Poor customer service by the owner, I presume. I was shopping and being helped by the woman on the…read morefloor. I made a phone call and was repeating out loud the items the person on the phone was telling me I should get. I remember one being an item the woman helping me said was kept behind the counter. I simply said "Ok" and continued to grab what was on the floor. The man at the counter heard me on the phone repeating what I was told to get and took it upon himself to ring up the item that was behind the counter. (I was wondering why my total was so high but I didn't take the time to look in the bag or ask him to run to through everything. Big mistake.) When I got home and looked at the receipt I noticed a $36.99 item on it. Looked in the bag and saw a tiny bottle of product (Bold Hold) and realized it was what the lady said was behind the counter. I took the item back, as I did not ask for it, and was told I could not return or exchange it. The man told me "I heard you on the phone over there say you needed it" and asked how could he ring it up if I didn't tell him to do so. That's my question, sir! I said I don't even know what it is. He briefly explained what it was. Nothing I needed or wanted. I asked to exchange it for something I would actually use, totally giving up on the refund. No. He refused to break his policy (which he the pointed out on a top shelf, near the ceiling, behind the counter and merchandise, on a handwritten faded sign) and said that it would cause too many problems. I kindly asked how as it wasn't even opened. He was visibly irritated/annoyed. He refused to accept my plea. $36.99 for a product the company themselves sells for $19.99. By the way, he said it's none of his business what that company does and it was wrong for me to even ask why they mark theirs up so high. I told him he lost a customer. Be mindful of what is being rung up and look high up to your left behind the counter for their return policy.

It has been a while since I have been in a Cato. Actually, 15 years. Well, I went in here on the…read moreway to Office Depot, and it was great. All the clothes and accessories are organized and clean. Even the clearance clothes have all of the same items hung together, and then sorted by size. Clothes and constrtare not greatll, but also ok. Lots of polyester. Fabrics are thick enough to be not-see-through. Maybe not tailored, but they have changing rooms so you can try it on. Something I feel is great, is that everything had prices marked accurately. That sounds like something that would be a given, but it is not. Walmart does not post prices, and wants you to scan each thing with the app (while on store wifi and while logged in so they can spy on you), and store like Five Below just do not post a price and you are supposed to deal with it. Cato had the prices all posted, and when I check out everything was accurate. Including clearance, where they had put the new price on each tag by crossing out the old one and putting the new one on. This store is all about straight talk. Lots of deals to be had. They had cute sweater dresses and coats for winter. And a clearance rack with costume jewelry and sunglasses, and I stocked up to give to kids at birthday parties when my girls (ages 5 and 7) get invites, because putting a statement necklace or sunglasses in a gift bag with the main gift is fun for kids. They also will wrap each thing separately, like in a tissue, so nothing gets damaged. Basically, a clean organized clothes store with all the prices posted accurately and all the clothes sorted by style and size, so it is easy to shop fast and be in and out fast.

I was desperate looking for an alterations shop to sew a patch on a beret for my stepfather's funeral later that day. There was nobody from Savannah to Statesboro that was either open, or was willing to do this on such short notice. I stumbled upon The Embroidery Shoppe's phone number in the phone book and as a last ditch effort called them to see if they'd be willing to sew this patch on. I spoke with Christy and she said it's not what they usually do but to come down and she'd help me figure this out. I went down to the shop, and Christy sewed the patch on in a matter of minutes. She was such a lifesaver, and so friendly and helpful. I grew up in Brooklet, but moved to the West Coast when I was 18, so Southern Hospitality is something I really miss. I experienced Southern Hospitality at it's finest with my experience at The Embroidery Shoppe. I can't say enough about this little place.
