This was my first time here for a terrible ankle sprain. There was an annoying discrepancy with my insurance, but that did not take away from my experience at Park North. The physical therapist, PAPE, was absolutely amazing. He gives quality outstanding service his clients. He is professional, compassionate, patient, Top tier customer service skills, Knowledgeable and passionate about his profession but still eager and open minded to learn more. I was having difficulty with an AOS brace my doctor recommended and he admitted he was not familiar with the brace, but he didn't give up on helping me until he figured it out and then explained it to me. I'm really sad I cannot continue working with him at Park North. This is the 2nd time in my life I've done physical therapy, and this experience left a long lasting impression on me. My first experience was nothing compared to what I've learned from Pape in a brief period of time. The world needs more people like Pape. Thank you so much. read more

I highly recommend Park North Physical Therapy! I came to Dr. Pape Diagne with severe back and sciatic pain from an injury. It was so bad that I wasn't sure I'd ever be pain free without surgery, but after 8 weeks of working with Pape I am able to do everything I could do before the injury. One of the more annoying receptionists and schedulers I've ever encountered--takes two days to return calls and then gives you attitude. Sam actually hurt my hip, a lot, while rehabbing my ankle two years ago, and so I didn't return to the practice after hip replacement. However, now my knees need help and I thought to give them one more try. My mistake! Not worth the aggravation even if the location is super convenient. I'd rather travel farther to receive courteous service and competent treatment. read more

This place is friendly, clean and professional. Since an accident last fall fractured by wrist and pelvis, I have been working with occupation therapist Halima Akter to regain my wrist function and range of motion. She's been a lifesaver and with her encouragement, we've made great progress and really strengthened my upper body. My work with physical therapist Divya Rajamaran has also been excellent. My back pain is gone and my core and legs are much stronger. I highly recommend Park North on Broadway. read more

I have been working with Occupational Therapist Halima Akter at Park North Physical Therapy on Broadway at 108th Street for several months. Halima is a skilled and thoughtful (and delightful) OT who has helped me tremendously with significant pain related to tendonitis and tendinosis in my shoulder and arthritis in my wrists. Her attentiveness to strengths building, flexibility, and careful massage have proved invaluable and I'm currently pain free. I was treated by Tony for ~3 weeks for some prehab for two bum shoulders (one confirmed torn labrum via MRI that I've managed via PT without surgery) since my other shoulder was starting to get shaky and I wanted to get them both shored up since I had some extra money in my FSA to use. Although I only had a brief stint with Tony - he was amazing, very friendly and personable yet also very knowledgeable in explaining the purpose of each exercise we did. He was fantastic at progressing the workouts as to increase the difficulty without being overwhelmed. Hopefully, I don't have to return anytime soon but despite Park North PT being a out of network provider for my UHC PPO plan, I would still use them over the one in network provider I tried out. read more

This physical therapy office is a gem in the Harlem area. I am a physician so I have background knowledge in what constitutes good medical care- I can tell you I trust Park North 100%. After a spinal cord injury 7 years ago I went through a lot of therapy and therapists. When I met Sam I was resigned that I would never run again. He said 'I'll have you running in 6 months' and he did. I can run 6-8 miles, bike,ski. Years later I still see him regularly to help with my residual neurological problems. I went to Park North with some long term back pain, ankle pain, and a pulled muscle. My physical therapist Sam completely ignored the ankle issue and long term pain and only focused on the pulled muscle. He did not explain to me what was wrong or any possible diagnosis (I have been to PT before to fix posture and alignment and have had these issues explained to me in a way that sets out a clear issue and solution plan). My first session I was there for 2 hours and only did about 4-5 different exercises and then laid with a heating pad for a long time. Later that day the pain I had felt significantly worse and I was unable to sleep that night or the following night. When I came in for my next session 2 days later, Sam seemed confused and asked for my opinion on why I felt worse. He just overall seemed really not confident, did not seem like he had invested any time into coming up with a plan for my pain or issues, would take several minutes to come up with the next exercise for me to do. All he changed when I told him my pain had worsened was to give me the same treatment but a little bit less of it... Also the 2 times I went in his other patients were complaining about continuing pain that was not resolved with his therapy as well. One of the times, a woman who only spoke Spanish was his patient. He spoke very minimal Spanish and completely ignored her when she said multiple times that she was in a lot of pain (I understand a basic level of Spanish). This was really off putting to me, he just smiled benignly and told her she could leave. Sí habla español, no creo que hay un doctor aqui que habla español con fluidez y es possible que no va a recibir buen tratamiento aqui Nothing about Sam exuded confidence or made me trust him to help me, especially since I felt worse after seeing him both times. I don't think this is necessarily a bad place overall, and I can't speak for other therapists here, but I will be switching to a new clinic. I found Sam right here on Yelp. Having never been to physical therapy before, I took a chance and I'm glad I did. Luckily, his friendly office manager, Renee, was able to get my insurance approved (though they were out of network for me). I started seeing Sam with a giant hunchback and severe pain due to herniated disks in the lower lumbar. My doctor wrote an RX for 3 visits per week. After the second week I was standing straight again. By the fourth week I was in very little pain. His facility is set up like a 'workshop' (he calls it). I would be there for over an hour but he would be working with others at the same time, so all the patients would learn from each other. He would give me an exercise, make sure I was doing it right, then come back to check on me. Sam is very good at what he does, very friendly, and will answer all your questions to ensure that his patients become educated on how to take care of themselves. He is also to the point and doesn't dilly dally. I am now a month out of therapy, doing the exercises he showed me regularly and am totally recovered (even after lots of all day driving road trips back to back, which are very bad on a back injury). I was unfortunate enough to fall and sprain my ankle on the busy streets of our fair city. Additionally, I tore something in my shoulder when I hit the pavement. After meeting with my doctors, I began looking for a local Physical Therapy office in my neighborhood. After a few duds with unfriendly receptionists, I found Park North Physical Therapy. I spoke with Jeff on the phone and scheduled an appt. Best decision I've made for myself in quite some time. Jeff is extremely knowledgeable and was able to address my issues with customized exercises. He also recommended at-home routines that come with video tutorials thru their app, and taught me the importance of buying the right office chair. I highly recommend Park North. I did not work with any other therapist, but from what I could see, the staff as a whole are also very good to work with. The office is small, but clean and there are no stairs to deal with. They play a variety of music in the office with a good volume. All and All, profession operation and nice atmosphere! read more

