The restaurant was very busy. We were seated far in the back. It's very dark and moody inside with lots of tropical plants. Grilled polenta with whipped salted cod and anchovy - was my least favorite dish. I wanted to love this, but it was missing something - maybe needed something with a little crunch? Wood roasted rainbow carrots - the sauce was delicious and carrots were nicely charred! Chargrilled hispi cabbage - our favorite dish! Sounds so simple but the flavor was so good!!! Ravioli - very rich and decadent end to the meal.

The server was not professional and didn't seem that attentive to us and had us order dishes one at a time that didn't make sense coming out alone. She would wipe the counter in front of us since we sat at bar with food falling on our laps and the food took forever to come out. The chef Fabio and his staff who is amazing noticed how hungry we were and long we waited made us special dishes because of the wait. Fabio saved the day to make up for lackluster service. Thank god we sat at counter so he could see us waiting longer than normal.

Both floors have independent bars, the downstairs one the more elaborate of the two. This is one of those places good for private or company parties, large family gatherings or even meetings which they have private rooms for. A short walk away from Shepherd's Bush station, the Bull's interior is a modern interpretation of the traditional British pub. It's a familiar place, easy to get comfortable in. There is a terrace on the ground floor and a balcony higher up, nice for when the weather allows. Head chef Tenzin and his team use British ingredients extensively throughout the menu, itself filled with British classics such as Fish & Chips, Sausage & Mash, Pies, etc. That said, we felt like returning our fish and chips and our beer-battered onion rings as both were nightmarishly soggy. There was obviously something wrong with their fryer on the day we visited. One of the waitresses confirmed that we weren't the only ones to experience this. If that really was the case, then I think it's shameful that they continued to serve something knowing it was flawed. Thankfully, the burger was better. To our surprise service was really good, friendly even. Coming from Dubai where service is everything, we have found restaurants in London, especially pubs, wanting in that department. This place was different, the blond bartender with a brown beard actually smiled at me once and opened a tab without asking for my credit card - wow! The rest of the staff were equally nice. I'd probably go back to The Bull for the ambience and to have a drink but I don't think I'd eat there again. Hey! The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London.

(I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!
