Our family was on a multi-state road trip and taking our hotel stays day-by-day. When we decided to…read moreland in the Wisconsin Dells area, we were debating whether to spend 1 night or 2 in the area. I came upon the Voyageur Inn and was attracted to it because it boasted of WiFi, a pool/hot tub, an on-site restaurant and bar. I saw from the pictures that it is an older property, but we'd been having good luck with older properties this trip, finding several that were clean and comfortable, and we hoped for the same from Voyageur. I envisioned that we might be able to use the pool with our tween, then my husband and I might enjoy a cocktail at the bar in the evening while he played with his friends on his iPad in the room. If the room/amenities had been as comfortable as we'd hoped, we'd have stayed 2 nights. We ended up leaving after 1, and gratefully so. First, there is no WiFi in the rooms, they say they're "working on it," but based on the signage it doesn't seem like they're planning on finishing that "work" anytime soon. The woman at check-in was sitting at a desk in a back office facing the front, but still made us ring the bell before she would come out, though she knew we were standing there. She couldn't find our reservation initially. She finally found it, and gave us our keys. We noted that the main hall smelled funny, and the halls where the rooms are located are DARK. Looks like something out of a horror movie walking up. We opened our first room and it was HOT. I turned the AC on and noticed it didn't seem to be blowing very cold, but we thought we'd go to dinner and leave it running, and see if it cooled down. It didn't. When we got back and it was still hot, we went to the front desk (rang the bell again), and the woman's response after we told her we went to dinner and came back was, "It just takes a while, give it 10 minutes." We said it's already been over an hour. She said, "Well, I'd have to come check it," as if we wouldn't want her to do that. We said, "Yes, please do!" She did come confirm that the AC wasn't working, and told us maintenance wasn't in. We asked for a different room, and she said she could move us, but the other room's door key wasn't working so she'd have to figure out the key. We asked to be moved, and after some time she was able to bring us a key for the new room. We learned that the restaurant and bar is only open from 5-8 in the evenings, so no chance of that evening cocktail. No towels at the pool, we used our room towels. The WORST part of the whole stay, though, was what passed for a "bed"! Sleeping on the floor might have been worse, but not by much. The king-sized bed was literally like sleeping on a cot. It doesn't even feel like a real bed. Thinnest mattress I've ever seen in my life. That alone would be reason enough to cut our stay short, if we had planned on being there more than one night. It was truly awful. Pros: The rooms are large. They were satisfactorily clean. There was a stain on the carpet and some stray hairs in the bathroom, but other than that it did seem pretty clean. And the complimentary breakfast ticket at the restaurant next door IS nice. We had a great breakfast of scrambled eggs, meat, toast with jelly, and coffee, in a nice sit-down restaurant atmosphere, free of charge. That was nice. Also, the Norman Rockwell art collection on site is pretty cool. There's a nice little biographical write-up of Norman Rockwell available in the lobby, and their collection of his complete works is on display in the halls leading to the restaurant. That being said, our overall experience at the Voyageur Inn was... lacking. We've stayed in some old hotels and motels that were really well-run, clean, and nice. This wasn't that. This was a property in decline in EVERY way, not just by age. Do not recommend.

It's not pretty, but it's clean and the service is impeccable. Comes with breakfast, WiFi, great large television and- did I mention? It's clean. No stains, hairs, or bodily emissions to add to your trip. Even had plenty of parking to go around, and a great restaurant across the roadway. Really don't know why people have such low reviews, completely not deserved. Do yourself a favor and stay here, avoid the Inn.

Old broken chairs, garbage, food, alcohol bottles, and a variety of "sharp" objects littered the grounds. The interior was somewhat better, nothing special, but at least it appeared to be picked up. When given our room key, we went up to our room only to see someone sitting on the lounge chair with his feet on the bed playing on his phone. We both started each other and he apologized profusely, so we thought it was a room the staff was using and we asked for another room. We were told the hotel was booked full. With that, we waited for the room to be cleaned. The room appeared dusty, so we purchased some Lysol to do a wipe down. Surprise! The bathroom floor was sticky. I wiped down the shower which was caked in dirt, soap scum, and a white chalky substance reminiscent of male DNA deposits. From there, I tackled the small black hairs decorating the crevices of the tub, and moved to the toilet seat to get the yellow droplets from the rim. Then, I began to wipe the sticky droplets from the floor, only to find the massive urinal (see below). The little brown things on the mattresses, believed to be bed bug related, was enough. We ran. To add to our delight? We were told no refunds (call Expedia). Guess what? Expedia says the manager at the hotel has to authorize the refund. In other words, a misrepresentation by the desk manager. Way to tee up a lawsuit. RUN. Run like you're on fire.

