Located just off the Grote Markt, this is where the locals eat, and judging from the prices, they have cash to spend. Most menu items are 25 euro and up, although there is also a more affordable snack menu and it's an option to just stop in for coffee or drinks. Have to agree on our Hotel's suggestion to head to this place to eat with the locals. It felt like we were the only tourists; the place was packed, even on a Monday for lunch. We chose the lunch special, which was a decent option price-wise ($17.50), but wasn't all that great other-wise, apart from the curry soup. Most of the other food I saw delivered to tables around me looked delicious. The establishment is deep but narrow and it feels a bit cramped as a result. There are three rows of tables and chairs that run the entire length of the restaurant. The continuous rushing between these tables by the busy waiters makes it feel a bit hectic. Service was quite impersonal and a bit hurried. Overall, 4 stars is pushing it a bit, but this is a nice place that we didn't get the best of. This, I feel, was a combination of timing (lunch rush), location (seated on the middle row of tables where a table along the edge would have been more relaxed), and our option for the less expensive (tourist-targeted?) lunch menu.

Delicious, great service. Glad we stopped here for our first meal in Bruges. The bar has been set!

I would definitely eat here again and again for lunch or dinner if I'm ever in Bruges again.

But I think this might be typical of traditional Flemish food. But the rest of the whole experience was great! The service was great, and so was the atmosphere. We went there for Christmas dinner when finding a nice restaurant that was open was very difficult. The owner/waiter was friendly with a great sense of humor. He started us off with a DELICIOUS sampler appetizer (free, and without us asking for it) of goat cheese pate with bread crumbles and herbs in a small cup, and salmon pate in the same style. We also ordered garlic bread, which was a little pricey for the amount we received. Our meals were plenty of food, and the mixed grill of meat came with a side of frites (french fries). The meats were a little bland without any seasoning on them, and didn't come with any dipping sauces. But a requested side of mustard fixed that. After our main entrees, we decided to split a dessert and we went with the cheesecake. YUMM! Not overly sweet like many American cheesecakes, but just perfectly balanced. The koffie verkeed, translated as "wrong coffee", which is basically a latte, went great with dessert. The total bill was 84 euro, which included 2 beers, 3 entrees, appetizer, a dessert, and coffee. Not cheap, but not too overly expensive by American standards. I would recommend it, but maybe get the mussels instead of the beefstew or mixed grill.

The owner (I think) was our server as well, he was very kind and our food came promptly and was well prepared, which was great considering he was the only one working. I found the prices to be very fair as well. We sat out on the front patio which just added a nice ambience to a wonderful meal. If we are ever back in Brugge I would stop here again.

Did you say €3 spaghetti? Is it good?…read more Okay, they weren't serving spaghetti when I was there, I could not ask why. I heard from locals that it was good. Instead, this review is on the €3 appletaart, tea, the employees, customers, and the shop itself. Instead of sitting outside, I encourage you to sit inside and get comfortable. It is very cozy. The waitress who served me was very prompt, spoke good English, and apologized for not having the spaghetti that time. I had a late afternoon snack instead [of early dinner]. I had tea with milk and apple pie. My table was beside an old Dutch/Flemish/Belgian (trying to be politically correct here) couple's table who were smiling at me every time I looked their way, sharing a plate of afternoon snack of coffee and pancake (which I heard second best after the spaghetti). I smiled back in courtesy. In bare English, they asked me if my food was good, I replied 'very good'. It was! It was not very sweet and it went well with my tea. It had bits of apples. They too pointed at their pancake and said 'very good'. The sincerity almost convinced me to get an order of pancake but I stopped myself because the appletaart was more than enough. I was told that the owner (or the son who took over the place, maybe a bit hazy on the story of this place due to massive amount of Belgian beer the night before at the hostel), checks on customers. I had a middle age man come ask me if the food was good, and being the satisfied customer that I was, I said 'very good' again. He might have been the owner. He was chatting with some locals in some of the tables, laughing loudly (not rudely). No complaints on the service at all. The location of the restaurant was off the main road of the market. A lot quieter but may get packed during dinner. I wanted to go back for the spaghetti but wasn't able to. :(

This was obvious rubbish considering the 4 open tables with no reservation sign to be found. I went back later for an early dinner, and lo and behold, there were several open tables (Yes, I got the spaghetti). If Braserrie Medard wants to establish itself as a legitimate establishment, then it should learn to treat its customers with respect, regardless of whether they're tourists or not. I understand most of their clientele are locals, but that's no excuse for treating your customers like dirt. Yes, it's true that the spaghetti is cheap, but is that really worth being treated as second-class? You decide.
