This is a sign on the wall as you come into the practice. Photo taken August 4, 2023.

This Pariser Dematology location is near Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. This is not my usual location as I am in Virginia Beach, so my usual location is the one on Perimeter Pkwy with Melissa Alcox. This Norfolk location appears to be the hub for this practice as a whole. My visit here was on August 4, 2023. After having my annual skin exam at my regular location, I had a cyst on the side of my head that needed to be removed, even though it was benign. It was inflaming the lymph nodes and causing the ongoing headache. I arrived here around 1 pm for my 1:30 appointment for the surgery. It took a while to be called back. It wasn't until closer to 2 pm until they called me back. They must have really been running late that day. It was a little frustrating at first to see pretty much everyone who came in after me already being seen and leaving afterwards. Once I was called back, I went into an exam room where the surgery would take place. It was one of the assistants of the doctor that brought me back. We went over the health history and such. After all of that was done, the area of the surgery was numbed. After giving time for the numbing agent to take effect, Dr. Lawrence Chang came in to do the procedure. Within a minute or two, he was done and the cease and de-cyst order was carried out. After that, the post-op instructions were given and to contact them if any issues arise. No return appointment was needed as the staples would disintegrate on their own when healed. In the end, after a few weeks, that was the case and had no complications during that healing process. Overall, I had a really good experience here. The overall process was quick and easy. The procedure itself didn't take as long as I was waiting in the waiting area between my appointment time and then coming back though. The staff were all friendly and caring. In the end, I would come back to this location if needed for a procedure that can't be done at my usual location in Virginia Beach.

This place is clean, normally a short wait, super knowledgeable medically trained staff, and pleasant to get checked out. I see one of the PA's (Tina Watkins), and I think she is so great- she has a cool & calm demeanor and never talks "over my head" about my healthcare. She's removed questionable moles from my skin and suggests I go out for other more risky removals, which I appreciate her boundaries. Highly recommend if you're looking for a new spot to get your skin checked out!

Going to the doctorisn't what most would categorize as "fun". Especially if you have to talk about uncomfortable subjects. I'm just gonna put it out there: I had the worse case of chapped lips in the history of chapped lips lol. It had been going on for YEARS. I tried every single product known to man. Visited "another" dermatologist a few years back just to be rudely told that I'm just "getting older and the body changes" and that I basically just had to accept it. Once I started changing my eating habits and my overall lifestyle, I switched to an osteopathic doctor and she referred me to this office about deez ol' lips lol The office was easy to find, clean and modern, and the staff was over-the-top friendly!!! They efficiently took my info but with smiles and pleasant conversation! But the kicker was Dr. Belote! She was very attentive to my concerns and although she didn't disagree with what the "other" dermatologist stated, she delivered the message with more compassion, more from a "let's be aware" place versus "oh well deal with it" standpoint. Her calm demeanor and how simple she made the solution sound, I'll be honest, I was skeptical. (Thus why I wanted 3 months to make this review) But much to my surprise, her plan worked and I have not had chapped lips ONE DAY since I started!! I'm still in shock To go for years with an issue that made me feel like it was hopeless, to have it turn around in just 2 weeks (AND LASTED!!) seemed like a miracle. So I'm here to say..... check out Pariser Dermatology y'all! They are the TRUTH on both the aspects of capability and service! Total BB Referral!!

Massive bald spot shaved into my head for a small excision. Total hatchet job and no concern for aesthetics.

When I suggested that there was no harm in passing this important info to the lab doing the biopsy, the first front desk clerk gasped audibly in frustration and passed the phone to her co-worker, to back her up on telling me that they would not give a message to the doctor or nurse. I kept a very kind and cooperative tone, the whole time. They were condescending in their tone as they refused to deliver a medically important message. I just can't believe the way they took on the role of medical professionals. They could have simply delivered my message.

