I had the seafood pot au feu snd my boyfriend had the leg of rabbit. The flavor development in that rabbit dish was incredible--super delicious! The pot au feu was also very tasty and hearty! I could only eat about half of it. This place does not do any cocktails except for liquor and soda. They do have a wine list, and serve a wide variety of liquors that they serve straight up. Service was good. The fish stew was AMAZING. The mussels were decent but coming from a coastal hometown I've had much better at home. The fries were very good. I'd recommend a recreation, but they were able to seat our party of 2 for lunch without a reservation. The drink list is decent. They have a couple mocktails on the menu as well. It's a cute little spot with some nice details on the walls. I'd come here again purely for the potato dollops in the fish stew. It's a must get if you're here! read more

Ordered a filet mignon and it was hands down the best I've ever had. Perfectly done. One thing to note, is that (Belgium in general) if you ask for medium, it will lean a little more towards medium rare. The fries were also fantastic, and not too salted, and the mushroom sauce was out of this world! The place itself is cozy (reserve a table to be sure they have a sear for you), it's a nice calm ambience and the waiters are incredibly nice and they absolutely know the menu. It could be that I was cold and hungry but I thought this place was great. The service was friendly and relatively prompt especially by European standards. I had the Flemish stew which came with fries and it was exactly what I hoped. Hot and delicious. I didn't stay for dessert as I wanted to go elsewhere for a waffle but I saw some desserts including a brûlée which was served with a flame. The interior was bright and clean (went for lunch). We have a pleasant meal at De Gastro on our first night in Brugge. We started with a fresh buratta enjoining it itch the hearty house bread. The sole was swimming in delectable butter and of course came with fries and salad and the Coq au vin was melt in your mouth yumminess. We had to have the apple dessert which came out steaming hot with a generous dollop of vanilla ice cream. Everything was great. Service was friendly and efficient in this cozy restaurant with a modern vibe. Prices were reasonable too so a nice spot for a lovely dinner. My sister and I dined here on 9/25. We felt the waitstaff was rude to us in several instances. And, after waiting 45 minutes for our starter (and watching other tables have their starters as well as their mains finished), my sister got up to look for our server whom we had not seen for 35 minutes. She asked about the status of our food and was told the Kitchens was "very busy", however before she barely sat back down there was BOTH of our courses served at once. Spent a night in Bruges this past August and walked around trying to avoid the touristy places to eat and wow did we find the perfect restaurant. We had the croquettes, mussels and coq au vin and they were the best of each we've ever had. Beautiful restaurant and truly wonderful meal. The worst filet I've ever had. The server said that medium would be more like medium rare, which is what I prefer. When the steak came out it was more well done and tough as nails. Took a day trip from Ghent to Bruge. This was my lunch spot for the day. I did the market menu set. It came with a croquette, steak and creame brûlée as dessert. I was not a fan of the steak. Not sure what cut was the steak, but was to thick in my opinion. Only filet mignon should be that thick. It was really tough to cut and chew. The center was blue basically. The creame brûlée on the other hand is straight up FIRE. It came to me with a 4 inch high flame. 10/10 for the creame brûlée. 6/10 for the whole experience. Truly fantastically delicious! A quick trip to Bruges at the end of a month long European trip and I can say this was an amazing way to finish as my final dinner before heading back to the US! The ambience was wonderful and romantic (and we were in the back room!). The service was friendly, attentive. The food was filling and AMAZING. My husband and I went with the fixed price menu. Nope, can't really rave about the restaurant here, the prices are pretty much the same here and anywhere else. But the service was slow, and wasn't even busy, not particular friendly either. I was prepared to order lots having walked quite a fair bit, but if the waiter wasnt bothered, then neither was I. Ordered Flemish stew, which you can't really go wrong, but it was more like beef gravy than anything else, where was the chunks of meat. The frites came much later than the stew, and no bread was served, was I meant to drink the stew?. I understand many restaurants are similar, and so I would have given an average score. But reading hundreds of 5 stars reviews, on the best food restaurant in Brugge, really?? I think if you are paying similar prices for pretty much the same food, why not eat somewhere with a great view. Which we did. read more

The family run restaurant was extremely pleasant and helpful in navigating/suggesting menu items and drinks. Another couple walked into the restaurant and seemed to prefer the place just to visit the friendly staff. Being from out of the country, we've learned that it's not always common for wait staff to check in on you - this was not the case here. Great food, nice atmosphere, would suggest. De Gastro is a quaint modern style restaurant just outside of the main touristy area in Brugge. The restaurant was very quiet and we were the only customers in there for the majority of the time, but it was not an omen for being a bad restaurant. Our group of 5 had the flemish stew, filet mignon, and spare ribs, and everything was delicious, hot and perfectly timed. All meals came with a salad and fries and were great. The salad was a little hard to eat because it was cut very finely. The menu was comparable to other nearby sit down restaurants; 17-22+ euro range. Hint: if you do the free walking tour by Legends of Brugge, you get a free beer coupon with purchase of meal.
