Not by choice but this is our 4th childcare facility for our 3 year old. We have to say that she has loved this one the most and we are so grateful to the teachers (especially Ms. Mariza and Ms. Jas) and staff for taking such great care of our girl. We feel incredibly lucky to have found Pasadena Christian School for our daughters. Choosing a preschool can feel overwhelming, but this one has exceeded our expectations in so many ways. What stands out most is the warmth and intentionality of the teachers--They take the time to really know each child and meet them where they are, which has made such a difference for our daughters' confidence and happiness. Our daughter has attended her first year at PCS. She loves all of her teachers and the staff know her by name. We love that the school provides chapel worship, and we often hear our daughter sing the praise songs she learned on the way home. We have been with Pasadena Christian Preschool for two years and absolutely love it. Like most parents in our community, we also toured all the best preschools in the area. There are indeed many great options available, however, the school MUST compliment your child's learning style and personal and emotional needs. This school has been undoubtedly the best choice for our daughter. First of all, we ALWAYS spend time in prayer before making any important family decisions. We are confident that God has a plan and a purpose for her life, which includes where she goes to school. We applied to many of the top schools in the area, and gained admittance into several. Despite all the great offerings available at the other schools, Pasadena Christian was God's choice for us. Of this we are absolutely certain. In our experience, the teachers are genuine people who are not just going to work everyday... they are responsible for shaping the hearts and minds of our children. Of course no one is perfect, however, I feel confident that our daughter is being cared for and taught in a nurturing environment by professionals who are accountable to both the administration and God. And, she is not just a number or a faceless child on the student roster either. They really care about her well-being. We have observed tremendous growth and development in our daughter since joining the school family. Her teachers have done a great job of teaching her in a manner that is natural, unforced and fun. She is learning new things everyday without even knowing it. This is especially important for her since she is very strong willed and doesn't respond well to worksheets or memorization exercises. Among her favorite activities include time spent in the art studio, and outdoor classroom where she is free to explore water, make music, garden, engage in imaginative play, and develop large gross motor skills through various physical activities. We are more certain of our decision in choosing PCS everyday. Her education to date has focused on the whole child, and she is more than ready to enter kindergarten. The fact that she is learning about God everyday, and compelled to pray for her peers when they're out sick is a plus! My son attended this preschool for 1 year prior to kindergarten. Our plan was to then continue on to their elementary school. However that was not the case as we found the environment not inclusive, cliquish and had children who knew how to work the system. Apologize for intentional mean behavior and all is well. Our son remembers this year as the "worst" time of his schooling. Our son is very academically inclined and this preschool was not conducive to critical thinking and true expression of emotion. Teaching children to verbalize thoughts and feelings was not valued. We met with the director often- She was condescending and clearly did not know our son. Since then he has moved on to another private elementary school and has earned high grades and accolades for citizenship. I will give this school credit that the curriculum was good and did provide our son with nice introduction to numeracy. read more

The teachers are great! The front office woman (the older one) falls under the category of rude and unwelcoming. This is the only reason for not a 5 star rating. This is a shame because the person when you first enter ANY establishment should be welcoming as they set the tone of the establishment- especially when the establishment is one that you are considering to leave your children with.... read more

We spent the better part of a year looking for a preschool for our daughter after a disappointing experience and an extremely well-known "play-based" school in La Canada. After dozens of tours at different schools, we were so thrilled to finally find Pasadena Christian Preschool. We knew the second we walked on-property this was the school for us. Kristin and her entire administrative staff is incredibly warm and responsive. We felt like family the first day we enrolled. Not only did we get answers to all of our questions, we got nearly constant communication from teachers and administration alike throughout the year. The teachers are outstanding, and our daughter thrived with them, greatly surpassing our expectations not only academically but socio-emotionally as well. We had previously been in a "play-based" preschool and found it to be an unstructured free-for-all, but we were turned off by Montessori schools that had children indoors working on letters all day. Pasadena Christian hit exactly in the middle, with a fantastic outdoor classroom and plenty of free-play, but also structured groups and academics, art and science classes. We also loved the inclusion of Christian teachings, and found all staff open and inquisitive, but should note a fair amount of the curriculum is built around scripture, which might make some parents uncomfortable. Our daughter was excited to go to school every day. And we were relieved. Despite the complete lack of structure the previous school had provided, our 4 year-old was solidly kindergarten ready after a year at Pasadena Christian Preschool.The parent community is engaged and inclusive and such a great community. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this preschool to anyone looking for a quality school in Pasadena. read more

