home, situated on Lake St. Clair, was referred to as "The Moorings." Alger lived here until his death in 1930. From 1936 to 1948, the house was used by the Detroit Institute of Arts as a branch museum. In 1949 it was deeded to the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Association in memory of those who served and died in our nation's wars and for facilitating the educational, cultural and civic needs of the community." It also mentions that it was erected in 1983 by the Michigan History Division. Russell A. Alger, Sr. was a Civil War general who served as the 20th Governor of Michigan from 1885 to 1887, US Senator and eventually, US Secretary of War under President William McKinley from 1897 to 1899. He was replaced during the Spanish-American War. The original home is still here and has had an auditorium added in 1962 and art wings added in 1977 and 1993. The original home building was donated by the Alger family to the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Association in 1949 and is an event venue. I'd like very much for someone to invite me to a wedding here!
