Everything that was good here was glorious, but one of our dishes tasted super off, and despite both a manager and our server being privy to that, they didn't offer to make us something different and didn't take the offending item off the bill (I'd ordered the shrimp croquette salad and the croquettes tasted super off. I had to spit out the one bite I took and was super relieved not to get food poisoning). The salad itself was so fantastic that I didn't push the issue when we got our bill and it hadn't been reduced, but the fact that they didn't do anything to remedy the issue left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. My husband's ribs were excellent, as was the baked potato with spicy butter that accompanied them. Prices are very reasonable for Brugge. Definitely make reservations or expect to sit at the bar if you visit during a busy tourist season.

We completely stumbled upon Passage during our day trip to Bruges; after researching the standards - waffles and chocolate, of course - lunch became sidetracked. However, after a morning of walking (and experiencing that ever so slightly stressful train between Brussels and Bruges) we were definitely in need of a decent meal. We were drawn to Passage by the grandeur of the decor. Combined with reasonable pricing and a quiet location down a side street, it felt like a winner for lunch. Greeted with a smile and seated quickly, we were able to take in the pretty amazing interior design. You enter through a large curtain and then are faced with numerous grand portraits, knick knacks, and a gramophone which takes centre stage. It's not the easiest of places to navigate but, unless you're regularly nipping up to the loo, that's the staff's issue... The menu is split between some delicious sounding sharing platters, salads, and then larger meals. We were given some warm bread and fresh pate, plus some form of chutney, while we perused and our wine was poured. After already making our way through some of the traditional items of Belgium, we both went for a variation on stew; Kate W. went for the Flemish beef, which was really tender and served up with her choice of a baked potato, and I opted for the chicken served with a little puff pastry disc and frites. This was my kind of chicken stew. Rich and creamy but packed with flavour, it had plenty of mushrooms and roasted tomatoes to cut through the sauce, and - needless to say - I really enjoyed mopping up the last of the sauce with my frites. A really relaxed meal in the otherwise bustling tourist centre of Bruges.

Moules et frites! After a day wandering Bruges, Gran Kaffee de Passage is a beautiful place to have dinner. It has high ceilings, dark wood and iron, and interesting artwork. I was here with a large group, and the staff were on top of things. We took up most of the front portion of the restaurant, and the place was filled with jovial noise. It seemed like a busy place regardless of our presence. I had mussels, perhaps not for the first time, that were lovely. This was the first time I had mussels served in a pot though, for sure, and the broth was seasoned nicely. I don't recall the frites being extraordinary, but the wine, bread, and mussels were more than sufficient for me. Were I to return to Bruges in some unlikely event, I would probably return to Passage. (The website, other than showing gorgeous photos of the restaurant, is rather useless)

Steamy pot of mussles covered in onion and celry - what a delicious meal.

We followed the suggestions from fellow yelpers and were not disappointed. I had the mussels with fries (€21) and they were delicious and fresh. They are presented in a cute (large) pot - when the server removed the lid, aroma of onions and clery smak you in the face - in a food way. I was pretty full after getting halfway into the pot of fresh seafood goodness. Luckily my dining partner helped me. He had the lamb chops (€18) - very delicious grilled cops served with a pat of herb butter on top - can't go wrong with that!! The servers were kind and spoke English well. Our first server recommended an excellent local beer after we told her what our preferences. Their beer list is displayed handwritten on a mirror - looked super cool in contrast to the decor of the rest of the place. I saw another person order a "red beer" and I asked for a glass too. It was SO good - the fruit beer on tap. It was like an alcoholic kool-aid - in a good way. The best part was dessert - waffle with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The waffle was crunchy and delicious and the ice cream was a perfect compliment. Highlighly recommended!! In short, excellent prices, service, atmosphere, drinks, and food. A must try!!

Really loved the starter salad and my husband's baked potato ;). My food was great, but I always love a good baked potato!

It checked all the boxes I was looking for - local Belgian cuisine, affordable, close by, and open late. Exactly what you want after a long day of drinking Belgian beers. I didn't realize ribs were such a big deal in Belgium, so I was genuinely excited when I ordered them... only to feel deep disappointment when the server returned to let me know they had just sold out. Luckily, I pivoted to the vol-au-vent and had absolutely no regrets. The chicken was moist and creamy, and the pastry was incredibly flaky and light. Naturally, I paired it with a Trappist ale, which felt mandatory. Cozy, satisfying, and quintessentially Belgian--this spot lived up to the recommendation and then some.

My son loved his beef stew and applesauce. My husband loved his salmon and I absolutely loved my salad! The tomatoes tasted like they were right out of a garden!! It was one of the best salads I've ever had! The restaurant could be good just for a casual dinner or it could also be a nice romantic place to spend time with loved ones! The waiters were very nice and helpful, making recommendations that proved to be amazing!
