I went to a wedding at the colony club this fall. It was a great venue. Nice bar nice flow from the wedding ceremony into appetizers and drinks. It's very pretty. My friends had a late night snack set up coneys and fries Michigan stuff. You have to be aggressive at the bar to get attention and service. This place is stunning! My 1st time experiencing this club was in March 2026. It was for The PuLSE Women's History Breakfast. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and I loved the coffee bar! The restrooms were clean and had a 1920's vibe that I adored. Definitely many places for photo ops. We did take pics, just not on my phone...sorry! Choosing The Colony Club as our wedding reception venue was one of the best decisions we made. After getting engaged, we toured multiple metro and downtown Detroit venues with the hope of finding something elegant, classic, and timeless. Many were beautiful--but when we walked into The Colony Club, we immediately felt that this was the one. The entire style and vibe were exactly what we were looking for. We fell in love with every space--from Bar Charles to the breathtaking Grand Ballroom. We were also impressed by how much was included without extra add-on costs: tables, chairs, food, liquor, signature drinks, and more. It made planning easier and helped us stay within budget. From our very first meeting, we worked with Amber, our sales manager, and she stayed with us up until the week of the wedding. Amber was absolutely exceptional throughout the entire process. She was helpful, organized, flexible, and so easy to communicate with. We met multiple times at the venue, both with and without her, while making decisions for the big day, and she was always available to answer questions, address concerns, and offer thoughtful advice. Amber took care of coordinating with our other vendors, and I never once felt worried about how things would come together. Even during the stressful week leading up to the wedding--when I was emailing and calling constantly--she was patient, reassuring, and truly amazing to work with. Now the food... wow. It was exceptional! We still have guests raving about everything--from the appetizers to the entrées. The service and quality exceeded all of our expectations, and friends and family continue to tell us what an incredible wedding it was. From our very first appointment with Amber to the moment our reception began, we could not imagine having our wedding anywhere else. Colony club is quite a historical Gem of Detroit that is presently being used as an event location in downtown Detroit in the Foxtown district. The building has a very Interesting past where it was originally built in 1927 as a women's club in Downtown Detroit and has changed hands and purpose numerous times over the past 100 years where it was used for multiple businesses, Detroit UAW headquarters, Detroit police academy, Super Bowl functions and of most recent note for events/dinners/wedding receptions. The building itself speaks of elegance and taste where it was renovated in recent past to accurately capture the essence of the 1920 time period architecture in Detroit. Key areas of note include a large grand entrance on the first floor of the building leading to elevators and a grand stair well that leads to the third floor event ballroom. Architectural details that make this beauty stand out include very tasteful black/white checkered marble floors, ornate painted wooden wall and ceiling details/trimwork throughout, two visually stunning grand balconies overlooking the ballroom and a magnificent large chandelier in the center of the ballroom. Overall the building is visually stunning and quite an architectural gem for Detroit. Regarding the event I was at (a Wedding), They had two bars set up at opposite ends of the large hallway outside the balcony that did a good job of servicing the 100 + people at this event without to much of a wait. The ballroom itself easily accommodated the wedding party with tables of six located opposite ends of the ballroom with "plenty" of room in the middle of the ballroom for a very large dance floor. You really couldn't ask for a better more comfortable setup for an event like this. The food at the event was prepared in the building and was solid to a little better than average wedding food in my opinion. I have never expected to get 5 Star food at an event like this and with that mindset I was generally happy with my food. Relative to staff, they were very friendly and helpful and did a great job of taking care of us during the dinner portion of the reception. Speaking only as a guest and not the person who wrote the check for the event, I was very impressed overall with the venue and management of the event and would love to return in the future. If you are in the downtown area and have an appreciation for beautiful time period architecture this building is a must see as you will not be disappointed. Five Stars...... read more

