Though I'm not an avid comic book reader, some usually catch my attention. I have enjoyed some stories from the Saga series from this location. Today, I was in the mood for a new adventure. Fun fact, I made my first comic purchase here about 6 years ago. Since my last visit, the layout appears to be easier to navigate. The space is made up of about three different rooms to explore, so I didn't feel cramped or as if I was invading anyone's bubble. The staff answered my many questions and even attempted to assist me in recalling a title I was having trouble finding. Which I later identified. The parking was a bit hectic on a Friday afternoon. I was in and out within a matter of minutes. I initially dropped in for the New Bloodline comic but also decided on the Scarlet Witch while browsing. My purchases came out to $9.59. A truly impressive comic book store. Excellent customer service from the owner and staff. A CLEAN and colorful environment that you can bring your kids or partner to without worrying about the stereotypical clutter. The impressive back issue selection is refreshed weekly and super well-organized. If you're ready to create a pull list (highly advised!), Acme is great with communication about adding new titles. Plus -- the owner and staff actually READ the new titles and are ready to give a FRIENDLY and informed recommendation. (If you've been to the "other" type of stores, you know that's not as common as it should be.) Regular updates on social media keep you informed of new titles worth checking out. The best factor overall is the FUN and NO PRESSURE atmosphere created by the staff and customers who have made this a true treasure of the local community. Recently moved to the city and have been really looking forward to checking this place out. I finally had the chance to and I was blown away. Their selection is super wide and tailors to many different tastes. Everyone who was working greeted me and took interest in what I was looking for and we even started a conversation. Some of the pricing can be hit or miss depending on what someone is looking for but I'd rather spend a little bit more money and support an independent business than a chain. Will definitely be a frequent shopper. Greatest comic book store I have ever been to. It's the perfect place if you're looking to get into comics or if you have a lot of knowledge on the subject. The staff are always there willing to help you out with any questions. They keep the place extremely clean and very well organized so you have no trouble finding your fancy. I honestly have nothing but good things to say about this place, I grew up going there as a kid and I still find myself loving this place just as much as an adult, if not more. So there are many comic book stores in the area, and they all, to be honest, do a good job. ACME does a GREAT job! Let me give ya an example. The other day I picked up my comics from my subscription box and there was an Avengers annual from 1977. I don't collect Avengers. But this issue starred Warlock and Thanos. I do collect those. I didn't even know this comic existed, but they knew I collected those two characters so they put it in my box. Now that my friends is customer service. And there have been many instances where they'd ask me if I had heard about this new release or if I had that old comic (I got two awesome Thanos variants I didn't know existed once). I've shopped here for over 20 years. The staff is constantly working to fine-tune everything from displays, to how they can help customers find the comics they want. Overall a great store. First off, it's large, much bigger than it looks from the street. It's laid out nicely too to utilize the area. Plenty of books on the current shelves for those with subscriptions, but the person looking to dive through back issues is going to really enjoy this place. There's a whole room for just key books but the regular back issue area is massive. They have entire sections for Transformers, action figures, statues and more. Take the time to look at both the regular and store themed original art on the wall. My friend shops there regularly so he took me as a guest from out of town and the owner was as nice as can be. His staff was great too. They all really seems to enjoy working there. Plus, and this one is big, it's really seems like a family store. I seen multiple family's letting their kids shop around and bring books to the counter which is definitely needed these days. A can't miss if you are anywhere in the area with very fair prices. I decided to switch from purchasing digital scans to physical comics and graphic novels when I was introduced to the new 007 Vargr series. My friend recommended me to come here. I visiting this shop, maybe twice, many, many, many moons ago. I vaguely remember what it looked like from then. It's spacious, clean, and well organized. Easy to maneuver around and find what you're looking for since it's sectioned off pretty well. The staff and regular customers are very helpful without being pushy. Acme is a phenomenal place to shop. They stock way beyond just the "big two" and have a colossal back issue section. Harder-to-find graphic novels, like those by Humanoids, Archaia, etc. are available. Plus a great young readers section, manga section, multiple statue and action figure displays, plus a large toy display, typically featuring Transformers of all eras. The staff is amazing. They let customers know they're available as needed, and if you ask them for recommendations or tell them what you're interested in, they'll quickly give you a couple of places to start and let you dig in. If you want to talk about the latest movie or TV show, they'll do that too, but they'll make sure no one shopping gets spoilers as well. They're unselfish like that. :) Acme routinely engages with the broader community through Free Comic Book Day (averaging over 1,000 attendees each year I think!), as well as drives for school supplies, Christmas toys and more. They host movie showings at local theaters, book club discussions and signings with both local and internationally-known comic creators. Overall, Jermaine, Austin, Pete and team make "buying comics" easy and fun by sharing their excitement about the latest week's comics they've read and making sure we all keep up to date on what's coming next. read more

