The Printworks is a cool entertainment complex in Manchester city centre, it is home to a large number of restaurants including Hard Rock Cafe, Nando's and Chiquito, there is also a couple of bars/pubs including Wetherspoons, and a VUE cinema with IMAX. It is located in a large, old building which does look good in the city centre, the inside is a little dark but that's part of the quirk behind The Printworks. There's always a large security presence, probably down to the bars/nightlife atmosphere here, with multiple entrances. It is across the way from Manchester Arndale and Victoria Station, so it can get pretty busy! It is a shame to see many businesses close here during the years, they have tried their best to re-occupy the vacant units to the point where it doesn't feel empty. 4* read more

Dear lord, where do I start... okay, I shall begin by dividing the Printworks into a list of pros and cons to show just how divided one can be upon a visit here. Pros Wasabi, Wagamama, Nando's, great cinema, Henry J Beans and Hard Rock Café for junk food and cocktails, Papa G's, a little fish and chip shop, a newsagent that's open until stupidly late Cons Hen parties, Waxy O' Connors at the weekends, Opus, hen parties, Opus, Pure, Café Rouge, shaven-headed oiks in shiny shirts, hen parties, Opus, over-zealous security guards, coming out of the cinema sober when everyone around you is drunk, Opus. The Printworks looks impressive, we can't deny it. It's interestingly put together, if a little Trafford Centre-esque fake. It's meant to be a Mecca of entertainment but the fact that so many of its clientele are less than discerning kind of puts a dampener on it for me, so I pretty much duck, dive in, get the stuff out of it that I want and ignore everything else. I adore the cinema here and always feel weird going to any other one so I have to keep coming back. At least with Wagamama you don't actually have to enter the Printworks itself to pull up a bench and slurp some nice noodles. I Came here in the summer to see a free starwars convention. being quite a big starwars fan! It had lots of people who took the time and effort to dress up in some really good costumes, there were lots of people walking around and you could have your photo taken with darthvader or a number of boba fetts. chewbacca was a favorite with most people as you had to wait in a queue to take a pictue with him. my favorite was R2-D2 there.must of been someone in there ! They also had lots of starwars memorabilia of magazines and figure. It was a great free hour to take your kids or big kids if you were passing by and am sure i will go again read more

The Printworks is the whole roofed "entertainment complex", the bright lights of which really come into their own at night. In the day, if you are going to the Odeon it has a strange feel to it and I would only recommend eating in the restaurants that look out onto the street, such as Cafe Rouge and the Hard Rock Cafe. If you are new to Manchester, it is a great place to start as here you have a fair amount of restaurants, bars and clubs right next door to each other. Late at night at the weekend, there will be hoardes of people queuing to get in the clubs and otherwise there will be people milling around. That said, it mainly comprises well known names that you can find elsewhere: Wagamama, Nando's, Tiger Tiger. The Odeon has the advantage of big screens, and lots of them. Go on a weekday for an affordable cinema ticket. For less well known films, they take them off after a few weeks if the screens aren't filling up (even films like 'W') so get in early. read more

The printworks, a central for all things erm fake n kind of crappy. Rammed full of clubs and restaurants with varying philosophies. The bars are typically tacky and not my scene. But printworks has a few nice spots for example wagamama and the cinema which is crazy massive, it's a stupid amount of screens over so many floors, as well as that they also have a pair (I think) of 3-Ds cinema screens, these are bigger then all the big stuff crammed into central Manchester. You walk in and the screen dominates half the room, the other half is made up of harshly stacked seating that make your cinema experience feel more like a coliseum in the roman times, thats pretty awesome. They also have a really nice hard rock cafe with lots of crazy crap all over the walls. But when you don't consider these notes I can't think of masses that would get me visiting printworks. read more