My son is starting here in a couple weeks, but we have already been visiting and he is slowly getting to know the teachers there. I have to say I am already really impressed by the facilities and the care they have put into the outdoor classroom. They have so many things for each kid to do, it is like a preschool paradise. There is a play dough station, a train station, a place to play music, a place to play with make believe stuff, a place to ride bikes, a place to play with water, a place to dig with toy bulldozers and trucks. My son actually cried when we had to leave after a few hours of visiting. We are really excited for the new school year. read more

Our daughter has been at Pasadena Christian Preschool for a year and a half now. We could not be more pleased. I am getting around to this review just now because even though we have had a great experience starting with our initial tour, I wanted to make sure that this great experience was stable and consistent over time. And it has been. Several families, including ours, came together a year and a half ago to look for a new daycare/preschool for our children. We had grown weary of our experience at a previous facility. I came to PCS with my guard up pretty high. But after days and months of wonderful, caring, sweet experiences, I've developed a level of deep trust where I can just drop off my daughter in the morning, and I do not have to think twice. She is happy and flourishing in this environment. The director is amazing--she is ALWAYS open to my input, is never defensive, and actually welcomes parent feedback. She is wonderful to work with. The facility is incredible--aesthetically beautiful (both the classrooms and the outdoor space) with so many resources and activities for the children. And the teachers are great--Low staff turnover and can you believe they even have Outdoor Classroom Teachers dedicated to the outdoor play experience!!! I've never even heard of that before!! We are happy at this pre-school and I am so grateful we landed here. read more

I have two children that attend PSC and they LOVE it! They started last year at rooms 4 and 3, and they are now in rooms 3 and 1. Their day is full of age-appropriate activities, and they have different stations throughout the school. I am a working mom and when I pick them at 5, I often wait for them because they don't want to leave, "can we stay for five more minutes, mom?" My son who is in room 1 is learning so much about letters and sounds, but the best part is that he doesn't even know that he is learning--the teachers introduce concepts naturally throughout their day. He can sound out the letters and he is so positive about learning! My daughter comes home singing songs and retelling the stories she read in class. She loves her school so much I have actually used this line, "if you don't listen, you can't go to school" and she listened! I love this school because I have a secure feeling when I am at work that my children is safe and loved. I am interested in their learning, but I am more interested in their well-being. I feel very blessed that my children are attending this school. read more

I just posted a review on the Elementary School Yelp site, now it's the Preschool's turn. I'm so glad that we are back in school at PCS! My daughter (almost 5) had a tough time going back after a summer away; but now she asks to go to school - EARLY! It's about 7 am, and she is ready to roll. She can't wait to see her friends, learn new things, and take home "Butter Ball" - the class hamster, this Oct 26th. My son, who I posted about on the Elementary School page also today, was in this class 2 years ago. He started out in Kindergarten at the "big school;" but by the wise counsel of his teacher, Mrs. French, and the Emerging Needs Director, we had him go back to Pre-K for a bit more emotional readiness. It was a TOUGH decision as a parent. "Do I push (him) forward, or do I let go, and let him set his own learning pace?," was the big question. It took us almost 2 months of gutt-wrenching thinking to make the decision. What I really liked about PCS was the team effort it took to place my son in the right grade. At one meeting we had the Elementary Principal, his Kindergarten Teacher, the Director of the Preschool, and the Director of Emerging Needs - and us two parents. This is what makes this school great. It's a team effort - all for the progress, self-esteem and good of the individual child. Lastly, I'm impressed at what the Preschool did to prepare him for PCS Kindergarten. ... Something he didn't get at his other preschool, I might add. And I HIGHLY recommend the summer Kindergarten Transitional program. It makes a huge difference for kids that are coming to PCS for the first time. And my little girl still is asking me to go to school EARLY! What's up with that?! She's my last one, out of 4. You will not find a more dedicated and knowledgeable Preschool Director, or Principal of Early Education. Kristin Perez is exceptional. She has been a mentor and advisor to me, and has put many outstanding systems of operation, policies and procedures in place for a smooth-running, well organized preschool office. Our son attended PCS last year in Rm 3. We are still impressed with Mr. Tim. (Lead Teacher) He's wonderful with the children. I found him to be full of charisma, sharp and disciplined. It was always a pleasure to be in his presents. Our Son and all of the children LOVED him! Mr. Tim and the assistant teachers Ms Thelma, and Ms Terri consistently impressed me with there patience, self control and control of the children. I feel that our son was encouraged, treated equally, and loved. Now a year later the new school year has begun and we are back for Jr. Kindergarten! I have had a very good experience at PCS Preschool. The teachers are wonderful committed and caring. The facilities are safe and clean. The developmental program exceeded my expectations. I would have given the school a 5 star rating except for one issue. The one glaring issue with the otherwise phenomenal program is the director. Her poor attitude and even worse treatment of staff is inexcusable. Luckily for parents exposure to her is limited. I highly recommend this preschool program. read more

