I was introduced to Pasadena Urological Medial Group by chance late Feb 2020. During a stint in the ER for extreme abdominal pain, Dr. Chandrasoma was the on-call urologist that day. It turns out that my main issue was urology related so after leaving the hospital, I continued my care with Dr. Chandrasoma and his office. It has taken a little over a year to get my body sorted out and to no fault of my doctors. Everyone that I have worked with at the office has been extremely caring and helpful even the nurses that take your weight and blood pressure. I know the office is almost always busy with not being the largest facility and catering the the patients of 3 doctors so sometimes things can take a little longer than expected but nothing worse than what I have experienced at other offices. During treatments, I did have an occasion where the antibiotic I was given was something I had taken before but for whatever reason, my body decided to develop an allergy to this specific medication. I was able to call the office and let them know what happened. They called in another antibiotic to my pharmacy the same day and I was able to continue my treatment without much issue. Shout out to Dr. Chandrasoma who 'won the lotto' that day and got me as a patient. He tried everything he could that was non to minimally invasive to solve my issues before finally having to perform surgery. Throughout my treatment, I was always confident in his judgement for what the next course of action was. And shout out to Marina who does all of the scheduling for the office. She was responsible for getting all of my tests, scans, procedures and surgeries scheduled with various 3rd party facilities. And having to work with patient schedules, facility schedules and COVID was not an easy task. Over the course of the year, I probably had at least 1 thing to schedule per month and some months there were 2. I had a few interactions with Dr. Bishai as well. He was involved in a few of my procedures. Although I did not see him regularly, the few times I did meet him, he was kind, funny and knowledgeable. read more

I go to the Urology Group in Pasadena on Madison Avenue, and this is one of the worst medical offices I've experienced when it comes to customer service. First of all, they almost never answer the phone. Out of 10 calls, they might answer once. They also never return calls. I left a message and waited five days with no response. The last time I was there waiting to see my doctor, I decided to call the office while sitting in the waiting room. My call went straight to the answering machine, even though I could clearly see the front desk staff sitting there talking and laughing. That was extremely unprofessional. When it was finally my turn, an unfriendly nurse took my blood pressure using a very basic manual machine. As she was leaving, I politely asked if the doctor was on time. Her response was shocking. She said, "He's with another patient and late. Leave if you can't wait!!!" I honestly could not believe my ears. Her name might be Amanda -- she has long reddish hair -- and she was the most rude, unfriendly, and mean nurse I have ever encountered in my life. The front desk staff is also not welcoming at all. The woman who greets patients is very short in her tone, unfriendly, and rude. There is no warmth or professionalism whatsoever. I honestly don't know if the doctors are aware of how patients are being treated by their staff, but it seriously affects the overall experience. No patient should be treated this way. read more

My husband was seen by Dr. Shahin Chandrasoma during a hospital stay at Huntington Hospital 5/26 to 5/28. Per the discharge instructions, my husband was to come to Dr. Chandrasoma's office on June 2nd at 8:00 am. After approximately 15 mins of waiting, we were informed he did not have an appointment and it was downhill from that moment forward. I informed the receptionist that we would not leave without having the Foley catheter removed. Finally, almost 3 hours later, and after a tense exchange with the receptionist and a nurse, the catheter was removed. The receptionist and nurse clearly had no desire to express compassion for a patient in need. I shudder to think what would have happened to my husband had I not been with him. Dr. Chandrasoma, you may be a great doctor, but we will never know this due to the cruelty and lack of professionalism demonstrated by your staff. However, I am beginning to question what kind of person you are as you have not seen fit to acknowledge the letter I sent to you and the other doctors in your practice. It is my sincere hope your office will take a serious look at their behavior because obviously based on reviews, many share similar thoughts about your practice. read more

I have been coming 3 years to this place for my UTI. No complaints for the doctors, but Lucille at the reception window is the most unprofessional receptionist I have ever met. 1st she keeps her window closed and regardless if you sign in or not, the window stays closed and she ignores you, no acknowledgement that you came or is sitting in the waiting room. I was told I could request my records and it would take up to 7 days, and 8 days later I'm being told it may take up to 14 days. Well I asked Lucille in a written request on the 9th February to fax my records to another Urology office in Pasadena, so I could see a new doctor for a 2nd opinion. On 17 Feb, she said she did fax them at around 11:30 to the other Urology office in Pasadena, because I had an appointment with the new doctor on the 18 Feb at 8:30 am. No records were faxed yet at 4pm and at 5pm all offices were closed. The new doctor's office even called her to re fax my records, but by closing time I had no idea if my records were faxed or not. It would defeat the purpose to see the new doctor WITHOUT him having my records for the 2nd opinion, and his next appointment open is in late March, a month later. The new doctors' office/other urology office was also waiting for my records after they called Lucille at 4pm on the 17 Feb, but nothing yet at closing? How frustrating, and these are the kind of unprofessional experiences I have had with the office front staff for 3 years. At this point I will seriously think about changing urologist offices. No one should put up with this kind of unprofessional behavior and rudeness. Lucille hung up on me, after telling me she did fax my records at around 11:30 on the 17 Feb. before I could tell her, they did not arrive at the new doctor's office. read more