Ahh, The Printworks. Most of the time it's ok here. There's a great Odeon with loads of screens and some nice mainstream restaurants like Café Rouge and Wagamamas. If you're looking to watch some football at the weekend and can't think of where to go in town, then the pubs in the Printworks always seem to be showing the games. Generally, the Printworks is a good place to go if you want to have a nice, mainstream, uneventful time. But I would seriously advise avoiding it at night. Like the others have said, it's absolute carnage at kicking out time. Just horrifically under-dressed girls who have just been sick into their shoe eating kebab whilst smoking a cigarette and kissing a spotty chav who's nicking her purse at the same time. Really, it's quite terrifying and mentally scarring. Especially when you're sober and hundreds of people around you are wasted. Avoid it at these times! read more

These are the things I like about the Printworks: - Odeon. It's a good cinema, if a little pricey, and more likely to have talkers (grrr). Still, good cinema, which occasionally surprises you by showing less mainstream stuff. - Wagas. Nuff said. - Nandos. Nuff bloody said. - Wasabi. Nuff freakin' said. - The little newsy's kiosk, a good place to grab a pre-film Ribena if you don't fancy a £5 gallon o' soda. These are the things I do not like about the Printworks: - Cafe Rouge, which is never as good as you want it to be, and charges you a bloody wad for what is essentially rubbish food. - On weekends, if you're coming out of a film after about 10pm, you will, I repeat, WILL be faced with a hundred scantily-clad femmes in ridiculous heels, drunk as skunks and falling over and shouting. You will consciously avoid eye-contact, for fear of being in a girl-fight. If you come out of a film after 11pm, there will be shoeless girls, crying girls and just-been-sick girls. It's just depressing. - The men are generally tossers, and if in groups bigger than 3, will leer and shout at any female, even if she's clearly with her beau. - Venues that aren't Nandos, Wagas or Wasabi. They're all crap, and Pure will make you want to die. Overall, Printworks is great during the day, but at night time it's a scary nylon-clad zoo of blue WKD and Ben Sherman. The Printworks is made up of restaurants and bars as well as an ODEON cinema and Gym. Here is where you'll find Hard Rock Cafe, Chiquito's, Harvester and lots of other restaurants. Anyone remember when The Printworks wasn't The Printworks? Pointless question, but I can no longer remember what used to reside there. All I know now is, that there is a makeshift alleyway with lots of stuff spidered off of it, stuff being a cinema, restaurants, bars, clubs and the like. The Printworks is definitely one of those places that is deemed alright in the day and almost advisable to avoid at night, especially on a weekend. The scantily clad perspex heels crew with their stripey t shirt boyfriend crew types tend to populate the area surrounding Printworks, and whilst I've never had much trouble personally, there's always been the potential for it brewing all around, this all gets a bit amplified the later the night gets and the more alcohol fuelled the patrons become. Being in such close proximity to Victoria Station and subsequently the MEN Arena, on concert nights, The Printworks seems like a grand idea to kill some time before your gig starts, but it seems that with a venue at 15,000 capacity, many others have this idea too, and everything is absolutely heaving, no word of a lie queues up the stairs to Nandos, I know it's good, but queuing up the stairs is where you have to draw the line. Printworks by day is a different matter, it's pleasant to breeze through, and you get your pick of the restaurants, and getting into the cinema isn't a problem, oh and it's home to IMAX, and now IMAX 3D which is just freaking awesome! and as the day turns into early evening, the bars are lightly buzzing without getting crazy rowdy. read more