What a gorgeous venue! Located in bustling Foxtown Detroit, this historic venue would be great for a wedding. Sadly, my trip here was a celebration of the life of my "second mom." But we did it up right and celebrated her like she would have loved. The venue is gorgeous. We were in the 4th floor which is the petite ballroom. It holds up to 150 people with dinner and dancing. We were packed in a bit tightly, but nothing worse than most venues. Servers walked around offering delicious hors d'oeuvres. The bar was fully stocked. The bartender even made me an iced coffee with Bailey's! Our lunch was served buffet style, and was a very eclectic selection. This was done at the request of my best friend, as she chose a variety of her mother's favorite foods. There was a pasta bar, where they sauteed your topping right in front of you. Then there was a coney dog bar. We taught the our of town guests how to eat a Detroit style Coney the right way! They have had turkey with gravy and cranberries. For dessert they had quite a variety of sweet treats. A huge saunders chocolate bar was available for ice cream toppings, cookies, crepes, cream puffs! You name it! It was a beautiful experience and I was glad I got to check it out. The 3rd floor ballroom is much larger and can host up to 300 people. One of my favorite things though is that this is within walking distance to several hotels, including my favorite, The Aloft. Which is in walking distance to a crazy amount of magnificent restaurants and bars. The Q line is nearby as is the people mover, so guests can take transportation to their hotels as well. read more

Wow. We attended A wedding a few weeks ago here. It was exceptional! The service was elegant and beautiful. The reception room was over the top. The chandelier is captivating go say the least. Everything was absolutely incredible. We had steak and chicken it was so tender and yummy!! It was easy to get a drink they had a few bars available. Bathroom is on the second floor. Wonderful venue, friendly staff... until we walked out and the coat check lady asked my fiancé when her baby was due. She is NOT pregnant and struggles with body positivity. She ruined our night and made my fiancé cry. I can't believe someone nowadays would be so completely ignorant and ask someone that question. I will state again, every aspect of this venue was amazing but that one interaction completely destroyed our experience and ruined our night. My fiancé is an incredibly beautiful women and I am more offended than can be stated with words. What a shame. read more

5 stars for the building, decor, ambience, location. This place is a gem. Located next to the Fox Theatre, sharing its parking ramp. It's in the middle of Detroit's downtown action. The interior calls back to its days as a wealthy, women's club. The third floor ballroom where many events are held is full of gilt ceiling detail and fixtures. The bathrooms and lounge on the second floor are luxurious and relaxing when stepping away for a break from an event. The food here is good. Timing for large groups can be an issue, so it's not perfect, but it's well above the standard of other facilities. Bar service was excellent, quick, friendly. Table service was mixed. Servers seemed incredibly rushed, taking away items before folks were finished, and rushing. We saw lots of staff bumping into folks while exiting with trays of used dishes and cutlery. We also experienced a spectacular red wine spill when carrying a heavy tray with a full glass. The waitperson didn't stop, look back, or consider the wine that ended up on two guests. Maybe it wasn't noticed? I guess I expected the service to match the facility. Overall, I love the building and will happily attend events here to explore it more. However, I would be careful setting up an event here, making sure to know the facility's priorities, how it treats its staff, and what it expects of them during an event. read more

I had my wedding yesterday at the colony club and I would like to share my experience. At first I was a little nervous, because I had read from other reviews that the air conditioning was an issue and the food was not that good, thankfully, in my case that couldn't be further from the truth!!! I worked with Alexandra Wendland for the planning and Nikki Kamienski for event coordination and I couldn't be more happy with how things turned out! Our food was delicious (several guests complimented the food) and all the items were set up beautifully by Nikki and I never felt like I was not being taken care of! Nikki is an awesome wedding coordinator and is always willing to help; Alex is also great and everything on the contract was executed to perfection, ladies, you rock! My wedding size was about 91 people and I can honestly say it turned out perfect! read more

Came here for a wedding in Detroit and was blown away by the venue.. it's such a classical Detroit atmosphere. I would 100% have my wedding here, but it's for sure out of my price range! The wedding itself was in the grand ballroom and I think there were 3 other wedding venues within the club, but the grand was the best. I wish I took my photos but it's just a beautiful places. Parking is a hassle, but luckily my wedding invitation came with parking validation at the fox theatre. read more