I ended up going to Pasadena Urological Medical Group because it was the only urology doctor I could find in LA not booked out for the next 4 months. I struggle with SEVERE overactive bladder syndrome to the point my quality of life is suffering. I came into my appointment hopeful that I may find some relief from this doctor. Dr. Edwards saw me and prescribed me Gemtesa for my OAB. He said I should feel relief in the next 2-3 days. 2 weeks into taking this medication, I had no relief and my symptoms were worsening. Gemtesa happens to be the most expensive medicine for OAB so I attempted to call the office to get a prior-authorization form sent to my insurance because Gemtesa was denied. The receptionist said she would send it in for me. A week later, I have received no update on this prior-authorization being sent in. I call back and the other (older and crabbier) receptionist said there are no notes that I ever requested a prior-auth to be sent in. I BEG her to speak to Dr. Edwards at this point because my medication is still not working. After 3 days of calling repeatedly, I am finally able to speak to the doctor. Dr. Edwards is a nice enough old man. I asked him to prescribe me a medication I had taken ten years prior for OAB that gave me significant relief. He tells me that he can go ahead and prescribe that medication but it probably won't work because I hadn't gotten any relief from the first medication he prescribed (Gemtesa). Additionally, he says to me: "You're not going to get relief from any medication if you are smoking weed everyday." Hold up. I had been into the office one time and this is the second time I have ever spoken to Dr. Edwards. I have NEVER disclosed that I am a pot smoker to Dr. Edwards. I'm not mad at this - he is totally right. I am a habitual pot smoker. But I never told him this. We never discussed marijuana up until this point. I am a 26 year old girl covered in tattoos. He must have just assumed. I won't try to explain what's wrong with that. Anyways, he tells me I need a surgical consult with his partner. For those of you who don't know, the surgery I would need is sacral neural modulation. This is an extremely invasive surgery where they implant a pace-maker like device in my spine and then I have to have a surgery every 3-5 years for the rest of my life until I die to replace the battery each time it runs out of juice. I will not try to explain why I would want to try to avoid this surgery at all costs. I have given up with this doctor at this point. From extensive Reddit research, I find out, ON MY OWN, that Pelvic Health Physical Therapy may be helpful for me. I make an appointment at The Pelvic Model, also located in Pasadena. I have been going there for a couple weeks, but as pelvic health is a niche form of physical therapy, my insurance won't cover it. I am now BEGGING the receptionist at Pasadena Urology to submit a prior-authorization for my pelvic health physical therapy. She said she won't do it because there is no documentation of Dr. Edwards suggesting that. (Which he didn't. I had to ask him if I should try it, to which he said I should.) Dr. Edwards is now out for the next two weeks so I'm still screwed at this point. DO NOT GO TO THIS UROLOGY GROUP. YOU WILL NOT BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY ABOUT YOUR HEALTH ISSUES. YOU WILL NOT BE RESPECTED. YOU WILL BE VERBALLY ABUSED BY THE RECEPTIONISTS. THEY WILL PUSH SURGERY ON YOU WITHOUT TRYING OTHER OPTIONS. GO TO THE PELVIC MODEL IN PASADENA IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH OVERACTIVE BLADDER SYNDROME. THEY ARE WONDERFUL AND YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE HELPED BY THEM IF YOU SUFFER FROM WHAT I DO. DO NOT GO TO PASADENA UROLOGY. FIND ANY OTHER UROLOGIST. UPDATE: I went to a new urologist and I was misdiagnosed by Pasadena Urology. I do not have OAB like Dr. Edwards told me. It took the new urologist one exam to say well your OAB meds aren't working, you have severe pelvic floor dysfunction, not OAB. It's pretty upsetting that they were pushing a horrible surgery (sacral neuromodulation) on me without even giving me a proper exam. read more

