Park Community Church Near North has been my church home for almost three years. I've been amazed by the loving community. If I miss a Sunday, I feel like something is missing, like I haven't been home in a while. When I was going through intense grief, the church was the body of Christ that came around me, prayed for me, took care of me and supported me in every way a church in the Bible was meant to be like. I am forever grateful they got me through that traumatic time. During a time of confusion within the church, the elders took time to meet people, answer questions, was transparent and vulnerable. It helped me build trust with them and brought me closer to God in those times. Their service involve worship, and sermons that are based on reading chapters from scripture. We go through books of the Bible. Right now we are reading the book of Luke and it will take us two years to complete it. The pastors and elders are so friendly, and are available to you. They try to meet everyone, but it's also welcomed for you to introduce yourself to them. There are many deacons at the end of service who are available to take prayer requests and will pray for you on the spot. There are also many resources available for new believers and many different ministries: Alpha, Loop Kids Ministries, small groups, Global Ministries, discipleship classes, Three Twelve: ministry for people in their 20's and 30's, retreats, evangelizing, and so much more. Every church is not perfect and will have their flaws. It's okay to go church hopping for a while, but this church is worth checking out, and if you have any questions, go to guest services or go up to a church leader. You are welcome here! :) read more

Park Community Church is fantastic. The Word of God resonates from it's Pastors and its congregation. The staff are very loving and welcoming and they will always give you Biblical truth. I left Park Community Church years ago because I was use to "hellfire" preaching, and i found a church at a closer location, but God showed me, that He can deliver His message through men of God that aren't Baptist style ministers as well. LOL VENUE -- floor plan is the same as Signature Theater in NYC. Sanctuary on 3rd Floor. Coffee Shop on 2. Parking on 1st. How I dread those stairs like a townhouse. STAGE -- Theater setup. The cross blends in the background as it has the same texture and material. I don't understand the point of the distracting linear white bright light as a pyramid. I am waiting for the fluorescent lighting to blink. Bad set design. AUDIO -- 11 am service is better than 5 pm. Sound Engineers must have thought that attending Church is a rock concert. Each sides has 3 speakers and one Central. When you sit by the side(s) near Stage, one side of your ear will be ringing. There is no point in having a vocalist if you can't hear their voices. DRUMS -- NO plexiglass as drum shield. Rock on! PASTORS -- when do the 2 regular Pastors preach? Jason (from Logan Square) is better than Kensen (from Bridgeport) as he had a one line conclusion. Did the Pastors flunk Moody Bible Institute? White Noise Sermon as they talk in endless paragraphs without commas, periods, or double spacing. It was funny that Jason had to define Gentiles - don't use the word then. Alienating sermon uses these words: Euphemism, Juxtaposition, Gentile Issue, Sensualities, Futility of the Mind, Behavior is symptomatic. The Sermon is now an intellectual book with NO sales. Highly repetitive as Pastors are unable to convey clear and concise message. Confused? SONGS AND HYMNS -- None. It's Modern Contemporary lyrics that nobody sings with. Sad. If I could give zero stars to this pyramid scheme of a church I would. The first five to ten minutes is a lecture on giving more money to the church, how to give more money to the church, and finally an offering just to make sure that they have received your money. (There is a vague claim that they are doing some 2020 initiative, but not all that this initiative entails.) This is followed by two or three songs that are sang by people who need the spotlight in order to feel validated. Then it is on to a sermon where the pastor breaks down a teaching line by line, explaining its historical context and throwing in some personal story to make it seem more personable and emotionally grabbing. One more song and you are out of the service. This is a church that has no idea how to be a church. They have sacrificed the wellbeing of those involved with it in order to swell its membership. I'm a neighbor by this church and they treat the neighborhood like a garbage dump. There is trash all around their building they they have failed to clean for months. I watched a diaper slowly disinagrate over the summer. Currently there is a tire, glass liquor bottles and general rubish that has been on the sidewalk for weeks in plain view of their security cameras. Love thi neighbor they clearly do not. read more

Since I don't really go in for hyper-organised religion these days, I'm not into churches and things like the Evangelical Association of America (shudder). I feel I need to give back to the yelp.com community since I found Park on yelp almost 2 years ago. I was trying to find a church with a little more "life" than the others I had been trying all around the city. I had been to at least 15 others before finding Park...and I never left. They have a lot of cool ways to get plugged in - since its always intimidating to go to a new place (if you just moved, just started going back to church, or have never stepped foot in a church) they have people greeting at all doors so you know which way to go in. There is a Cafe with tables and a coffeeshop on the 2nd floor, third floor is where service is. Since I didn't know anyone, I went to a real quick session after service (they do it every week, every service) called Park 101 for about 10 minutes to learn a bit more and meet a few newbies.I think I love most is the endless ways to get involved. There is group called Alpha which is a great way to brush up on the basics + is a safe place to ask all the crazy questions I wanted to ask about Christianity. They also have tons of volunteer activities so you can meet people. The services are about 1 1/2 hours long and are very energetic which I like. They have different bands and singing groups that sing a lot of contemporary songs. And last but not least...since I am gluten free...they have gf communion read more

