Wilson St surgery has evolved a lot in the past few years. It is now a huge place with lots going on.
There are about 10 different doctors practising at Wilson st but there is a huge turnover - so much so that you could actually never see the same doctor twice.
They now run an appointments system whereby you have to ring as early as you can in the morning to guarantee getting an appointment that day but if there aren't any appointments left you have to ring again tomorrow and keep ringing until you can get in. This can be really difficult if you are working or if you can only get out to the surgery at certain times.
I think that they have more patients than they can cope with these days. As an asthmatic I must see the nurse regularly but I haven't been able to see her in 2 years. Also I have never seen the same Nurse twice either which means there is no consistency and they have to learn all your history on meeting you once.
There are 6 rooms downstairs with a large waiting room and small kids play area. It is quite clean and comfortable and warm. Then you have 2 flights of stairs up to the other rooms and a much smaller waiting area that gets filled very quickly. It does get very hot in the upstairs waiting area too.
There isn't a kids play area as such but there is one of those plastic wendy houses that the kids can play in. That has been there about 10 years.
I think the main reason they get so busy is that they are the main practice for Derby Uni students. read more