Find a different place. I had a 4 o'clock appointment. I asked if I could please be there by 4:30 extra please. They said NO. I work until five but I asked to leave early to make my appointment. I rushed here at 4 PM on the dot wait it over an hour to be seen by Dr, just find a different place to go. :(. They don't care. read more

Ouchie....ouchie....ouchie... I'm all for getting a check up for me, but if you are kinda daring...then this check up is for you. Think about this eerie feeling. Having a camera go up and inside the front of your private area. I know many of you are thinking right now, "HELLO NO". But at some point in your life it's got to be done. I'm being nice in saying it this way. But that is truly a painful way of checking the inside of your bladder. They also check your prostate to. I would not want to go through this again. Agreed with other reviews regarding professionalism and follow-up. I had an appointment a week ago and need follow up with lab work. I was told a form would be sent in the mail to schedule it. It has not come and whenever I try to contact the office, I am put on hold for several minutes and the receptionist doesn't reconnect. I have left messages but do not get a call back. I saw Dr. Shahin Chandrasoma for an issue with my prostate. It took two months to get an appointment, which followed prior ultrasound and MRI scans. I was ready for some answers about a prostate nodule and a plan forward but all I received was advice on going on the Whole 30 diet. There was no discussion about what to do with my prostate nodule, only the doctor's anecdote about having an issue with popcorn...??? The diet is a fad and a joke, basically you can't eat anything other than veggies and meat. I'm a vegetarian so I can't eat meat, just salads, no thank you, and I don't need to lose weight, I'm in excellent shape. I want my issue addressed with Modern Medicine. I made another appointment with another Urologist and have contacted my general doctor about this referral. read more

Dr. Bishai was our referred doctor by our HMO to perform our sons circumcision. He was very friendly and caring toward him. We came here a few times for follow ups and check ups before and after the surgery. Staff are friendly and usually fit us in when we could come in. The facility is very old and dated. Surgery was done at Huntington Memorial due to my son being an infant still. Parking was free on the street and they have a free lot on the corner of the street. Overall, cannot complain my son is doing well and great experience with Dr. Bishai! read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The office staff is extremely rude and lack communication with the patients. The front desk worker is so rude that she goes so far as to close the window to not talk to patients. Patients stand at her window for minutes to finally get her attention to ask their question. They are severely understaffed and over crowded. For a place this busy, they should be able to hire more staff, or at least some with compassion for the patients clearly in pain. The manager is even worse with a defensive attitude and has an excuse for everything. Honestly, if you get sent to these specialists, try to look elsewhere for better care. read more

This review is about the assistants-not the doctors. Many times when I've called I get put on hold for several minutes. This is unacceptable and is no way to treat patients. The assistants who first greet you during the appointment need to improve their "customer service" skills. But I doubt this can happen because they don't have what it takes to be considerate and caring. Marina is the one with a poor attitude and should not be interfacing with patients. I would make more comments about her but she cannot defend herself in this forum so I'll be fair and talk to her personally. I had been seeing Dr. Bishai for around 2 years. After several rounds of ultrasounds with conflicting results and with no satisfactory explanation as to why there was such a discrepancy, I finally came to the conclusion that this facility was not for me. The doctor uses young assistants to read him my history and/or results, seemingly without examining them himself. He then would quickly throw out an assessment to me without much explanation. Several times, he would come in telling me results, not from the last visit, but from 2 visits prior! When I told him he wasn't looking at the most recent info, he would argue with me very vigorously that I was wrong. After convincing him to look more thoroughly, and sure enough, finding I was right, he quickly changed his story as if nothing had occurred. He finally ordered a CT scan in order to verify if there actually was a problem, but he only did this after my insistence that his current info was incorrect. The scan contradicted the doctor's initial assessment. I know that this can happen and that doctors do the best they can with the information they have. But the lack of thorough record keeping and attention to detail could have led me to having unnecessary procedures I do not need - not to mention the emotional trauma that this situation induced. I cannot recommend this office and have decided to look elsewhere for care. read more

Unfortunately wasunable to go to my son's consultation so I cant give a review based on the office or staff there. My review is solely based upon my phone experience and dishonesty of the staff who handled authorizations and surgery coordinating. Called this morning 2/3 and was on hold for about 15 mins then someone finally answered I asked for the status on my son's surgery referral and was put on hold again. Then she quickly answered and asked me what surgery date I wanted .I had already called the medical group and they had informed me no referral was ever submitted. I then took a surgery date and called my medical group who told me auth was pending and was submitted 5 mins ago. Very very very disappointed read more