I am just a little late in writing this review since our May wedding, however I had to make sure I got this in. Since I first ever saw pictures of the colony club through this website and watched the video tour, we knew this was our venue. We saw the venue in person and it sealed the deal! I cannot stress enough how incredible it was to celebrate our reception at an "inclusive" venue. Colony Club took care of our linens, chairs, setup, tear down, menu, drinks, everything. They had a day of coordinator for us who was also just fantastic. They worked so incredibly with us along our whole planning process and truly minimized our stress tenfold. We had to do so little additional decorating aside from centerpieces because the ballroom is absolutely stunning in itself. Our guests loved the history of the building and the beautiful touches. We received soo many compliments. The food was fantastic and that was one of the highest compliment items of our night. The servers and all the staff were lovely and polite and took care of all of our guests all night. I would choose colony club over and over again!! Beautiful, easy, and beyond incredible staff to work with. Easy parking for guests with parking passes, and amazing venue in the heart of Detroit. Thank you Colony Club! read more

I hear it's thee new SPOT for Yuppie's to tie the knot in Detroit. The buidling was beautiful. Very old (obviously) I was there to witness the nuptuials of an amazing couple of UofM Law school grads. The service was excellent. A woman named Tracy was assigned to the tables in our general area, and she was the most gracious person. The smile never left her face, even if she thought she might be out of view from anyone else, a smile was still present. I did mention it to the manager that evening as well. The food wasn't bad. I think it was mostly because I didn't exactly like the style chicken and beef that was served. The only thing that sucked was the temperature in the entire building. I get that it's old, and that it's summer....and muggy, but damn was it HOT in that place! We even asked about it and they said they had the air down to 55, but that because it was an old building it was hard to regulate... What evs.. Then why were the windows on the ground floor open? Get that shit under control. Another guest that was seated next to me made the comment that "Basically everyone at the wedding looked sweaty" and we did... All in all, not a bad venue. It was decorated beautifully, but I never know if that's to the credit of the establishment, or the wedding party. read more

I love the building, but was not pleased with the lack of parking. The food is good, but I felt there was a bit of an unfriendly, snide and uppity atmosphere with some of the employees. *There were some employees there that seemed VERY friendly; I just happened to have gotten someone that bordered on rude and snotty. Buyer Beware! Although the Colony Club is a first-class venue I will tell anyone that is planning an event there to make sure you get everything you want in writing and constantly remind your sales person of these requests. We specifically asked for two items, BOTH were spelled out in our contract and in our floor plan diagram and NEITHER one was done on our wedding night. Nicole the Managing Director said that it was OUR FAULT for not bringing it up with our senior sales manager (which we did numerous times). The event manager even agreed the night of the wedding that she was short staffed and couldn't do what was requested. So... This became OUR problem, not theirs. You will love the setting and the food but execution to simple request outside of their "standard labor guidelines" don't happen and then you get called a liar for asking for them. read more

To start, 13 of 16 bridal party members were trapped in the elevator in attempt to go from the ground floor to the third floor where the bridal suites were located. The elevator was locked shut on the ground floor. Colony club staff was unable to open the door themselves. I did not feel their sense of urgency in getting the elevator open. The groom took it upon himself to run over to the fire department to get more assistance. They quickly came with a pry bar and ladders. Eventually, the bride escaped the elevator via a hatch and ladder in the roof of the elevator. In total, the bridal party was trapped in the elevator for almost an hour. Our dinner was delayed by about 30 minutes throwing off the entire time line of the evening. We made special accommodations to get all of our pictures done before the church ceremony so we could enjoy cocktail hour with our guests. With A bill of over $42,000 ($7000 per hour), losing an hour is a tremendous loss. As you can imagine, being trapped in a full elevator was very traumatic to several of the wedding party members. Temperatures in the elevator were on the rise and it became difficult to breathe. Several were reduced to tears as they waited to be released. Multiple guests slipped in puddles of water located on the stairs between the bathroom at reception room. By the next morning one guest had major bruises on his ribs, back, and neck. Granted most guests had been drinking, but there should be some ensuring the staircase is safe for guests. Luckily it was a healthy young man rather than one of our elders. Had an elder slipped in the puddle, it would have caused traumatic injury or even death. The bride was served the Duo plate when we had signed up for the eggplant napoleon, however at this point she was too distraught by the ruined cocktail hour and running late reception to eat anyways. read more