Ok, so I have a love-hate relationship with Printworks -- I have several reasons to love it and equal number for reasons for the extreme other. I am a fan of Odeon because I love movies, though I have to admit I am more of a Cornerhouse and AMC girl but then there are some big budget Hollywood films which you just need to watch at IMAX! And Odeon screens some of the popular Bollywood films as well (not all of them are about people dancing in colorful clothes, trust me!) which is good because I get to find out what is happening in my lovely country! I am a big Hard Rock Cafe fan too even though this one is a bit disappointing when it comes to live music but nevertheless I just like their burgers and rock music -- takes me back to my teen days. Wasabi and Wagamama are two places I can just go everyday and not be bored, I have a theory there are two kinds of people -- sushi lovers and non-sushi lovers and I tend to get along with the former! And how can I even forget Nandos -- ahhh the tender chicken, the pri pri sauce and the creamy mash...mmmmmm Now lets get to the part which puts me off completely--- Teenage girls wearing shorts which shows their bum cheeks, Men with V neck, tight teeshirts and shiny hair, Hen Parties, Rude Mancunians and the bouncers of all the clubs inside who think they own the world! Well, the clubs inside printworks must have been incredible when it started but now the standards have definitely fallen more than regular! Definitely not my cup of tea (read glass of wine). From cinemas through international restaurants, bars, discobars to spa and leisure centre. My favourite is HardRock Cafe, Cafe Rouge, Odeon and so... On one hand, it is an amazing building, and I enjoy visiting the Odeon cinema, Nando's and Wagamama. It's indoors, so you don't get wet, and the cash machine is now free to use. On the other hand, it could be so much more diverse. I would never consider coming here for a night out due to the narrow range of pubs and clubs which all attract the same crowd. Even walking through here on a Friday or Saturday night is bad enough. It is a difficult task trying to circumnavigate wasted stag and hen parties and people dressed in neon leg warmers. Expensive. Over Crowded, but what a selection of bars, cafes & restaurants!!! Decided to give this place a try one Friday night with a friend who was down from Preston. We needed up walking through trying to decide where to eat, as their was a great selection of places to eat and drink. We ended up doing drinks at the 'spoons and it wasn't half bad. Cheap, and crowded more than a mini with 11 clowns in it! Even with this amount of people, we were still able to find a seat and it was very enjoyable. We got a few nibbles and drank the night away. I would certainly come back mid week, when hopefully their is less people. However, even if there is the same amount of people, I'll give it a go! read more

Pros: Whatever you want on a night out you can get in just one small area with a wide selection of restaurants and bars. Also there is the Virgin Active gym and a cinema. Lots of different types of food can be eaten such as crocodile in the Old Orleans restaurant. Or maybe go mad on chicken at Nandos. After all that you can dance it all off at one of the clubs such as Pure or Opus. Both clubs play different types of music depending on which "floor" you are on. Obviously, fantastic as a meeting point. Everyone in Manchester I spoke too knows where the Printworks are. There's a wide choice of venues in there to spend your time - the Hard Rock, Waxy O'Connors, Chiquito, Norwegian Blue - one of them must float your boat. It seems like it would be the kind of place that gets really busy and rowdy later at night, so if that's your kind of thing, head on down here. I was there early evening and it was just starting to pick up. A happening hub in Manchester and great meeting point, the Printworks is cool as a cucumber inside and also DRY (I visited on a day where it rained for about 10 hours straight). It's busy, packed full of certain types of people, hen parties, fancy dress, tantastic people, very intoxicated people. They're having a good time, but if you aren't one of them, you probably aren't. I avoid Printworks at all costs. I don't go to the Odeon and I can find other branches of the restaurants in here elsewhere and if I can't then it's best kept locked away for me in Printworks then. I once went to Opus and Pure and just drowned myself in drink to forget where I was. Awful music I cannot stand. The Printworks has something for everyone. Lots of bars and clubs and places to eat. There's cheap and cheerful too like Lloyds which is part of the Wetherspoons group. Its always busy in there so you may have to wait. There's also a cinema and IMAX 3D cinema. If you like Chinese then Yum Yums which is upstairs is great, all you can eat for a bargain price. Sit near the windows and it's great for people watching down below. Don't forget the architecture, the building itself is fantastic and a monument to the Victorian builders of the time. read more

The Printworks is like no other place in Manchester everything that is entertaining is under one roof. From restaurants such as Nandos, Hard Rock Café and Wagamama; to a massive Odeon cinema; to nightclubs like Pure and Tiger Tiger. It is literally over the road from the Manchester Arndale, Selfridges and the Big Wheel and not too far from the rest of the city centre's attractions. It is also a moments walk from Victoria Train Station and Shudehill Tram Stop. It is well worth stopping by here for lunch or an evening meal whilst shopping in the centre. I love the Printworks! The first time I really went out here, I couldn't believe how much was housed in this one building tonnes of bars, restaurants, nightclubs and even a cinema! It's huge! You wouldn't imagine so much could fit in here! The Printworks is so close to everything else in Manchester too, which makes it ideal. It's literally opposite the Arndale , so it's perfect for a day's shopping and then a meal or a night out. The nearest train station is Victoria, and the nearest tram stop is Shudehill. Despite this, it's still only five minutes walk from Piccadilly Gardens, and about ten minutes from Piccadilly Train Station. read more