I saw Dr. Michael Bishai MD earlier this month because my mother needed to be seen and I am quite unhappy with how he was not giving us the proper attention and care in the "time" that we were allotted. He was being interrupted by phone call after phone call, which he answered during the appointment, and then rushed us out. I understand that this office is very busy and has many patients to deal with, but I would appreciate that when we are with the Doctor, he is providing us with his full attention, and that he does not answer a call while with us. He was a wonderful Doctor otherwise, but he needs to learn to be with his patient and not on his phone. read more

Beware of going to this Dr. office - put on your thick skin because you will get mistreated for no reason. Pay attention to the poor reviews on Yelp. My husband had a procedure and a scrip for antibiotics was called in the CVS. Upon receiving the wrong antibiotic, it was returned to CVS. Between the Dr. and CVS, one of them should have known that the antibiotics would have caused serious, deadly allergic reactions. My husband called the office to get another scrip. Maria answered the phone and he calmly explained and tried to get another scrip. Maria was extremely rude, impatient and was increasingly hostile towards my husband, a long time patient. Her attitude and tone got worse and worse and wouldn't let my husband talk so finally my husband asked to speak to her supervisor. He was placed on hold and Maria gave her side because once the office manager, Sherry came on the line- with a rude attitude as well and roaring and proceeded to defend Maria's bad attitude. She didn't want to resolve the problem or offer any apologies for Maria's bad attitude either. She was equally unprofessional, rude, harsh and condescending as well. Wow, what happened to providing an oz. customer service, treating your patients with patience, kindness and respect??? Pretty disappointed and shocked that the back office ladies are soooooo rude, harsh, insulting, cold hearted with no compassion or patience and can't control their bad moods and take it out on their poor patients. This wasn't the patient's fault and was merely trying to get help to prevent any infections Those bitches should be fired and not be working with people and should find another line of work with machines or take a customer service training class. People working with the public need to be patient and kind to one another, especially during a pandemic. No wonder people are going crazy and not letting Karma do the work. People who mistreat others should pause and think about the consequences. They better hope they don't get sick because they will get mistreated too. Doctors need to understand that they're running a business, and the face of the business and for the most part "the first impression" is culminated in the manner you are greeted and taken care of at the front desk. A smile received from a caring front desk person or a nurse is worth more than the strongest pain medication a doctor can prescribe. As far as the doctor himself, Dr. Bishai is fairly knowledgeable and compassionate person. No comments about that. Finally, a newer more modern office building should be considered by these doctors, as starting with the front door to the interiors, one can tell that it's an old dilapidated facility, which doesn't go hand in hand with the type of service they are providing, especially when outpatient procedures are conducted, one needs to feel clean, shiny, white, that provides a peace of mind. read more

Normally I give a pass when an office is understaffed considering that "it's not the staffs fault" but the ownser. But in this case I'm suspecting the cost-saving measure is a reflection of the level of care provided here. When you call be prepared to be put on hold for as long as 15 minutes (not enough staff to answer the phones) I saw Dr Shaheen Chandrasoma in early August 2020 and when I first met him and I thought to myself, "Hmm he seems like a 'take charge' kinda guy". Little did I know how right I was! I returned a few weeks later on Sept. 2 after getting my bloodwork and boy was my instinct right about him. Not only did he forget that I am the patient and the decision-maker, but he must have completely failed "Patient Care 101". Not only was he rude (when I asked him for my records he tore it off and thrust it at me) but he thought he had the authority to manipulate, cajole, inspire (he tried storytelling) and finally bully me into submitting to a procedure I didn't want. I didn't want it because after seeing his real persona, I didn't trust him. He is unbalanced and not a caring trustworthy professional like I am used to having on my team. But he wouldn't take "no" for an answer and persisted in trying to persuade me saying that he was doing it because he "cared". Note to Doc: "If you cared, then you would listen to your patients Doc". I've had a bad taste in my mouth for this place since. I'm changing my HealthCare Provider as a result of this experience. Be warned. read more