I began seeing Sam after my ankle fracture surgery (ORIF). Sam is extremely knowledgable in many, if not all, aspects of physiology and willing to discuss at length. Sam is hands-on, and very attentive to detail. I never feel as though I'm blindly following instructions. The purpose of each exercise is outlined and he demonstrate with detailed instructions before asking me to perform them. He also holds my body in place during the exercises until I get the form correct and stands by to correct me the instant I get sloppy. Sam follows a full-body philosophy. He works the full chain of muscles (on both sides) instead of just working my injured ankle. This place is the exact opposite of a typical physical therapy factory where one therapist works with 5 or more people at a time. In addition to teaching, helping and watching me perform my exercises, at the end of every session he also massages the ankle to help increase mobility. The office/workspace is clean, well equipped and an overall very pleasant experience. read more

All-around excellent experience here. I started going here for a sports-related injury, and the treatment has been extremely effective and well-tailored to how quickly the recovery has gone. Every stage of recovery has gone a lot more quickly than I expected. The space is really nice and well-equipped as well. Dr. Sam was so attentive and friendly. He saw me right on the spot after greeting me at the door. And gave me his full attention for the entire hour. I had a severe strained tibialous posterior injury and he nipped it right in the bud and gave me all the tools and knowledge I needed to work on it myself so there is no need for excessive doctor visits. After being diagnosed with a herniated disc two years ago, I spent six months visiting a fancy-schmancy PT on the East Side only have my pain reduced but far from gone. Frustrated, and already living in Harlem, I popped in to check out Park North -- thank goodness! One session with Sam made me feel better (though it was hard work!) than the entire six months at my previous therapist, and after two months I was pain-free. I've gone back for touch-ups when anything goes haywire, and I can count on Sam to be attentive, punctual, professional and for my sessions to be productive. The therapist is also very knowledgable and has spent a lot of time making sure he knows the most current methods of therapy. I visited Sam for several weeks late last year to deal with chronic knee pain following an ALC reconstruction. This is something for which I had previously sought physical therapy (and, having lived in NYC for 15 years, I have -- sadly -- sought physical therapy for other stuff, too). Sam is head and shoulders the best therapist I have seen in NYC. Never once did I ever feel as if I was on the clock -- as I have often felt elsewhere. His command of the body and how it interconnects is exceptional. And, more than any other PT I have been to, Sam is willing to be hands-on in helping to stretch, as well as innovative and patient in testing out different approaches. Great facility with caring therapists. This is my only experience with physical therapy, but I've heard that some places are like factories. Not this one. The ratio of patients to therapists was always low, so I always felt like I was getting enough attention. They are very professional and good at dealing with insurance companies so you can just concentrate on the healing. They were recommended to me by the physiatrist I saw after injuring my calf. When I started I was still limping and in pain. After a few weeks, I was back on track with regular exercise, pain free and feeling stronger than I had been before I was hurt. read more