My husband and I started to attend Park at the beginning of this past year. The fellowship, welcoming environment, and the teachings have helped us to feel right at home. There are service on Saturday night & multiple on Sunday's. The onsite cafe is great to grab a cup of coffee, tea, latte, etc. before heading up to service. I have gone to a couple of different churches around the city and found that this is one that I am going to try and settle at for a bit. I really enjoy the energy that it brings forth without being TOO much in your face. I am not a happy camper in the mornings....so too much "RISE AND SHINE" will get you a stern look. However, I can say to help combat that urge, they do have a Coffee shop so that I can get some of God's Gift of Caffeine. There are fellowship areas and good vibe all around. Just heard a sermon at Park Community Church on Ephesians 4 about speaking what is truthful, and having the strength to stand up against people who make statements that are untrue and hurtful. Prior to listening to the sermon on live stream, I came across a highly negative, unnecessary, and untrue review of a service at Park by a fellow Yelper. So I am addressing that individual here: Dear Yelper, I can certainly understand your sentiment that, for whatever reason, the service you attended didn't "do it" for you. You criticized the building layout, the style of music performed, the set design, the audio mixing, the coffee shop (not sure if you approved or disapproved of the coffee; it wasn't clear), and the pastors' speech patterns and delivery. Your were highly offended by most of what you experienced that ONE TIME you graced my longtime church with your ever-so-discerning presence. I feel a need to inform you that perhaps you don't really have a deep understanding of the gospel, and that may be why you felt a need to broadcast your displeasure with some very superficial aspects of a church service to the world. If you did understand the gospel you wouldn't have needed to write a review like that.. For the record, Park Community Church has been my church home for the past 20 years. It is a contemporary city church with a modern style. That is one of the things that appealed to me initially. But most importantly, it is the place where I go to learn about Jesus and grow spiritually mature. It is a lifelong process! Since my last review of Park, we have moved into the Crosby location for the 9am, 11am, and 530pm services. The Lincoln Park campus is still at Francis Parker at 10am. The new building is amazingly beautiful but the pastors will be the first to tell you "the building is not the 'church' the people who attend are the 'church'" which I really appreciate-a building shouldn't define you. There has been some turnover of Worship leaders, but other than that, it's still the same Park I wrote about before. Also...if you have decided to turn your life over to God I recommend checking out Park's baptism class. They do a great job of explaining the process and hold a beautiful mass-baptism ceremony every summer at sunrise on the lake. read more

Yeah, lot of 20-something singles at Park, but Park is exploding with 30-somethings+, and families, as well. I've been attending Park since I was a singleton, met my husband there and now have transitioned into the family crowd. I've been amazed at the growth and change in Park - it is tough to serve the needs of everyone and while not perfect, I have sensed that Park truly has a heart for people. I know it is easy to get lost in the crowd (I felt that way at first) but if a newbie is able to reach out even once, I think they will find that it isn't that tough to get engaged and involved. And as someone else mentioned, the Pastors preach from a very Biblical basis - it is a balance of caring for people, but speaking the truth in love, as well. Park has been an "itinerant" church for almost 20 years now, which is tough to do with the weekly attendance at over 1,000 now, I think. But in the next month or two, Park will be moving into their new building on Crosby. Yeah! read more

The church has a good combination of local and global ministry outreach. I attend the Near North campus and we have services on Saturday at 5 PM and on Sunday at 9 AM, 11 AM and 5:30 PM. read more