Need to echo Elyse's review: this office is horribly run. Fortunately, I was spared from having to endure a long visit full waiting, since I was unable to schedule an appointment after being kept on the phone forever. I called to ask for an appointment on a specific date I had available. Receptionist asked me what the emergency was (as if I'd asked to come in immediately instead of in 4 days). I explained that I was told by a local hospital to follow up with a urologist with my symptoms. She promptly told me, "Well, there's no availability on that date." OK then. Instead of looking for alternative dates or recommending another office, she placed me on extended hold and forgot all about me. Horribly unprofessional and lazy. This is my first time writing review yelp. I am doing this because of Dr Edwards. He is best doctor I have ever met. I was diagnosed having UTI with my gynecologist. So I went to Dr Edwards for further check up. The office is very homey and front desk and nurses are very nice and helpful. When I met Dr Edwards, he carefully and nicely asked my conditions and wrote them down. I explained to him that I did a gynecology ultrasound and the result seems not good because the doctor asked me to revisit him. He felt my worries and asked nurses to contact my gynecologist to get the result right away. At the meantime, he did a kidney and Bladder ultrasound for me (Yes, he did it himself but not ask nurse to do it and he didn't tell me to come back a week later to get the result just like other doctors do). He told me the result right away. I told him that my insurance won't cover the ultra sound but he just smiled and said that he won't charge for it because this is part of the diagnose process. He also tested my Urine right after the ultra sound and told me the result 5 minutes after I gave him my Urine sample. I am very very impressed, not just because he is so nice and professional, but also how much he cares about his patient and totally understands how anxious we are to get the test results. At the end, he told me that my results seems all good and the UTI is gone. I really felt lucky to find Dr. Edwards, and I will definitely recommend him to whoever looking for a outstanding Urologist. I would like to hug him at the end but I was too shy, so anyone who feels the same way I feel, please hug him for me. read more

On Monday morning, 9/29, my husband woke unable to urinate. I phoned a Urologist office in Alhambra, but they could not see him. Then, I Yelped and found this office, I called and explained the problem to the receptionist. She responded saying, "Hmm, that's not good; can you be here in 20 minutes." In a flash, we were on our way. We checked in, completed necessary forms and shortly thereafter we saw Dr. Michael Bishai; what an absolute godsend! A wonderful, caring and excellent doctor that immediately took care of my husband. We are extremely pleased with the kind service of the office staff and, of course, Dr. Bishai's treatment and follow-up with my husband. We, now, have a Urologist for him. I highly recommend, without reservation, the Pasadena Urological Medical Group. read more

Until recently I would rather have a root canal than see a urologist. All I could equate with them was pain and sticking tubes where they do not normally go. But, I was having an increasing amount of pain in my bladder. My primary care physician referred me to this group, and come to find out, I had seen them several times over a decade ago. Nothing but bad memories. Well, things of changed. You could not find a nicer group of doctors (mine is Dr. Jones). First, there was no hesitation to get me diagnosed immediately. I ended up having a csytoscopy under general anesthesia at Huntington Memorial. It turns out all the nurses love these doctors too because they hang out all day after their procedures are done to check on their patients and help out the nurses. The nurses at their office are also great, especially Mary Lou (who has been there for 42 years). She knows her stuff and genuinely cares about her patients. It's like having your Mom there to hold your hand. They have been great with controlling the pain from the Interstitial Cystitis I was diagnosed with. If you have to deal with any urological problems, this is the place you want to go. read more

I went in 20 minutes early cause I was a new patient and knew there would be forms to fill out, waited for 15 mins before being called up just to fill out the forms so I rushed and filled them out and took them back up to just get ignored by the two women standing there so I left it there and walked away. Another 10 mixture passed until I was able to get my cards back. Then waited for another 15 before I went into a room to talk with the doctor that didn't come in for another 15 minutes talked with him for maybe 5 minutes tops, then got taken into an exam room where I waited to see the doctor for ANOTHER 30 minutes. Finally saw him and was told to schedule another appointment so I went to the lovely charming woman who makes the appointments only to be ignored again straight to my face didn't even acknowledge me. I finally stood up and said asked if she was going to schedule an appointment for me or did I need to call cause I had to go and her response was "ok". Very very very terrible run office. Do not expect to be greeted nicely or treated well. I would not recommend this office to anyone. read more

This reviews is not as a patient but to explain my experience when calling in to ask about male fertility testing. I wanted to know a bit about the process and cost since this would be an out of pocket expense. The receptionist explained the initial costs which first included the consultation fee and then the outside lab testing for whatever is necessary. I asked about the consultation and if everything is visibly fine and working as expected is this necessary or can you go straight to lab testing and then have the doc review them. She got an exaggerating voice and as she was hanging up was literally chuckling and laughing. Just seemed very unprofessional to me and I don't understand how someone in a doctor's office could act this way. When you have tons of choices for doctor's I would move on and keep looking. Again, this post has nothing to do with the doctor themselves, just my experience with the office staff on the phone. read more
