This place has continued to make great improvements over time! They've upgraded all the seats in the theatres, they upgraded the projectors, and they have first run movies now. This is still very reasonably priced compared to other theaters around. I don't go to as many movies these days (not as many as when I wrote my first review back in 2013) but I always check the Parkade's showings as my first go to option. Definitely recommend you check it out. read more

This movie theater has definitely become my favorite movie theater in the area. It is family owned and smaller than the others but they have everything that you could need. I love their rewards program that gives you points for every purchase. They have a few rooms that showcase their different movie offerings. The staff is so friendly and answer any questions that you might have. The best part is definitely the prices. Tuesdays they have the six dollar deal and every day before 5 PM it's eight dollars. The Parkade movie theatre is family owned and has been playing movies since 1966. Doesn't that qualify as vintage? I've only just discovered it. It is located in a sneaky off the beaten path location. I'm so happy I discovered this place and I hope they stay around for many, many more years. The outside looks old, and it's so cool to see, that its original structure is still there. The inside is trippy, it'll have you wondering "where am I, and what year is it?" The floors and ceilings are black and white checked and the walls are covered in movie posters. They're everywhere, in all the hallways. There's an an actual person selling you your ticket, not a machine, which I haven't come across in a long time. The ticket was only $10 for a 7:00 pm showing of No Hard Feelings. Of course they have a concession stand with candy, coke and popcorn, which I didn't get any of. The theatre it's self, is really nice. Yes, a vintage theatre is really nice. The seats all recline and are super comfy, dare I say more comfortable than some of the brand new theatre's seats. There was a gentle breeze of an AC, that was just comfortable and not too cold at all. The movie sound and quality were excellent. There were no assigned seats, we could sit where we wanted. I'm so glad I discovered this theatre, my friend and I were both so impressed by how old and well run it is. I will be back for sure. read more

This is a fantastic, locally owned movie theater showing first-run movies at times and for a amazingly lower price than the multiplex spot up at the Buckland Mall. The seats are so comfortable, the popcorn is awesome and the staff are always helpful and friendly!! And you can rent any of the theaters for any occasion and have your movie of choice played during (I believe it may have to be Blue-Ray at least), so cool!! Place is tucked away behind a strip mall, didn't even know it existed. Outside it looks run down, honestly very 80-90s vibe along with the parking lot. Inside the food is not what you want go eat. Popcorn is old, probably made in batches or comes from big bags that get thrown into a big glass case. Pizza and hot dog are frozen that get microwaved. The plus was the movie room its self, they put money into it and had updated reclining seats, the room was very clean. My sons and his friends enjoyed themselves for the party since they had the whole theater to themselves. read more

I'm new to the area and decided to take myself out to see Evil Dead Rise. The movie theater is old and small, but I enjoyed the vintage look. So A+ for that. The thing I did not like was for a Saturday night I feel it was a little understaffed. And the cash register wasn't working properly so the line was long. Also the popcorn wasn't fresh but I wouldn't say it was stale. BUT because of the vintage feel and that it wasn't packed. I'll probably return again. read more

Went to watch Thor: Love and Thunder and the cinema provided exactly what it claimed. I just wish the speakers were a little bit quieter at times. I understand that it helps with immersion, but that is until my ears hurt. But, do not think this is unique to just Parkade Cinemas. Nevertheless, I had a great experience. read more

I haven't been to the Parkade in many years, but I have fond memories of taking my kids there when they were younger. We decided to revisit in order to avoid the big Black Friday weekend crowds. The positive changes since I last visited were the installation of the large, luxury recliners which were spacious and comfortable. They also (of course) have the new digital projectors. The negatives include the snack bar- they were out of pizza that my son wanted, and they do not have butter topping for the popcorn (it is supposedly pre-added? Of course, what if you don't want butter on your popcorn?). Also- the most negative things was the very strong smell of disinfectant that you notice as soon as you enter the building. The smell permeated everywhere- the concession stand, the theaters, and of course the bathrooms. Not pleasant at all. They really need to address this- I mean, who wants to eat anything with that smell everywhere! read more

I drove by this place endless times without ever going to it, because, to be honest, it looks crappy from the outside, and the other buildings near it are all boarded up. Well don't judge a book by it's cover, as they say. The movies hit it a little later than the regular theaters, but they have a good number of show times available, and the tickets are cheaper. What I like best is the overall feel of the place. It's like stepping back into the theaters from when I was a kid, with the best part being that it gets darker than the new cinemas. Seats: The seats aren't stadium, but they're comfy enough, and the screen is hung high enough that the heads in front of you don't get in the way. At the same time, you don't feel like you're looking up too much either. Crowd: The place doesn't see a lot of visitors, so it's easy to get your own little empty seat buffer zone. Most likely you can have your own row. Additionally, the rooms aren't gigantic like in the chain cinema's, so there's a noticeably lower amount of background white noise, and you have a lower chance that there'll be some little snot in the room with you making stupid comments. Price: Tickets are obviously a little cheaper than the normal chain cinemas. read more

