This is a classic Ten Pin Bowling experience. There's nothing here that's going to surprise you,…read morebut at the same time there's nothing you could reasonably hope to find at a tenpin bowling alley, that isn't offered here. The basics include 26 bowling lanes and 14 pool tables including both American and English tables, which I don't even understand. They have a full bar (crucial) and an American style dodgy diner where you can get a burger and some greasy chips, the perfect accompaniment to a game of ten pin. They also offer something called 'Cosmic Bowling' where all the lights go out and the whole room and all the lanes turn luminous blue with disco lights and spotlights flying around. Wooooooooo. It claims to be bowling with a nightclub atmosphere, which it really is not. But if you want to bowl with loud music and flashing lights then by all means give it a go! There's also a Quazar Lazer shooty gun thingymajog, but that's a whole different game isn't it. I'll stick to the bowling.

For me, going bowling is an excuse to get dressed up in a fancy fifties frock and pretend I'm in…read moreGrease 2. So, even though I'm a terrible bowler, I love it! When a few of us decide to go, we usually end up at this massive Ten Pin in Didsbury's Parrs Wood complex, mainly because you can get a really good deal if you book ahead online. As you bowl on one of the alley's many lanes, you can have a shimmy to the weird 90s pop videos that play on the screens above. You can also give yourself a bit of Dutch courage by visiting the bar, which offers 4-pint pitchers of Strongbow and Carling. Be warned though, too much will make poor bowling skills even ropier!

And what a place it is. The food is decent pub grub (the burner burger jammed with jalepenos and cheese is a sure-fire hangover cure), the atmosphere local and lively (especially on match days) and the staff are great. In fact, this wholly unpretentious little gem it would be a full-on five star except for the fact that the beer (usually Landlord/Hobgoblin) can be pretty hit and miss. It's divided into two main areas: the main bar and the smarter back room that recently received a lick of paint and some new sofas. The old pool table has gone, but happily the multiple screens are still around - this is a pub that really revels in its sports pub status. The BG is run by an Irish guy, and while not explicitly an Irish pub, the multiple screens often show Irish sports alongside Premier League fixtures, rugby games etc - they're pretty good at letting you now what they're showing via Facebook.

Too bad they don't seem to do the chicken curry with half rice half chips any more - that was tops. Order the Sunday roast or the steak and ale pie and you won't need to eat for a week afterwards:)

A very large cinema in Manchester city centre, this cinema was previously operated by ODEON, until…read morethey were forced to sell the cinema to rivals, VUE, who now operate the cinema. This location is HUGE - 23 screens, 4,723 seats, and one of the largest IMAX screens in Europe, The cinema is over multiple floors, and the layout can be a little confusing, the staff seem friendly enough and on guard to help. If you require lift access, you will require a staff member to help you with this as they are NOT customer operated. Escalators are available without the help of a staff member. There are lots of screens to pick up and purchase tickets, and there is normally at least one person on the manned desks if you want to use as little technology as possible to get your tickets. There are often cheaper screenings, costing around £4.99 per person, so it is reasonable and affordable, combined with the many offers available from many third-party companies including banks and insurance companies, who offer discounted cinema tickets. Snacks are expensive, but what cinema doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the slightest bite to eat? Not much has changed since the ODEON days, the main difference is the branding around the cinema, some parts could do with a refurb but still a nice, large cinema in a great central city location. 4*
