If you are limber enough you may get a room like ours on the upper floor. Elevator is small and takes a bit of time to get. Dinner was in the hotel's dining room - Bianconi Restaurant. After dinner we were treated to an Irish Coffee demo. That was informative and delicious. I had hesitated to get one when they were being made but caved when I tasted SO's. Centrally located, historic quaint. Enjoy while in Waterford.

The group was separated, despite a whole room available just off the main restaurant. The waitress was just annoyed with my disappointment and somewhat rude. We spent one night here in the town of Waterford…read more I liked the bar area as they had several different beers on tap and for our main meal which accommodated over forty people from our bus group, we had a bar a few steps away with one server. There was a line there with a few people as we ordered and retrieved our own beverages, but it was nice to have a bar to ourselves. The food was very good, but I remember vividly my girlfriend asked for her bacon to be cooked well and when they brought it out and it wasn't to her likening, the server replied, "What, you won't eat it like this?" To which, my girlfriend replied, "No." We had a bit of a chuckle about it later as I guess the waitress was pretty perturbed that she had to instruct the cook to fry it longer. There is a favorite bread around these parts called, Blaa. I have included a picture of it. Description from Wiki - A blaa /bl/, or Waterford Blaa, is a doughy, white bread bun (roll) speciality, particularly associated with Waterford, Ireland.[1] It is currently made in County Waterford and south County Kilkenny. The Blaa was soft and delish. I have also added a pic of the Blaa at the local market. Final thoughts, the hotel is a bit dated and older, but I was impressed with the food. Overall, this was a solid breakfast spread. From their hot breakfast menu, do yourself a favor and order their "Local 'Walsh's Bakehouse' Blaa". This is a sandwich served in a Waterford blaa (bread/roll) with sausage, rashers (i.e. bacon) and a fried egg. The Waterford blaa is the standout part of this sandwich with how doughy and soft it is, while the contents inside were excellent! This sandwich, with a side of fruit and a cup of coffee, is an excellent and filling way to start the day!

It's not cheap but then a real 5 star experience never is. Trying to think of a negative for, y'know, balance so the car park is a bit snug. That's it. That's all I've got. There were horses, goats and pigs. Swans swimming in the ponds. What a treat. The doormen were beyond helpful, friendly and genuine. Check in was quick and smooth. I felt badly with just my backpack and Tesco plastic bag when asked if we needed assistance with our baggage :-) (NOTE-in the evening there is the most delicious alcohol and non alcoholic lemonade type drinks in the lobby) The room rates tied to my stay at The Loge in Pebble Beach. So luxurious. I never wanted to leave the room. The bathroom is what dreams are made of. I took full advantage of having a lovely tub bath as well. The toiletries are top tier and the lotion was amazing and smelled so nice. It was for sale but because I only had a carry on I could not purchase it. The hotel has a great gym and swimming pool. They do have hours so plan accordingly. Also, you will have to purchase a swimming cap (if you have one from home bring it). Also, the pool does have specific hours for children. There are plenty of lockers you can leave your items as well. I loved seeing everyone around the hotel walking in their robes coming to and from the gym/pool to their rooms. We enjoyed walking the grounds too. We only ate breakfast here and WOW it was amazing and filled us up for the day. The honey is scraped fright from an enormous cone on the buffet. Super friendly and attentive staff. Once again top notch and class. There is plenty of parking available. We did not dine at the hotel for dinner but walked to the near by affiliated pub for dinner. The hotel did offer to drive us there and pick us up but we declined. It is safe and we enjoyed the short walk. All about the hotel are unique pieces of artwork and sculptures. I loved the wooden animals. There is a great historic bar, reading room as well. Note-do not turn on the do not disturb light on your door if you go out at night if you want turn down bed service and a delicious chocolate. Well worth the money. Trying to stay asleep with the constant noise was basically impossible. (Maybe it was like this because we arrived on Friday and stayed through to Saturday?) Bar : the bar had live music the days we were there and it was nice to be able to enjoy a few Guinness and just walk upstairs to the room. Drink: Alsace-Gewurztraminer "Hugel"; Aherne's Sorbet; Surf & Turf (Char-grilled Baby Fillet Steak & Prawns) Chile. Drink: Chile Crucero Cabernet Sauvignon; Farmhouse Cheese. Drink: Warre's 1999 Late Bottled Vintage Port; Sticky Toffee Pudding; Irish Coffee. Quite a meal. We were first in to the restaurant at seven and it was ten or afterwards before we finished. Business was quite slack on Friday, maybe a calm before the storm of Mother's day. The standard, as you'd expect, was very high indeed. All the courses were excellent and highlights included the scallop; the bass and particularly the salsa; the risotto also; steak (not quite the baby indicated) was splendid as was the cheese selection, not to mention the port; the sticky toffee was very rich and so tempting and the Irish Coffee rounded it all off. I'm a student and stuck here for 48 hours because they charged my cc as soon as I arrived ... you have a management controlled air conditioning and heating system- there's no way to cool:heat anything - the hotel solution-they delivered a fan and literally... a bucket of ICE water! Then trying to order from the restaurant I found a notice that said something about NOT DRINKING THE WATER and to either call or literally PAY for bottled water! You call, you will get a bucket of water with ice. Don't bother asking because I spoke with the owner after walking 1/4 a mile to buy bottled water ... doesn't really know why we can't drink the water-- or what's in it ---apparently that's just what people say in Ireland...seriously! I asked why and when they tested it and the OWNER said he did not know! I'm a Chef AND a doctor and this makes absolutely NO sense! Keep away from the hotel and drinking anything here!! Anyone who claims to own a hotel- and doesn't know everything about his own hotel history and potential water contamination should NOT be allowed to own a hotel! The county health department should take notice that there is NO notice anywhere except In an old folder, he joked about in our conversation, that I thought was for room service that says they strongly recommend NOT drinking the water! This should be on the advisory for the hotel upon booking a reservation-period! I am appalled that I had to walk to get water because anything bottled was for SALE - NOT for the guests! I was explicitly told this more than once. Stay away! This is NOT safe nor acceptable! I will post a follow up upon my departure! So many other issues- but these are the most serious that pose serious health implications ....
