ICE! at Gaylord Palms Resort - impressive ice sculptures

I have mixed feelings about ICE! The hard work that the…read moreartists put into carving and decorating is truly mind blowing. I really appreciate everything that they do and the time that it takes. I'm not a fan of waiting in long lines, and this always seems to have a lot of lines and in multiple places. It's really hard to get good photos of your group or the ice because of how many people are walking around. No one seems to be cognizant of others' and it gets frustrating. Not the fault of the ICE! group, but just a comment. I've only done this experience twice in ten years and am fine to keep it that way. Really great idea and beautiful crafting, but a lot of work (parking, lines, people, it's freezing).

I walked in confident and walked out with a new respect for scarves. This year's theme is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and the ice art is genuinely stunning. Massive, colorful, masterfully carved scenes that make you forget you are standing in what feels like a very festive freezer. The craftsmanship is impressive enough that even while your nose is going numb, you still stop and say wow out loud. The line moved smoothly, which is no small miracle when you are dressed like a penguin and questioning your circulation. Once inside, everything was well run and easy to enjoy. It is a great afternoon experience for all ages. Kids love it. Adults love it. Even Jack Frost would probably nod in approval. Do not skip the hot cocoa afterward. It is not optional. It is survival. That first warm sip feels like your body rebooting. Overall, a solid four stars. If Yelp allowed 4 and a half, this would absolutely earn it. Beautiful, well organized, and cold enough to make you grateful for the Florida sun waiting outside.

My family and I absolutely love Shades of Green! We have been there probably over thirty times over…read morethe last few years. We were prior Disney annual pass members (5 years in a row) but recently did not renew the membership but still visit Shades at least once or twice year now versus some years ~8-10 times a year as pass holder members. History: Shades of Green originally opened as a Disney-owned resort known as the Golf Resort in December 1973 with 151 rooms. The Golf Resort was in the middle of the Palm and Magnolia golf courses. The resort was built of wood and volcanic rock in the style of a country club. The core building of the resort was opened in 1971 as a two-story clubhouse for the golf courses and did not actually have guest rooms. Food: They have several food options at the resort including Garden Gallery, Mangino's, Evergreens, Express Café, Java Café, and Room Service options. Honestly, they are all good. For Mangino's, try their ribeye steak for dinner. Evergreens, their whole pizzas are a deal and their drinks are great (margaritas and IPAs). For Garden Gallery, they have breakfast buffet which is excellent and have made to order omelets. The best food option is their Thanksgiving Feast, which we have tried 3 times so far (2025, 2023, and 2020). Service: Everyone we have interacted with are all extremely nice. This place reminds us of being on a military base, where respect, courteousness, and professionalism are often present. I don't recall any incidents where we encountered any issues from any of their staff. Room: Their rooms are much larger than a lot of Disney resorts and Shades of Green is considered a moderate Disney resort. We stayed in most of their room types, from their standard room, pool room, to their largest room, The Magnolia Suite. Our favorite is their Magnolia Suite, which has two separate rooms with two queen beds each, connected to a large living room, full kitchen, dining room, and a large laundry room. This suite is huge and probably spans across 4 standard rooms, plenty of space for a large family or friends gathering. Ambiance: Very large, clean, and nice resort. Located right across the street from Disney Polynesian Resort, convenient to the Ticket Transportation Center and the Disney Monorail. Surrounded by golf courses, beautiful wildlife, and animals, such as deer, birds, and alligators.
