The shopman here was kind and concise. He told me to come back the same time the next day to get the finished product. After picking them up, my skates were unfortunately smudged and scratched. Personally, I wasn't that disappointed about it, but I can see how others would be. If you care about aesthetics of your final product, I'd recommmend looking at other options before coming here.

I used to ride a Citi Bike over, but they also have ample parking, and being right off the West Side Highway made it accessible even for people coming from less convenient parts of the city. It is by no means cheap, but the facility is well-maintained, with two sheets of ice and a serious adult hockey setup. The west rink is especially nice if you get a daytime slot, with views of the Hudson River. I played here for 7 years during my 13 years living in New York, across both Division 1 and Division 4. I always had fun and met a lot of solid people through the leagues. At the time, the rink was run by Dan Genovese, who was super cool, a great hockey player, and someone who ran the leagues and facilities fairly. Adult hockey can get chaotic quickly, and Chelsea Piers generally felt organized, competitive, and well-managed. For a few years, I also stored my equipment in a locker in the Canadiens' locker room, which made skating there much more convenient. Chelsea Piers has plenty beyond hockey, including a driving range and other athletic offerings, but I was really a customer of the ice rink. From that perspective, it is one of the better sports facilities in Manhattan: expensive, yes (like everything in NYC), but clean, organized, well-located, and a great place to keep playing competitive adult hockey in the city.

Walked in looking for a specific shoe, the Adidas HU. Popped around the store by myself (super…read moresmall store) and couldn't find it. Luckily, employee named Sade greeted me with a huge smile and even cracked a joke with me. She took the reigns in trying to find me a similar shoe on the wall but we found that it just wasn't what I was looking for. Sade (while multi-tasking) offers to order it online for me! She was super knowledgeable about specific brand's shoe sizing & taught me that Nike is more narrow and Adidas is more wide. That's called going above and beyond to educate a customer! She also saved me from ordering the wrong type of shoe because my shoe only comes in kids preschool and men's kids. I had no clue what to order and definitely wouldn't have ordered the sneakers if she wasn't there because I would've been too confused. She was just about to ring me up when I found a discount code on my phone that she unfortunately couldn't apply so she was nice enough and told me that I can just stay here and buy it on my phone myself to be able to apply the 10% off. I get my Adidas HU sneakers mailed to me in a few days and it's really because of her help! Sade is an exemplary employee and I hope her manager reads this and allows her to start training other employees on proper customer service.

I'd been using my Birkenstocks as walking shoes, which is more or less fine in L.A. where I don't usually travel long distances on foot; but less fine in New York, where my mom and I spent hours a day crossing town to catch various rare Pokemon. I decided it was finally time to get some new sneakers, and Manhattan being Manhattan, a Foot Locker presented itself at just the right moment. The store was spacious, with one huge wall devoted to women's sneakers. As we walked in, a put-together-looking Asian woman was buying a pair of Nike running shoes in my size, and because I am easily suggestible and have few fashion-adjacent ideas of my own, I tried on the same shoes shamelessly the moment she left. I picked out like one other pair to look at, but they were less attractive and more expensive, and also were made out of like one piece of fabric so the shoes had no tongues, which kind of freaked me out and made them hard to get on. I don't understand trends in sneaker tech. I ended up buying those Nikes, and they've served me pretty well so far. I also got a few pairs of no show socks that actually stay on, making them superior to all other no show socks I've owned, which tend to slip off my heels and gather hatefully at the middle of my feet. Service here was great. Winston was a super helpful, friendly sales guy, and check-out and all that were easy. One thing worth noting, though: both pairs of shoes I tried on were readily available for less money online, and the Foot Locker store didn't accept coupons for the Foot Locker site. I like to shop brick and mortar and certainly got value from trying on sneakers in store with Winston's help. That said, Foot Locker is an enormous company, not a neighborhood boutique, and I feel like their policies could be a little more accommodating. In any case, I'm glad I finally got myself some sneakers that aren't hideous and embarrassing. I've been getting good use out of them already, and am happy I came across this Foot Locker at the right time.