Best comic shop in North Carolina. Friendly staff that goes out of the way to take care of you. They don't try to take advantage on hot comics and give you a very fair price. Great selection of comics that allowed me to finish several collections. I order my comics to be shipped and they have the best packaging. I can call on NCBD and any comic I want that came out that day they will make sure I get a copy. Amazing or I'm just super lucky. I say they are Amazing!!! If you need a home store, I haven't found a better place and I visit 15 different comics shops each month if not more. I travel every week to a new state and I try to visit all the comic shops in the state I'm in. Beats spending to much time in a hotel. Acme Comics is a treasure, one of the few Holly and I found while visiting Greensboro. Acme has everything you could want in a pure comics shop: an enormous, well-arranged inventory; a spacious, well-lit store; and friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff. They are also strictly in the comics business; you will find comics-related action figures, but apart from those you will find only comics - no Magic, no Warhammer, no D&D, no Settlers - in short, no distractions. I love hobby and game stores, but Acme's purity was refreshing. There's not much worth seeing in Greensboro, at least not that we've found, but Acme alone is worth the trip. read more

Let me start this off by saying this is by far the biggest and nicest comic book shop I've ever gone to. The selection is fantastic and you can find almost anything you're looking for. That being said, the reason I'm giving them a two-star is because of the staff. I've gone in multiple times and every single time I come in they hassle me, trying to get me to buy or read comics that I have no interest in. If I say "No thank you," they pick up something else and try to get me into it. When I stop by (and it's rarely because there are so many other comic book stores with pleasant staff) and ask if they have for instance a certain Deadpool back issue I'm looking for, they will lead me to it, but then start raving about some indie comic that has nothing to do with what I asked for, and this will go on for about 10 minutes until I finally manage to walk out. So overall, if you are looking for the biggest selection of comic books and figures/toys, this is the place to go. Just be prepared for a staff that WILL NOT LEAVE YOU ALONE! read more

I absolutely love this place. Everyone that works there are extremely helpful and can give you a wealth of knowledge on comics. The first time I went in the store they automatically knew I was new because it is that kind of place. They asked me what I was currently reading, what I have read, what kind of genres I read most of. From there they recommended a bunch of series that I would probably like. You can create your own mail box so they can keep up with everything you like and just place it in your box so when you come in they have everything there for you. I would have to say that everything they have recommended I have highly enjoyed, especially from Jermaine. He is the man! read more

Tons of trades and back issues, sort of high on the back issues and outside of occasional (very good) sales they usually want cover for the trades/collections but its a local business and theyre giving 100% everyday. They also run a subscription service where you save x% on new stuff if you get x amount of titles I dont know specifics anymore, ended mine when I changed jobs a few years ago, but ill still make the trip out to check out the backstock or if I'm looking for any collection more than 6 months old or from a publisher other than Marvel/ DC/ Image. read more

My sister has been shopping at this store for 9 years, spending thousands. She's an extreme introvert and rarely says or does anything outside of reading comics and manga. She was told to leave the store and never return because she was reviewing some products before she bought them. She was stalked and followed to the parking lot where her and my mother, retired lieutenant commander for the us navy, we're harassed and questioned as to when they would plan to buy the comics. Since my sister is so quiet, she asked me to call and go talk to the people in an effort to try to come to some understanding. The people were rude, and employees refused to allow you to speak to management. By far one of the most immature environments I've ever encountered. If you have kids, don't bring them here because they will not be welcome. read more

I can't emphasize enough how many comics I've bought at Acme that have subsequently become favorites (was going to say addictions, but perhaps that's too strong). Every time I go in (and I always head straight for the independent comics), one of their super awesome staff members points me towards something incredible. In my experience (and yes, I work at an independent bookstore in Chapel Hill), you don't get that kind of personalized, human connection online or at a big box store. Not only are they friendly, but the folks are Acme really listen to what I like. I don't know that I ever would've picked up Blacksad on my own (y'all, it's AMAZING), not to mention Locke & Key or Matt Kindt's Superspy. Since I live halfway between Chapel Hill & Greensboro, I frequently elect to drive over on a Saturday, chiefly for the purpose of browsing to my heart's content. If you're into superhero stuff -- cool, they've got that. If, like me, you skew towards the more stylized, artsy, independently-published stuff -- this is your place. read more

After being away from my loved ones on a business trip for over a week I stepped into Acme Comics @ 5:55pm on a Tuesday. I was going to buy my girlfriend a Walking Dead graphic novel for her birthday, which I missed due to my trip. I was immediately greeted by the sales clerk only to be rushed and practically ushered back out the door like a filthy stray animal because they needed so badly to close the store at exactly 6pm on a normal business day. The next thing the clerk said after "Hello" was "Just so you know we close at 6" as we walked me to the door with all the passive-aggressiveness he could muster. Apparently this comic book store is doing quite well however because they didn't need my money or anyone else's money who couldn't rush over to the store before 5:55pm after they got off work at 5pm themselves. What an absolute joke. I recommend you take your needs elsewhere if you appreciate being treated with respect. read more
