If you are anything like me, you've spent majority of your life trying to avoid church, the topic of church, religion, God, Jesus, etc. at all costs. Why? Because it's too uncomfortable and too personal of a topic to talk about over pizza. Why? Because most people have had a BAD experience in church. The services are too long, too boring, too irrelevant, the people are weird, my lifestyle doesn't fit, I don't dress correctly to be welcomed, they do weird things, they only want my money, they only want to tell you what you're doing wrong, it's clicky, I don't understand the things they talk about anyway, I went out last night so they must think I belong in hell. I've felt all of those things and more for majority of my life. Until I rocked up to People Church. I was walking through Wicker Park when I saw a People Church poster wheat-pasted in an alleyway. Then I went on the instagram to see if it was real. Then I mustered up the energy to actually go check out a service. It was so good, that I didn't just go to one that day, I went to two. The first service was in wicker park in the morning. The second service was at a nightclub downtown at night. Both were so dope. I felt so comfortable. It's weird to say this about church, but that same feeling i get when i go out to a restaurant, or to a bbq, or a lounge, or a bar- that's what it felt like walking into people church... In this context: I met people- who I could see myself being friends with. We talked about real things. It was FUN. All those things I've ever felt towards church- it was opposite. The service almost felt too short (I think it was an hour and 15 minutes). The pastor was hilarious and preached a message that was SO relevant & totally a message that I could apply to my Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. The people were not weird AT all. In fact I found them way more entertaining, friendly, down-to-earth, honest, and real than most of my friends. I met tons of people who's lifestyle was A-Z: restaurant managers, bartenders, construction workers, stay at home dads, teachers, professional actors, models, djs, you name it. Needless to say- I "fit in". Aside from all the "feelings" I felt towards my experience, most importantly- I EXPERIENCED GOD LIKE NEVER BEFORE. I have always believed in God, but I didn't realize we still have access to him today in a way that can shift the things that we aren't satisfied with in our lives. I would say I enjoy my life, but there's a lot that I'm not satisfied with. I'm so glad I encountered People Church. It gave me an answer, and a hope that there's more for me out there. I feel more ignited, empowered, and passionate than ever before. The only thing I regret about my experience here is not stepping foot in this door sooner. All that being said- COME CHECK IT OUT. This church is a game changer. My first visit was in October of 2013 and something stuck that I couldn't help myself from coming back. The vibe there is welcoming as well as the people. The people there show that they care and are all about relationship building. Seriously, they care so much about people that I'm in awe. They treat you like family and love is shown all around the instant you walk in. How could you not love that?! They go as far as having People Groups which are interest based. Some include: biking, cooking, running, and the list goes on. Honestly, this church sticks by its name and makes it all about the people. It's not your cookie cutter type of church. It's raw. Real. The pastors are involved in your life and not in a stalkish way, more of like "hey, lets do life together." They have people over their own home and go as far as having dinner parties, which are amazing to connect and to get to know everyone. There's no I'm better than you type of vibe and everyone treats one another equally. You laugh, cry, sing in this church and overwhelm yourself (in a good way) with passion to an extreme that you've never experienced before. Try it, it will be the BIGGEST game changer of your life. read more

If you're anything like me, you expect all churches to be the same - quiet, false sense of community, boring, corny, etc. Not this place! I started coming to People in June 2014, so just over a year ago. To say my life has changed would be an understatement. I was never one to get involved in a church and volunteer, to give people a chance to get close or to be in a position that I could finally say - I have found my forever church. On my first Sunday here, I walked in and was immediately greeted by a smiling happy face. We talked the whole time up until service started. She was so genuine and remembered my name (sounds silly, I know, but it meant a lot to me). She even called me that week to see how I was doing - nothing I had ever experienced at a church. Now, a year later, I'm part of such a unique and amazing community of people who live out life's ups and downs WITH me, not from a distance. I don't know what I would do without the friends I made here. Not to mention the amazing word brought by our Pastors. Chris and Audrey are one of a kind and anyone who meets them is changed forever. I really loved this church. It offered me something so special. Pastor Chris Carmona is truly gifted with his voice and ability to communicate to everyone in different way via the same sermon. However, a friend recently brought to my attention that Pastor Audrey (the wife of Chris) is a trump supporter. She follows him on Instagram and likes some of his most disgusting posts. Hatred and bigotry are not things I can stand by. As one of few Black people at the church, it makes me question if I'm even seen as a human being. And with the bulk of the church being Latinx, I don't see how others can stand for it either. Racism and hate and violence and ignorance are not ok and are not things I can have in my pastors or home church. I regret the money I tithed. I regret being spiritually vulnerable here. Devastating news. I stopped going for week when I found out bc I couldn't bare going back. I will be trying a new church today. Shame on Audrey, the mother of latine kids. The self hate and internalized racism is real. Chris himself is an immigrant. How can they support trump? So sad read more