I give the preschool 2 stars only because there are still a few excellent teachers left. Very few. Unfortunately the director of the preschool is so authoritarian, many of the best teachers have left for greener pastures. I had to take both of my children out of the preschool for not only lack of control in the older rooms (room 2 which is a pre-k class) the kids clearly ran the room. But also for the younger room (room 5) where there was too much turn over and total lack of communication. My youngest was already having separation issues, then to have the teachers in and out like a revolving door all year was very concerning. the director is the main cause for these issues as she does not take constructive critisism at all. There is basically no communication to the staff nor the parents of what is going on with the school, what is happening to the teachers, etc. For example, on the first day of school last year, there was a full film crew at the preschool. Apparently there was a "Christian Reality Show" being filmed and they wanted to get the father taking his son to his first day of preschool. NO notification went out to the parents of the preschool. At the least I would have expected a notice for the parents of that room (room 2) tobenotified. When I had asked what was going on,iwas rudely informed that it didn't concern me. It only concerned the kids of room 2. I patiently informed her that my child was in room 2. Only then did I get a release form to sign in case my child was filmed. I did not sign the release as I do not believe any of these children should be on TV for a reality show. Nothing was done to note my disagreement. I would have pulled my children out that day if they weren't so excited to start school. But this shows a typical lack of communication for something important, and how parents are treated by the teachers and director. The curriculum varies depending on the lead teacher. If you happen to get one of the good classes, you are in luck. However, of the 5 classes, there is one good lead teacher. We as a family have experienced each of the rooms but the oldest. Two rooms are completely uncontrolled. My oldest child went from the best teacher ever to a room that had no discipline. It felt like everything my child learned the year before was completely wasted and thrown out the window when moved to the next class. Speaking to the director about changing classes was out of the question as two previous families with similar concerns, had involuntarily left the school. The was very little learning in this classroom, it is childcare, not preschool. My child was completely unprepared for Kindergarten. Yet had scored one of the highest in the schools kindergarten preparedness test. However families that I have spoken to about the other older class had much better results with the kindergarten transition. But the director of the big school, the elementary, Dr. Grey, told me specifically, along and announced in the parent orientation meeting that they cater to the mid range students. If your. Hilda needs help in a subject, it is your responsibility. Likewise, if your child excels in a subject, the school will not help them either. They won't feed the child more advanced info for their advanced subjects. They teach the approved curriculum and that is it. That was the reason we didn't bother staying at the preschool to go to the big school. read more

Our daughter went to the preschool for 3 years and is now in kindergarten at the big school and our son is just finishing his first year. We are very pleased with the school and staff, and the environment has always been welcoming and warm. The caring and nurturing our children received from their teachers has had a positive impact on their lives and we feel confident that they will continue to thrive in this environment. We love PCS! Our daughter is in her second year at the school. She is growing and thriving. She comes home every day and is singing songs and talking about all she did in school that day - from going down the slide to cooking in class to painting to field trips to learning how she is a "lamb of God". It is a wonderful place for her. We looked at other schools before our decision to send her here and we feel so lucky that this ended up being our best choice. I just read the review by Lisa Ann B and felt compelled to write a review of Pasadena Christian Preschool in response. My two children have gone through the entire program at Pasadena Christian Preschool for a total of 6-1/2 years at the preschool. Our experience has been nothing but the most positive. The lead and assistant teachers in each classroom (rooms 5- 1) each year showed the upmost in professionalism and proper training. The school curriculum is a developmental approach to learning, which at this age is appropriate and best for each child who matures individually. This method is purposely made flexible so the teachers can respond to the children's needs and interests. One of the primary reasons we chose PCS from the beginning. PCS has the right balance of teacher-guided instruction and child-choice activities, hands-on for the way preschoolers learn. They have the right level of discipline, the children are encouraged to use their words for communication and expression in order to learn to solve their own conflicts before the teacher steps in - who gauges accurately when it's time for adult intervention. The environment of indoor and outdoor spaces and the variety of projects and activities helps the 'whole child' to grow at their own pace, available when their mind and body are ready. The teachers are trained to see the child's needs and challenge them for growth. By the time they finish class 1, they are fully prepared for Kindergarten both socially and developmentally. And through all these years the teachers have been sensitive and caring to my children, creating loving relationships that have lasted still. Just a few things my child has done in the last week... cooking, painting, block building, letter sounds, writing, bike riding, care for the guinea pig, puzzles, group games, singing and dancing, recording the weather, learning the days of the week, bible stories, sharing toys, climbing, imaginative play with friends, learning to listen, raise their hand and take turns, should I go on? Both of my children were accepted to one of the top private schools in Pasadena. This is attributed to PCS's focus on the whole child, and not a strict pure academic instruction. Specific items mentioned by Lisa Ann B almost make me laugh, clearly she is a disgruntled individually seeking out petty things to blow out of proportion.... I can quickly count 10 teachers who have been at the school since we started (over half the staff).... I have always felt informed by the staff and teachers of upcoming events, activities and any concerns within the classroom....The director is a very dedicated, professional and caring individual. One only needs to take the time to have a personal friendly conversation. She has always been approachable and keeps the child as her top priority.... As for the filming day mentioned, this was blip within one day, my child was there too and just not that big of a deal. If any fault lies it's with the parent for thrusting this imposition on the school with no notice. I would not hesitate to recommend PCS. Not only will your child grow, they will thrive. As a bonus you become part of the PCS 'family', where getting involved and volunteering not only helps the school but gives a sense of pride for making a difference, plus the best part of all is the countless friends I have made that will last a lifetime. read more