They have a wonderful kids ministry and they will help walk alongside your family in the city. They put their actions where their words are and get involved in so many aspects of the community. Park is a church that is totally welcoming and non-threatening -- a place to spend an hour or so on Sunday hearing some good music and a great message, but also a place where your life can be changed in wonderful, powerful ways -- where you can experience real hope and become part of a movement that is impacting the city and the world. One reviewer said it's a church for those in their 20's, but while that's a strong part of the demographic, it's really only true at the 5:30 PM Sunday service -- the morning services draw a diverse crowd that skews towards those in their 20's and 30's but includes all ages (a thriving children's ministry with a nursery and Sunday School classes is provided for the many families that attend). However, there's no doubt that Park has a youthful, energetic vibe -- art, music, drama, dance, and multimedia are embraced as ways to express the mystery of God's goodness and the powerful messages of hope, love, and grace found in the Bible. Yes, this is a Bible-based, Christian church, but it's a place where you are encouraged to be yourself and ask the tough questions -- not to fall in line with a fundamentalist lifestyle or be forced to present your political affiliations at the door. You might be challenged by some of the messages, but they're intended to be both spiritually and intellectually challenging to stimulate thought and growth, with the hope of leading you to a rich and life-affirming relationship with a God that knows you better, and loves you more, than you have ever thought possible. When I started coming (read: being dragged) to Park I was certainly not a Christian, and hearing about anything that was "Bible-based" made me want to shudder. But I slowly learned that Park is what Christianity is supposed to be about -- it's not at all about condemnation, intolerance, or a legalistic view of morality. It's a place where everyone knows they are just as broken, imperfect, and loaded with spritiual and emotional baggage as the person next to them. And as we sit there together, we are pointed toward the Grace that (when we allow God and others to walk with us through the process), can and will transorm us into the people that we never imagined we could be. Park has been a "church on the move" meeting at various rented/borrowed locations on the North Side for 20 years, but has an aweome new church building opening this spring! It's located in a huge, completely overhauled storage warehouse at the corner of Oak & Crosby streets -- at the crossroads of the rapidly changing and economically, socially, and culturally diverse "Parkside" neighborhood (formerly known as Cabrini-Green). Meanwhile, they plan to continue to hold a "satellite service" at one of their former locations, Francis Parker H.S. in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, where a lot of the membership resides. The growth (and actually having a building to call their own) has been an incredible blessing, but I still don't think it feels like a "megachurch", or ever will. I like that the size (maybe a little more than 1,000 people total, spread across 3 services each Sunday) allows you to sit in the back and stay anonymous if that's all your up for, but also accomodates a wonderfully diverse array of volunteer opportunities, educational classes, Bible study groups, and social events so that you can get plugged into the area that fits you best as soon as you're ready. I am going to this church for 1.5 years. I have a teen. She loves the youth groups. My husband loves it there. I do no like that the sanctuary is so dark. Not enough lights for me but i got used to it. I love the music, modern but very Biblical. I love the building!!!! So artistic. Fills my soul to walk there. The preachers are wonderful and the never ask for money in a nasty way. Parking is great if you are on time. Free. If late you have to look for street parking. read more

I absolutely love Park Community Church, this is home and family to me. I have been attending for a little over a year and have been able to get plugged into a small group and involved with serving/volunteering. Through Park, I have grown in my faith, made an amazing community of believers I consider family, I have been able to impact the city of Chicago through after-school tutoring, and experience global ministry through a cross-cultural short-term trip. I've been to Park a few times and it's a very nice church. Its a very new church (or has that new Church smell) which is very nice. The people are very pleasant and the sermon is good. It's a little small for me as I like the Mega church style with 1000's of people but it's a good church size with maybe 300+ people. I can only comment on the Saturday service. It's a beautiful venue and everyone that works here or volunteers here is super friendly. Since it was my first time I was pretty lost, but there was always someone there to show me in the right direction. I imagine this service was smaller and more intimate than Sundays services. It was held in a decent sized room with a small stage. The music and messages were modern and relatable to a young adult. The crowd was friendly and I liked the vibe. I moved to the Chicago area 2 yrs ago, and this has become my family. The teaching is out of the Bible, and there's a lot of down-to-earth people here. I was surprised how welcomed I felt on the first day I was here, and the way people here love God, each other, and the community. The mission statement is "To know God and make Him known." In the past i've had many mixed experiences in the past with religion, but this is not a place where I feel judged or pressured to measure up to a certain standard. But at the same time, as I've grown in my relationship with Jesus with the people here, I've still seen genuine change in my own life without feeling like I need to put on a front. The majority of people are between 20-45 years old. The diversity is growing to reflect the diverse community more and more. Come, grab a cup of coffee, and get to know some of the people here. They can't stand the traditional Catholic services that I drag them to. This church has a young crowd and delivers the message in modern terms. It was a long service but so enjoyable. It is a very good church. Solid teaching, important being a Moody Student, and it is great worship. My only issue, which is a small one is that you almost dont feel like your at a church due to the size, you get lost in the crowd. Although that can be solved in small groups, the problem for me is that its a bunch of Moody Kids in the college small group. So instead of interacting with the church, i end up with a bunch of moody kids that i see during the week. read more