Jasim lied about a waiting list that does not exists. When I asked her about it, she said Sorry and walked off. Jasim told me the follow up to have my skin tags removed was $200. The receptionist said it was $235. Jasim was rude, curt and unhelpful. She said she would freeze 3 skin tags for me right then. According to the actual Dr. at another practice I went to, all she accomplished was giving me frostbite like burns on my skin. This place is a horror, and Rua Jasim is an entitled, liar with no bedside manner. EDIT: Now after I already paid the co-pay at the time of the office visit, I get a bill in the mail stating I owe another office co-pay because we discussed more than one topic at the office visit. I've been trying to get on Accutane since November 2022 and still not on it. There has been a lack of communication and follow through with this office. Additionally, the last 3 appointments I've had started 15-20 min late. I purposely make these appointments early in the morning because I'm a working woman, but they don't seem to have a sense of time in this office. They also lied to me and said they sent me to get blood work "by mistake" -- I disagree with this statement bc they knew I had to get blood work to start Accutane, they simply failed to put me on the waitlist. At my last appointment, I told them I had questions about Accutane. They forgot that I needed to get counseled before getting on this. I waited in there for 5 minutes and started walking out bc I needed to get to work. The staff was chatting in the hallway, and stopped me to say "oh but wait! Your counsel" and I said "i know but I have to go to work!" So I was directed to go back into the room and thankfully someone came in right away. The doc is always playing "cool guy" which might be appropriate when playing golf or on your boat but not when you're a doctor. He always seems rushed and doesn't make room for patients to ask question. Listen, I understand the world is short-staffed and the medical world is struggling. It's just been several months and numerous encounters where I feel disrespected, and I can't tolerate that.

It may actually be considered a part of the campus since the Norfolk General complex has been completely "built out" on the original side. The Fort Norfolk location is quite easy to access from most areas in the Southside. Having nothing to do with the building but appealing to my love for history, the area is named for the neighborhood's fully restored War of 1812 era original fort that's still sits overlooking the Elizabeth River as it enters the Harbor. Fort Norfolk protected the Norfolk side with Fort Nelson protecting the Portsmouth side. The latter sat on the current site of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Sadly, that fort no longer remains, History lesson completed. This is a quite convenient building for those of us who can't walk long distances from parking areas to medical building entrances. The attached parking garage is free if your ticket is validated at the medical practice you are visiting. On each level there are a few Handicapped spaces directly adjacent to the glass enclosed elevator entrances. Seating is available in that area. I've never had a problem finding a space in the parking garage, which offers a picturesque view of the Elizabeth River. The building is filled with medical practices & support facilities. Most offices that I've seen are Sentara practices, I've had wonderful care at Sentara Cardiology Specialists, Sentara Advanced Imaging Center & Sentara Sleep Center. This Medical Center is quite convenient & affords easy access to both parking and elevators. I would highly recommend choosing a medical practice located in this Fort Norfolk Center.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Call us to change or cancel." Awesome. So I call this office, but their scheduling department is a call service who didn't know what was going on. It is nearly impossible to get ahold of someone in the actual office. I left a message on a machine at the actual clinic, a person eventually called back but I was in a meeting at work so couldn't answer. But they left a message with their extension to dial to reach them directly. Sounds good, right? Except I called 6 times over the rest of the day (including once maybe 5 minutes after they called me) and they never answered, and the "extension" numbers don't have a voicemail. The next day the Hampton office calls and again I don't answer because I was busy, and I get another extension that no one ever answers. Nice. But they also call my husband, and he does answer! Turns out, they had screwed up their doctor's schedule and decided to reschedule all of the patients to Hampton instead of the doctor to VA Beach, I guess. If we wanted to reschedule, it would be months of wait, again. Awesome. Anyway, despite him saying "we" would like to cancel, they only canceled his appointment. I guess they thought he was using the royal "we". So I called and left a message on their clinic's answering machine that I would like to cancel... and I'm still getting text messages this morning about my appointment in Hampton. My 12-year-old daughter developed a rapidly spreading skin condition over the course of a week. What began on her legs had spread to her arms and face, and we still did not know whether it was fungal, viral, contagious, or something more serious. After spending four hours in the ER with little help beyond an over-the-counter cream recommendation and instructions to see a dermatologist, we began calling every dermatology office we could find. Because of the urgency of the situation, I brought my daughter to Pariser Dermatology in person hoping someone could at least assess whether she needed immediate attention. The receptionist was not particularly sympathetic, and we were told the earliest available appointment was June 30. What was most frustrating was that no provider was willing to briefly look at my daughter, despite her being physically present in the waiting room with visible lesions that were actively spreading. I was not asking for a full appointment or diagnosis on the spot just a quick assessment of whether the situation warranted more urgent care. Fortunately, I then went to Forefront Dermatology in Chesapeake. Despite being fully booked and double-booked that today, they found a way to fit my daughter into their schedule that afternoon. Their willingness to help in what felt like an urgent situation stood in stark contrast to the experience we had elsewhere. I understand that medical offices have scheduling limitations and policies. However, when a child presents with a rapidly worsening and unexplained skin condition, I would hope for a greater degree of compassion, flexibility, and clinical judgment. Based on this experience, I would either steer clear Parsier of or switch dermatology providers.