Uncooked swordfish! Pretty place however the room hostess was not at all helpful when I brought the fact that 3 at our table had raw portions of their swordfish steaks to her attention. Suddenly the chef's error became my fault for not bringing it to her attention earlier. She wanted to argue but it was hard to argue with 3 pieces of red fish. Instead of trying to blame a guest for an error, apologize. Simple customer service 101. Maybe she was frazzled and took it out on me since I later learned that others attending the large wedding had undercooked fish. I simply asked her to do right by the bride and groom, meaning adjust their bill. As we were eating cake more entrees came out. We didn't want more food 30 minutes after eating--not what I asked for. Mistakes happen, people remember how you choose to deal with the errors. The in-your-face attitude I received made me wonder if they charged for those additional plates. They are too quick to take away drinks that people are still drinking--happened 2 times to us. Sat full drinks down to dance and they got cleared. Worse was when I was drinking a glass of wine and there were dirty plates around. They didn't pick up the plates but grabbed the glass that was right in front of me. I think they should hire or train some better service skills. read more

We came here for a friends wedding. They do not have parking though and we had to park in the structure around the corner we should not make me feel very safe for downtown Detroit at night. However the venue is absolutely incredible. You could hear the music great and it was perfect for a wedding set up. We even had appetizers in a different room before moving into the main venue. I remember that the food was pretty good. Hope we get invited to another wedding so we have the chance to come back. read more

We had our wedding at The Colony Club! The ballroom is 2 stories with a mezzanine that is amazing! The original architecture has not been touched other than to be restored! This historical building dates back to the 1920's where one of the original woman's social club existed! The food is amazing, the service is beyond anyones expectations, and if you think you may want to have your wedding here, you may want to reserve ahead because they are booked atleast one year out. We were extremely pleased with them and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone looking to have an event from 100 - 300 people. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Colony Club. First off it's BEAUTIFUL like in a Romeo and Juliet way! Just Gorgeous! and Second we had the best experience working with Banquet Manager Bertha. How someone can be fun, organized and calm at the same time is beyond me but she does it all. She took care of every need we had and made us smile through out it all. Bertha made us feel like we were the best people she ever dealt with and we definitely felt that way about her! The parking was at the Fox Parking lot which was not as simple because you need to go around to get back to your car. But EVERYTHING else was fantastic. The food was excellent and hot. The only word to describe the Colony Club is to use my favorite urban term; 'THAT'S WATS UP!'. I experienced the best venue Detroit (or any other city for that matter) has to offer. Yes I said any other city; Chicago, New York, D.C., L.A., who ever! I partied at the multi-story Colony Club on August 23. I was there on official business. To raise money for the Charles H. Wright Museum. Raise money and kick it? Doesn't get any better. They offer valet, spacious lounge areas, clean restrooms, huge dance floors and the best staff in the business. If you ever have the opportunity to attend an event at the Colony Club I suggest you do. This venue is usually occupied for ticketed events. It is so worth the experience no matter the cost. read more

Overpriced food that was more like shoe leather. Don't pick the steak, whatever you do!! We couldn't even tell what the vegetable was on our plates....broccoli?? palm tree?? Overdone for sure. Saw a waiter/busser scraping dishes onto the tray as he was clearing tables after dinner, then turned around and started moving plates of wedding cake from one place to another, without washing his hands or putting on gloves. Disgusting. Table completely cleared immediately after dinner, including water glasses. Said there would be "water service" out in the hall. There was, with no ice and in plastic cups, what a waste, especially for the host, who surely had to pay for those cups. Place is pretty, but it does not make up for the fact that the food was terrible and the service not much better than that. read more

Was very impressed. The wait staff was outstanding. The food was delicious. We were on the 4th floor. The room was broken up into 3 rooms. The dance floor in one and tables in the other. You couldn't see the dance floor from the tables and that was disappointing as after the food was finished you had to stand (which my wife can't) to see the cutting of the cake and the dancing. The bartenders were pretty heavy handed with the pours which just costs the hosts more $$. They were pretty aggressive picking up 1/2 full drink glasses when people were up dancing. The rest rooms were on the 2nd floor which you go to by the elevator. It was a very elegant venue and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. read more
