I have come across a handful of recruiters in my job search throughout the years. I've always had bad experiences with recruiters because they never seemed genuine after the first meeting. I understand that the employer is their client, but I find that most of them won't even give you a call back or reply to your emails if their client has moved onto another candidate. This was until I had the pleasure to work with Steven Mas at Parker + Lynch. Steve is one of the good ones, he is the only recruiter I've met who actually cares and genuinely works hard to help place you in a position that you want. He will always give me the details of the company and the position, and make sure I like everything presented before sending my resume out. Steve always replies to my emails/calls within a couple of hours. He even checks in on me every once in a while just to see how things are going. In the end I didn't end up getting placed with a company through Parker + Lynch, but when I told Steve I got a job offer, he was really happy for me. While they present themselves as being professional and like to think that they are on the same level or above Robert Half and Michael Page they are not even close. Recruiters call candidates in for "jobs" which they do not have. They just call people in, in order to meet their weekly interview quotas as well as to build up their pipeline of candidates, which clearly are a waste of your time if you are working and had to take time off to come in. I met with the Director for Long Island and she was obnoxious and trying to sell me on an internal recruiting role despite my making it clear that I was not interested. She also told me that my appearance was too professional and that I should wear business casual attire.I guess that my dress suit did not sit well with someone who came into the office in an inappropriately short dress with huge open toe wedge heels. read more

Parker & Lynch and Ajilon on Long Island: This agency was somber upon walking-in. The Director of the Long Island territory explained more about her achievements and accolades than I did my background and goals. Quite honestly, it was quite exhausting. The Director's ego needed to be left at the door, and it was clear that if someone challenged her philosophy or provided different insight into her field, she felt the need to attempt to chip the individual to size--incredibly unprofessional, I have the ball in my court type of interaction. Now, this all happens behind a closed door; therefore, Parker & Lynch Leadership would not know, if the interviewee didn't complain. All in all, it was an unpleasant experience with a Director that said things that were inappropriate, offensive at points and clearly not interested in attracting high caliber talent.
