My friend and I stayed at the Embassy West during Canada Day, which happened to be nearing its last days as a hotel. They were doing hardcore renovations and we were lucky enough to be given one of the newly renovated rooms. We were definitely impressed! The rooms had dark hardwood floors and cabinetry, a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and sink, a walk-in closet, accessible bathroom, couch, TV with basic cable, visually-appealing art on the walls, and one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in. To be honest, it's much nicer than many apartments in the city, and even though its updated and more contemporary, it's still cozy. I believe some of the staff is still there, and, of course, there is new medical staff to assist in senior care. They have always been very kind and accommodating, and the management is still the same, so I trust that the quality of service meets or exceeds individual, long-term care needs, just the way it met hotel standards.

Long term care facilities get a bad rap, but I actually feel that Revera does a fairly good job…read more We had a loved one live at the Westwood for close to a year. Prior to that he lived at another Revera facility (the Stittsville Villa and Manor), but that one was for independent and supportive living only, so when his needs exceeded their capacity, he was transferred to the Westwood, which provides assisted living and long term care. The Westwood feels slightly less homey and more like an institution than the Stittsville Villa and Manor, but it does not feel "depressing" nor other adjectives that many associate with such facilities. Staff are very pleasant and residents do not seem neglected. Most of our loved one's time at the Westwood was during the Covid-19 Pandemic. They did have an outbreak when he was there, but it was not nearly as bad as at other long term care facilities in Ottawa. I think they handled it quite well. When they were in outbreak, they had residents eating in their rooms, but as the virus got more under control they had residents back in the dining room with good physical distancing measures. During the outbreak they really had strict restrictions on visitors and after the outbreak they still limited visitors and had screening processes. Although they faced some criticism, I feel they did their best with what they had. We were happy with the care he received at the Westwood. He would still be there had he not moved to a hospice for the last days of his life. The Westwood has a family doctor who comes to the residents, which saves residents the trouble of leaving their home to see a family doctor. The Westwood also has a pharmacy and lab on-site. They have a fitness room and a salon on-site as well. There is plenty of free visitors' parking in their 2 private parking lots. I would not hesitate to recommend the Westwood for those at the point in their lives where they require such living arrangements. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank those working at the Westwood and in all long term care facilities, especially those providing the everyday routine care to the residents. I recognize that it's hard work and not glamourous. I commend you and applaud you. Thank you.