Amazing school! This should sum it up--given a choice the other day whether my two children (one in preschool and one in kindergarten) could take the day off and go to Disneyland or go to school they both chose school. I kid you not. Even I was astonished! PCS is a loving environment that caters to the emotional, academic and spiritual needs of the children. The staff is helpful. The school is clean and up-to-date. We LOVE PCS! Our son has been there for 4 years and we have never been unhappy. He is learning, playing, problem solving, and most of all having fun. His teachers have comforted him when he needed it and pushed him to learn when he didn't really want to. Everyone there is friendly and responsive to feedback and questions. They are known for their outdoor classroom which has been so important to us. They offer a hot lunch for a minimal fee and they are open from 7-6. I feel relaxed and at ease when I am at work knowing they are caring for my son. read more

My two children have attended the preschool for a total of 6 years, in classrooms 2, 3, 4, and 5. I continue to be impressed with the intentional teaching that happens in each of the classes and the outdoor classroom. Children don't paint or use playdough just because it's Thursday and that's playdough day, there is an intentional plan, focus and instructional path that is thought out and delivered with consistency and precision. I find communication with all the staff to be pleasant and easy. I feel well-informed of activities and events. The best part is the caring and nurturing environment created by dedicated teachers and assistants. Everyone takes the time to interact with students individually - lots of hugs, smiles, greetings, conversations, attention. My children LOVE their teachers and going to school, and I have every confidence in the staff that my kids are well cared for and challenged to grow. Pasadena Christian Preschool gets 5 stars. I am an educator and toured pretty much every well known preschool in the area and Pasadena Christian Preschool came out ahead by a long shot. I have 2 kids who have gone through every class at this school, each class has been a wonderful experience for my children. The developmental approach is completely age appropriate for preschoolers. My children are completely prepared for kindergarten yet, the school does not use worksheets which is great. The school focuses on social skills like sharing, taking turns, problem solving, and developing peer relations with lots of structured-directed and exploratory play. The preschool is full of rich print and stories that encourages kids to explore their environment. The school is the perfect example of the intent of Piaget's theory of cognitive development implemented into a school. I mean, heck I even want to stay at the school and play WITH my kids. My children have been so nurtured by the staff here. After attending Pasadena Christian Preschool my oldest is now more than prepared to enter Kindergarten in the fall. read more

My son attended a different preschool in the Pasadena area this past fall and we are switching to Pasadena Christian Preschool. My son is very active and it was hard to be a "square trying to fit into a circle". He attended four weeks of summer school at Pasadena Christian and he really enjoyed it. The school is very open to helping all children adjust to the rules of school and teaching them in a loving manner how to communicate with each other. They are aware that boys need to play/run around and learn through engaging play. The outdoor play area is fabulous-the kids have water play, mud play-so many things to do. The teachers we encountered seem to have been there for many years with a lot of experience-including sensory processing disorder. They play and dance with the kids during outdoor play time. The director (who has been there a year now) and assistant director are very available and are interested in making school a good experience for the child and the parents. I am told that they are in close communication with the kinder teachers at Pasadena Christian School to ensure the kids are prepared for kinder & that it is an easy transition. We are looking forward to this fall and hope it is successful for our little "3 kids in 1" son. read more
