It is great to take the children for a couple of hours to run about and let of some steam. It only cost £3.75 for admission and under ones go free. They have ample car parking spaces and also there is a cafe inside so the adult can relax with a coffee and a bite to eat while the children play. Highly recommend taking your children to this as mine love it.

Fortunately I've got an official looking doctors note to state I must never enter the premises, so it's rare I have to make the pilgrimage. Wacky is a word which needs tying up in an Asda bin bag and dropped along into a stretch of the Irwell. Perhaps they should start with changing the names (and ridiculous graphics) and have a complete overhaul of the business. It is the pre-eminent kids plays centre in the uk, but I'm assuming that's down to the lack of competition. I always get hit in the face bits with an aroma of junior wee and shake n vac when I have the misfortune to find myself destined to shave years off my life sitting inside these 'fun palaces'. The kids obviously love them (which I suppose is entirely the point), although it's not unusual to spot bouts of ball wars (in the ball park) and the kids try and pelt the colourful, spherical missiles towards each others necks and eyes resulting in salt water seeping from said eyes.it's just that they could make the effort to entertain the adults a little bit more - decent scran and good coffee and a set of newspaper would be a start. As you might expect, it has all the usual play facilities for younger kids to burn off some energy -- slides, climbing frames and so on. However it doesn't have a climbing wall, which may disappoint some! It's not a bad place for children's parties, although the food wouldn't score too highly in the healthy eating stakes. These sorts of places do tend to be quite expensive, and I'm afraid On Safari is no exception. All in all, it's not a bad example of its type.

This is one of Bolton's most popular parks -- apparently there are over half a million visits a…read moreyear here. It's also one of Bolton's biggest, covering over 34 hectares. There are plenty of things to do -- a limited miniature railway offers train rides in the summer, there are some pleasant gardens (although they never seem to be in tip-top shape) and there is also an Animal World and Butterfly House -- effectively a free zoo! The kids' playground has kept our two (aged 3 and 5) amused for many an hour over the years. Parking is a bit limited -- if you can't get in the first car park there's a lesser-known one round the back (follow the road round to Barrow Bridge, a pretty little village worth a visit in its own right). All in all, a great place for the kids to let off steam.