When we arrived at the hotel, the desk clerk refused to honor our reservation. He said that particular room cost much more than what we paid. I showed him my itinerary which listed all the amenities of the room. He said that was just an ad of what they have to offer, not the room we booked. That is bull! I called Priceline who called the hotel but got no answer. They also sent an email which got mo answer. Same thing the next day. No answer. They will not compensate us for not holding up their end of the bargain. Not a good place to stay. They don't treat their guests very well.

I did not expect the owners to treat me and my wife like honored guests in their own home, but that's how it is. Very interesting husband and wife team who are very skilled at making a rich experience and tailoring the visit to your interests. The coolest part of the stay for me were the happy hours that Dave hosted. We had a lot of fun swapping stories with Dave and other guests who were also up for some good drinks. Breakfast was also pretty awesome. The manor is a beautiful campus that exceeds the verbal description and pictures. Lots of richness in the back story can be gleaned from conversation with Dave. To be honest, we werent looking for a bed and breakfast or a resort like retreat since we came to do some hiking, do some leaf peeping, and do some tourist stuff with a friend. By the time check out came around, we wished we budgeted more time relaxing at the manor. Definitely plan to book here again next time we do a Wisconsin vacation.

The grounds were peaceful and full of hidden surprises. The owner's Dave and Trudy were so much fun! They helped us pick and make reservations at an amazing supper club and local brewery. The breakfast was great too! Dave was always happy to take photos for us and fill our wine glasses too! Both Dave and Trudy kept us laughing all weekend long. I stayed in the Birds Nest room. It was very charming and well appointed. I loved the binoculars that were in all the rooms so you could watch the birds and other wild life on the grounds. There was also a hydro spa tube in the private bathroom which was so relaxing. Overall a fabulous place for a getaway! This was an amazing girls weekend! We are planning on returning next year!

We stayed for a long weekend, and and it was the perfect location to get away. The rooms are all themed so when you call to reserve you can pick from the rooms they have available. We stayed in Unit 2, the Devil's Lake room which had photos of Devil's lake. The room included a mini refrigerator, coffee and tea, and alarm clock if needed. Right outside your door they have chairs and tables for enjoying the beautiful weather. They also have grills and an area for bonfires. I was only able to go to the communal area/lobby for the first morning as it was soon closed as they were started to do contactless check in/out. But it seems as though in less COVID-y times they have some coffee or tea there, light breakfast items like mini muffins or breakfast bars and fruit. They also had a communal puzzle and board games. Overall the place is super cozy, perfectly situated for a relaxing vacation with a number of restaurants and small shops to visit in Baraboo.

I wish I could have stayed here when I went to the Dells on my mini vacation only a few short weeks ago but this time I'm here on business. Checking in was easy there's plenty of parking here as well and the hotel features plenty of great amenities like a decent size pool, hot tub and newer workout equipment in the fitness gym. There's even a little business center though I didn't have time to visit it. They got a bar but it's very limited and I recommend not checking it out unless you don't want to drive anywhere or walk across the street. The rooms were in good condition though some parts are in need of remodeling. The ceiling fan in the bathroom was very loud and I felt like it was going to catch fire just because of the noise was making. The staff at the front desk wouldn't tell me how much incidentals were which kind of confused me. Breakfast was okay for the most part but again it had much better amenities compared to the last Best Western I was at in the Dells only 20 minutes north of here. There's plenty of things to do in walking distance as well such as walking to the bar or even walking to the nearby gas station if you're short on amenities that the gas station probably doesn't have or if you want a cheaper drink then what the bar would ask you for. Truly is a 3.5 star place. Very budget friendly would recommend