The Printworks is an awful place. It's too expensive, tacky and lame. I was actually shocked in one of the bars hearing that they don't do pints! It's also dangerous at night and you'll most likely end up with a glass on your head for looking at someones bird. If you want a real Manchester night out go to other places. read more

Large complex of shops, clubs, restaurants and the cinema complex. The layout is bit bizarre, and seems impossible to find any staff to help point you in the right direction so you end up just wandering about a little aimlessly until you've been often enough to know where you goingand then watch everyone else wander about aimlessly! The hard rock cafe, and the Imax theatre are probably the best wellknown parts of the printworks. The Imax brings in people from all over the north west to see the latest blockbuster on a huge screen, which is an experience to be reckoned with. the sound qaulity in the imax screens is also fantastic! The shops and boutiques are well worth a look through, but in general i find the printworks a bit of an odd experienceit doesn't quite all gel together. There are lots of taxis, but as night sets in these start to deplete as more and more groups of drinkers descend on the printworks read more

The print works is a mixed cusine and cinema, it is dark inside and a bit strange dont let it put you off. You can get a meal here be it chinese, american or italian worth visiting.If you dont like any of the resturants you must be fussy. It is a ten minute walk from the metro stop at piccadilly gardens. if you go before christmas you could visit the christmas markets. The place is a good treat you can enjoy at the end of shopping, or as a nite out. In the day we went with our children the cafes are family friendly, im not sure it is suitable of the evening. read more

The Odeon cinema is a multi screen cinema and shows a wide range of films. It also has an IMAX supersized screen which shows selected movies such as Superman. The cinema is modern and comfortable with good sound quality. As well as the cinema there are plenty of places to eat and drink such as the Manchester Hard Rock cafe. The Printworks gives a very negative first impression to unsuspecting drinkers and clubbers alike. Ask any taxi driver where is good for bars and 9 times out of 10 they will say Printworks. But the fact of the matter is its total rubbish! All of the bars are completely packed with the type of people who want to drink lots as fast as possible for as little money as possible. Its also rough as a badgers behind, if you know what I mean. There are so many great places to go in Manchester, the only reason I can think to go to the Printworks is for the Cinema, or if its raining while you wait for your taxi home! The atmosphere is nice but it's a cold place as the path is cobbled. The printworks is great if you are in the city center of Manchester late at night as some of the bars in there have a very late license. As well as having an Odean cinema inside with an IMAX screen, there are also loads of places for eating and drinking. There always seems to be a good atmosphere when ever you go inside the printworks. Some of the atmosphere is probably down to the incredible structure of the building with its enourmously high roof. Its a very lively night not always for the good it can get quite rowdy here and the bouncers dont seem to know when a club has reached its max and keep letting people in so your sandwiched and cant move much. the prices are alright not the best but it can be a good night, student nights are great and are really quite cheap. i havnt tried the cinema or places to eat only the clubs and i have to say i wouldnt return in a hurry read more

The staff were honest and very helpful when I asked about waiting time for a table. The food is delicious and well worth the wait as the portions served Definetley make me feel like I've got my money's worth. I agree with wink1983 - a very strange place, am not sure what they were thinking when they built it. There is a cinema, bars, restaurants and clubs based around an L shaped undercover "street". I think its supposed to be modelled on a New York street or something, but it looks kind of tacky and lame. And these days it seems to attract the big single sex groups that can make Manchester a bit horrible on the weekend. The Ink Brasserie in the Pure bar/club/restaurant bit is actually a nice restaurant, the cinema is good and it has a good Wagamamas, but personally I would only visit these on a weekday evening or during the day.
