Notoriously rude receptionists. Always running late. Nurses and female doctor are fantastic, others(i won't name) no so much.

A well run, friendly practice which makes visiting the doctor a more pleasant experience…read more The Range Medical Centre is conveniently located on Withington Road, and is easy to access from Chorlton, Hulme or Whalley Range via bus. The reception and admin staff are polite and courteous, making efforts to accommodate your appointment and work around your schedule, often calling you back if a more convenient slot becomes available. They are very professional and maintain patient confidentiality, and speak about patients respectfully when talking to each other (which I have seen reception staff fail to do in so many other practices). The waiting rooms are clean and comfortable, displaying useful information and calling you to the surgery rooms via a large screen. There is even an electronic check-in desk where you can sign in for your appointment when the reception desk is very busy. All of the doctors and practice nurses I have seen have been professional and caring, and I would recommend this surgery to anyone living in the catchment area.
I was just at The Hollies this morning. It's been my NHS Surgery for nearly two years now, and…read moretoday was my first slightly negative experience with it. Not being a morning person, I still had to jump at the chance of being offered an appointment within two days of ringing up -- albeit at 8:45am. (Inner monologue: "Oh dear god, what do the hands of a clock look like that early?") Unfortunately, the receptionist had made a mistake, and didn't have a record of my appointment. I was offered an appointment for tomorrow, which I accepted. The GPs/doctors are all very friendly, with fine bedside manner. They often spend more than the typical doctor's two minutes listening to symptoms and recommending treatments. Though I'm not a hypochondriac (honestly, I don't own a single thermometer), I've been to the Surgery about half a dozen times in the past two years. I've always been seen straight away, with less than a five minute wait. The receptionists are all unfailingly polite and helpful -- not something most patients associate with the NHS! The Surgery itself is a bit dingy, and the building is dated. Unfortunately, there is no parking outside, and the only options are very poor street parking or dishing out £2 for the car park across the street. All in all, if one is sick, it's not a terrible place to end up.

Have never had a problem getting an appointment - they offer a triage service between 8-9.30am, if you call, you get called back by a GP who assesses you and makes an appointment accordingly. Non-urgent appointments can be made up to 2 weeks in advance. All doctors offer high standard of care, especially Dr George, who has seen my children a few times and is always very patient. Midwife is wonderful. Building is new and clean, as are the consultation rooms. Run training courses and health promotion courses from time to time. Only downside is car park is far too small.
Wilson St surgery has evolved a lot in the past few years. It is now a huge place with lots going…read moreon. There are about 10 different doctors practising at Wilson st but there is a huge turnover - so much so that you could actually never see the same doctor twice. They now run an appointments system whereby you have to ring as early as you can in the morning to guarantee getting an appointment that day but if there aren't any appointments left you have to ring again tomorrow and keep ringing until you can get in. This can be really difficult if you are working or if you can only get out to the surgery at certain times. I think that they have more patients than they can cope with these days. As an asthmatic I must see the nurse regularly but I haven't been able to see her in 2 years. Also I have never seen the same Nurse twice either which means there is no consistency and they have to learn all your history on meeting you once. There are 6 rooms downstairs with a large waiting room and small kids play area. It is quite clean and comfortable and warm. Then you have 2 flights of stairs up to the other rooms and a much smaller waiting area that gets filled very quickly. It does get very hot in the upstairs waiting area too. There isn't a kids play area as such but there is one of those plastic wendy houses that the kids can play in. That has been there about 10 years. I think the main reason they get so busy is that they are the main practice for Derby Uni students.

Wow. This place is the worst GP's I've ever had but then I feel like I'd not get any better…read moreelsewhere. Problems? - They share the 4 doctors with multiple practices. This means that you can never see the doctor you want to see because they are always out of office. This isn't a problem if you just need to see someone. If you are having a specialist send paperwork to a doctor to process to arrange a consultant to arrange to write to another specialist to ACTUALLY GET THINGS DONE then this is beyond worthless. Your doctor will be unavailable and unworkable at all times. Any time you want to see them they will be out of office or emergencies only. It is actually worth it for a laugh though because you can go through the NHS standards agency and start making formal issues and complains of everything which means eventually you get better service than you would usually get but really their current system is slightly broken and needs looking at. Also I've had a few of their sectaries be rude to me. They've also recently changed their local number to an 0845 number which isn't counted as part of my 'free local calls' with my phone company!