This theatre gets the movies after Buckland is done with theirs, to eliminate the competition. It's nice to go when you want to wait a few weeks to see the "latest" movies. They also have great family packages to make it more affordable for middle income families to enjoy a night out! However, they are not open during the daytime, which sucks donkey balls! This place has been around forever, but has held up pretty well. I like that they have a good selection of movies showing, clean restrooms and lower prices than other theaters in the area. Make sure you choose you seat wisely, some are more "broken in" than others! I used to come here wayyyyyy back in the day when it was Hoyt's Cinema. I have great memories of coming here with my dad and I'm so glad it's still around for me and my husband and friends to enjoy. I like this place better, not only for the nostalgia, but because it's less chaotic and showy than Rave Cinemas up at the mall. What you get at the Parkade are much cheaper tickets to the movies you want to see (despite a minimal wait when new movies come out, but I think I heard that they are doing away with that? Not sure) as well as a smaller, more intimate theater experience overal, and usually the theater is not packed so you can enjoy your movie in peace and not shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers. They also do karaoke nights and other cute events (I haven't tried these out for myself but I hear they are enjoyable) As long as they stay in business I will most definitely be a loyal patron! read more

This isn't your average movie theater. It would fit more in with the movie houses of yesteryear than what's currently out there. For some people that is a bad thing, for people like me that is a good thing. This movie theater is tucked away in Manchester, behind Stop & Shop and has movies that have already played on larger movie theaters for a while. This allows the parkade to charge a lower fee for them. That is certainly nice and as a result there aren't huge crowds at the parkade, which is also a plus. Usually they have about 3 movies PG-13 and above to offer each week and 3 children's films each week. The movie selection for the week changes on Thursday. There are only 4 theaters, so the showtimes can be constrained. However, there is a different element to this place which needs to be mentioned, it has a different "down to earth feel". It's family owned and for the most part operated. They've always seemed like nice people and the inside is cozy. In addition the theater does offbeat things like hosting a haunted house in one of the theaters for Halloween and they do Rocky Horror Picture show midnight screenings once a month (and they are very fun). I'd definitely recommend attending one of those at least once in your life. Overall this place isn't for everyone, but it's absolutely worthing checking out. read more

Parkade Cinemas is a delightful anomaly. My husband and I must have been the last people on Earth to see Brooklyn after it won Best Picture. Parkade Cinemas was the only movie theater in Connecticut still playing it. We ventured out, to a town unfamiliar, to this place that in pictures looked a bit weary. We were pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of parking. Only $7 for a ticket. Parkade is a flash back to the mid-80's. Retro and clean, even the bathrooms. I hope Parkade keeps it's charm for a long time to come. This is an old-fashioned movie theater without stadium seating, dolby surround sound, IMAX, comfortable chairs, or extensive concessions. It's a place to see a movie where you look up at the screen, and can pay a lot less for a ticket than you can at the big multiplex down the road. They have a decent selection of films, and are worth checking out if you're looking for a calmer, cheaper place to see a movie. They've even started having first-run movies! read more

I really like this theater. It's like going back in time. It's smaller than most theaters nowadays, the seating isn't updated and modern, but it's a great theater. Current movies and some older ones. Have been come here for a while I love this place more then rave motion pitchers. When they updated to show more recent movies I was so excited and glad they where getting bigger and better. I love this theater. I have gone to this theater throughout my life and it's just like home. Lots of changes in the last couple of years and more recently. So clean, well lit and nicely priced. They are open during the day time, they open at 12pm. They now show first run movies, no longer are they playing second run movies unless it's for one if their classic movie night. And they now have a luxury auditorium with sweet recliners that put you in a fully reclined position. Be careful, you'll miss half the movie due to being so relaxed you'll fall asleep. They even have one if their associates come through to take your order so you don't miss a second of your movie. It's first class service. And they do events and special activities like karaoke, paint night and dinner and a movie. If you haven't been lately, do yourself a favor and go. Everyone is so friendly there! read more

Bad experience here last night. Were supposed to meet friends for a movie but went to the wrong theater, so we were late. Friends spoke to a manager who assured them that two tickets would be held for us. When we arrived, ticketing staff knew nothing of this and had us stand around for fifteen minutes while they tried to figure out what was going on. They finally sold us 2 tickets but when we went in (movie had already started), there were no seats available. Seemed like nobody was really in charge, super disorganized. We got a refund and left. Staff apologized but one would think a voucher would be offered? Very embarrassing situation for us and our friends caused by their disorganization. read more

The Parkade Cinema is the perfect place to see a movie ... if every other theater within a reasonable driving distance of your house is completely sold out. If you like no frills -- as in no heat, reclining seats that don't recline, minimal snack choices, and movie screens that are too small for the content being shown (this may be the projectionist's fault) -- the Parkade is your ideal movie house. Had a groupon so hubby and I decided to try it out. Have to admit, area looked hella sketchy at night. Once we found the theatre (missed the sign from the main road), we were surprised. It's neatly tucked away, in the back, almost hidden. It almost looks out of place, like it should be on a main street in a small town circa 1950s, instead of Manchester Ct. But, I really liked the look and feel. Sure, it's small and the seats are kinda low-seated, but I didn't feel herded like at Rave. Everything looks dated but it was very clean and the attendants were beyond nice. We loved it! Think we've found our new go to cinema. We'll be back! read more