When I was looking for a church in Chicago, I couldn't really put words to what I was looking for all I knew was that when I found the church for me, it would feel like home. From the moment, I stepped onto the sidewalk and made my way towards the doors of People Church, I was greeted with high fives and open arms and it felt like my very own homecoming parade. Was I nervous? Of course, but every single encounter was so genuine that my guard slowly started to fall and I felt at ease. People Church has a unique presence of God where no matter who you're talking to, worshipping alongside or serving with, you feel like you've known them your whole life. At People Church, there's community, a sense of Home, an amazing word and those WORSHIP SETS are like none other. There's no place like People Church and to me, it's HOME! read more

I first stumbled upon People through a google search but when I stumbled through the doors is when i knew it was home. I was welcomed with such warmth and care by two sweet girls, Laurel and Pam! They were eager to get to know my story and how I ended up in Chicago. Friendliest place ever with such heart behind everything that goes on. Pastor Chris and Audrey are a power couple! They lead People Church together like no other, you can tell that they live what they preach and its just in them. I've gotten a chance to have a few dinners with them and they are the most down-to-earth couple. You won't leave them without gaining new insight or just having great laughs! It's hard to put into words the impact that this place has had on me personally and my life as a whole. I have been attending since the very first service over 5 years ago, and I have not missed a service since. I didn't really grow up in church, but there was something about the heart of this church that kept me there. I have never felt so at home, so loved, so believed in, so challenged, or so invested into. The PEOPLE are incredible. The worship is electric. The message is empowering. The vision is world-changing. And the pastors are SO loving and care so much about each individual. I've been attending People Church for about 3 years now! Before I came here, I had been in church but not fully experienced full relationship with Jesus. I had a feeling in my heart that I was made for more but I didn't know what was missing. People Church literally changed my life. I got plugged into a grow group, I serve on the Creative Team, and I've met the best friends of my life here. The culture is kind and inviting (as are all the people) -- it's literally all about bringing people to Jesus and Jesus to people. 5 years ago I was looking for a church so I Googled "Cool church near me" I clicked on the first two links that popped up, and within the first couple of seconds looking at People Churches website, I had to check it out. I walked in and immediately was met with friendly faces and connection. I felt like it was Home immediately. I never felt the need to even check out any other church once I walked through the doors. I walked into People Church in 2016, and I have never looked back. This House is an incredible place. It is full of rich community and a passionate love for the Lord. I attended People for the first time a little over a year ago expecting just to find a church to go to on Sundays after I moved to Chicago. I had no idea how life-changing this place was going to be, the culture is genuine and raw - it just makes you want to be a part of it. Pastor Chris is from Australia and Pastor Audrey grew up in Chicago, they both attended Hillsong Bible College, and are some of the most amazing people I've ever met. I LOVE THIS PLACE! The praise and worship feels like a concert, and the church is so passionate. Senior Pastors Chris and Audrey are very raw and bring amazing words. This place is a scam. They use attractive branding to draw people in but the congregation is extremely transient and the leaders are borderline abusive towards their volunteers. They charge interns $1500 to basically be free babysitters and maids for the pastors. They've had leaders that use blackface and are avid Trump supporters. If none of that matters to you, enjoy! This church has made Chicago "home". After living here for two years and attending People Church for that long, I can honestly say that the community of people has made me feel welcomed and the experience on a Sunday is unlike any other!! Best Church I've ever been too. Growing up in church really turned me off to the whole idea. I wanted nothing to do with it. I can honestly say this place has changed my perspective completely.
