We absolutely love Neighbors! My husband and I are first time parents so of course that comes with…read moremany questions and concerns. From day one our provider here has been nothing but supportive, friendly and respectful of our wishes. When we are uncertain about things he takes his time to educate us and leaves us with the tools to form our own opinions and decisions. I have never once felt unheard or pressured into anything here at the clinic. I do appreciate how thorough our doctor was at the very beginning with our baby as we struggled with a few issues. Thank you everyone at the office to ensure our visits are always positive. Kudos to this remarkable team!

The reason I am giving this practice 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the treatment my family…read morereceived from Danielle Poole, RMA, during our most recent visit. Her behavior was noticeably rude and made an already stressful appointment even more difficult. As a nurse and healthcare leader within MUSC, I understand that healthcare professionals have demanding jobs. However, I was disappointed by the lack of empathy, compassion, and professionalism that was displayed, particularly when caring for young children and interacting with concerned parents. When I asked why a hemoglobin test was necessary, my intention was simply to understand whether a finger stick could be avoided for my already distressed 12-month-old. Rather than providing an explanation or acknowledging my concern, I was told, "I don't know, every baby gets it done at 12 months." The response felt dismissive, and her demeanor suggested that my question was unreasonable, despite it being a straightforward request for information about my child's care. Later, I requested a copy of my son's vaccination records because he was preparing to start daycare. After receiving the records, I asked whether the vaccines administered during that day's visit had been included. In response, she appeared irritated and replied, "I just told you they are updated records." Again, the interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive. Most concerning was the complete lack of compassion shown toward my son while he was visibly upset during the finger stick and vaccinations. Pediatric care requires not only clinical competence but also patience, kindness, and reassurance for both children and their parents. Prior to this visit, I have had consistently positive experiences with Neighbors Pediatrics and have always appreciated the care provided by the clinical staff and providers. Unfortunately, this encounter stood in stark contrast to those experiences and left a lasting negative impression. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that future families do not have a similar experience.

We were seen by Dr. Eliza Varadi, the owner of the practice. Before our daughter's first appointment at 4 days old, we filled out all of the patient paperwork. When we checked in, the front desk staff could not find our submission despite us receiving the confirmation email. The front desk staff asked us to fill it out again. Between their request and us being seen by the nurse and the doctor (while also feeding/changing our newborn), there certainly was not enough time to fill out the lengthy form in its entirety. The front desk staff member barges in (without knocking) when we are with the doctor asking if we had filled out the form yet. Turns out, they had spelled the last name incorrectly and that was why they couldn't find the submission. Beyond this example, we have generally found the front desk staff to be rude. If this was the only thing, it was annoying but not enough to prompt us to leave. In that first appointment with the doctor, we obviously had tons of questions (this is our first child). After my wife asked her questions, I chimed in and was promptly cut off by the doctor. My presence was mostly ignored, and I generally felt disrespected. In a subsequent appointment, the nurse came in first and then had us get our daughter dressed. Our baby was dressed when the doctor came in and looked at her, however she said twice before leaving, "You can get your baby dressed now". It seemed like she was not paying attention at all, or had so much on her plate that she was already mentally onto the next patient. Our daughter had slow weight gain, so we had several appointments just for weight checks. We had one appointment right at 8:30am when they opened, and waited close to an hour to be seen for what should have been a very quick appointment. The first appointment of the day shouldn't be double/triple booked! The final straw was when we had questions about vaccinations. We wanted to get all of the vaccinations, but have them spaced out by a few weeks so that she wouldn't receive all 4 in one day. The doctor told us that she wouldn't recommend it because she may contract whatever it was that she wasn't getting vaccinated against in those few weeks. She also said that they might accidentally "overvaccinate" her, or give her the same vaccinations twice. "Overvaccination" should not be an issue if you have an adequate record-keeping system. Although we didn't love this answer, we went to schedule her vaccinations at the 2 month mark. Turns out that they didn't have any appointments available until she was closer to 3 months. When we decided to find a new pediatrician and asked to have our records sent over, it took three separate follow-ups to have the records sent over. We have since found a pediatrician that doesn't make us feel rushed, kindly answers any/all of our questions and makes us feel like valued patients. Maybe our experience is not the norm, but new parents should know what they may be signing up for when they choose a doctor for their child.

With the loss of these doctors, this practice has steadily declined over the years. thankfully as my kids get older, the less we need a doctor. Today, I needed to schedule a follow up appt for my son who was in a major car accident. When calling there have been over 30 callers ahead of us so we have waited only to be disconnected after waiting for 30 minutes each time. This has happened 4 times now and I am currently still on hold waiting for the 5th time with 19 callers ahead of me. I have wasted over 2 hours trying desperately to make an appt with our doctor and still can't get through to anyone online or on the phone. This has been unbelievable for a doctors office. I am currently shopping for a new doctor for my children.
