I live in the SGV so I was hesitant since Steven is all the way in Fullerton but after our initial intake, I was like ok, this is going to work. Steven just makes you feel so comfortable. He gives you suggestions on books and websites to look at and "homework" but never makes you feel bad for not reading the book or doing the homework. It didnt feel like he was just trying to check things off or write notes but more like this is YOUR session so you lead it how you want it, which I love. We talked about my anxiety and depression and we're still working on it but I always feel at ease and look forward to my sessions. If I'm having issues and it's not time for my appointment I'll just text him and he's able to squeeze me in. With a healthcare worker schedule, it's always changing and he's always so accommodating. I love how we can jump on a zoom session or if I want to go to the office, he makes time. I've cried with him and I never felt like it wasn't ok. This was long before covid and before tele-visits were available and I literally just didn't have the time to physically go to the therapist's office every week, especially with a baby at home. My office closed back in March 2020 due to covid shut downs. We were suddenly teleworking full time and trying to figure out how to do our jobs fully from home. My then 2 and 3yo toddlers were pulled out of daycare due to fear of them catching covid. Needless to say, things became EXTREMELY chaotic and stressful at home. Trying to juggle being a full time parent with toddlers at home while trying to work a full time job from home has got to be the most challenging thing I've ever done to date. I became very depressed from just being stuck at home all day long with no social interactions besides my husband and kids. Not being able to relieve stress or have any time to relax took a toll and I became more and more unhappy. I got into so many fights with my husband and had so many emotional breakdowns just from pent up stress. I loved being able to watch my kids grow up this past year, but it was definitely not without many breakdowns on my part. I was feeling like such a failure. I confided in a close friend about how I felt earlier this year and she recommended I try out Steven for a free consult. Havening techniques and other techniques have helped me (someone who defaults to over-intellectualizing) get out of my head and into my body which I've found is imperative for healing emotional trauma. With all that said I'm really here to share my experience with the Neurofeedback training done with Rebecca Turner. Having done so much healing and reprocessing through talk therapy, I still felt that my thought patterns were like a hose turned all the way up, whipping around, unable to catch, and control, soaking everyone around me. The initial brain mapping (which is done first to know what areas of the brain to target for training) reflected with tangible data what I was experiencing inside. Ms. Turner described it to me like "your two hemispheres are yelling at each other" which turned out to be one of the most validating things my brain has ever heard about itself. The neurofeedback training process itself is not as complicated and/or intimidating as the name sounds. If one is doing eyes open training, you essentially attach some small sensors to your head using a conductive goop and watch a tv show while the screen brightens and dims in response to the information collected by the sensors and neurofeedback program. For "eyes closed" training, you listen to lyric-less music while the music adjusts the volume to help train your brain. And it all works. I feel good about myself. Shame is now a passing emotion instead of a state of being. Rumination is down ten-fold as my hemispheres aren't "yelling at each other". My thoughts and feelings don't control me as much and/or send my on a downward spiral. If you are someone who feels your emotions are often become too much for you to handle that even standard therapy couldn't alone help, might I suggest neurofeedback?

I have to coordinate childcare, adjust feeding and nap schedules, arrange coverage, and plan my entire day around commitments like this. After making those arrangements and being fully prepared for the consultation, I received a last-minute cancellation with essentially no notice. While I understand that unexpected situations can arise, the way this was handled demonstrated a complete lack of respect for my time and the effort required to attend the appointment. An initial consultation is often a client's first impression of a business. Unfortunately, my first impression was disorganization, poor communication, and unprofessionalism. If a practice cannot reliably manage a scheduled consultation, it does not inspire confidence in the level of care and service they provide. I am deeply disappointed by the inconvenience and disregard shown to a prospective client. I would encourage this practice to reevaluate how they communicate with and respect the time of the people seeking their services.
