Fun fact, I made my first comic purchase here about 6 years ago. Since my last visit, the layout appears to be easier to navigate. The space is made up of about three different rooms to explore, so I didn't feel cramped or as if I was invading anyone's bubble. The staff answered my many questions and even attempted to assist me in recalling a title I was having trouble finding. Which I later identified. The parking was a bit hectic on a Friday afternoon. I was in and out within a matter of minutes. I initially dropped in for the New Bloodline comic but also decided on the Scarlet Witch while browsing. My purchases came out to $9.59. High Point being without a real bookstore these past few years has been an embarrassment. BookLove occupies a smallish space, but it makes good use of it by creating a cozy vibe. The walls are lined with books of all different genres from classic lit to kids' reads. The stock is predominantly used, and its condition varies quite a bit, but you aren't going to find anything tattered beyond recognition (or priced as if it were). The owner, a former English teacher, is kind and welcoming. I'm glad that BookLove has arrived, and I look forward to seeing it grow (metaphorically, and, hopefully, literally) in the future.

Though the shop is relatively small, it is not cramped inside and has a great selection. The majority of the store is a fiction section, arranged by author last name, which spans across most of the wall. They also have dedicated sections for several of my favorite topics, such as gender studies, nature, science, and local authors/interest. Each section is smaller than what you'd see in a big-box store, but it doesn't matter because they're perfectly curated -- I would read almost anything I've seen in this store. There is a cart of used books they've just gotten in, but most of the used books are actually shelved alongside the new books in their respective sections. I think this is an excellent use of space, and I like that I can just go look for what I want once, as opposed to searching for something in a used section and then having to search for the exact same thing in the new section if they didn't have it used. There is also a small selection of "last chance" used books at a greatly reduced price. Most, if not all, of the books I saw in this selection were only $2, and they were in great condition! The owner + staff are friendly, and I love their taste in books! If you are near Winston and like to read or know anyone who does, you HAVE to come here.

Writing this review is reminding me that I'm due for a visit, but I haven't yet found the right occasion or celebration! Their service is outstanding. The outdoor patio area has plenty of seating with bar service and several good beers on tap. You can count on a Guinness or an IPA. Havana Phil's will take care of you from the first step inside to the last. It's certainly a treat for me to come here, so I'm looking forward to the next visit whenever that'll be in the future.
