I came to this office recently to renew my passport. I got there at 7:30am and was the fifth person in-line. Office opens up exactly at 8:30am. I would suggest going there before 8am so you deal less with waiting. The line definitely started to get crowded after 8am. The security gives you a number with ticket and let's the first 5 go up in the elevator to the second floor to wait about 5-10 minutes ahead of 8:30am. Then after I think they use the computerized system for your number to be called upstairs. If you don't want to be standing downstairs as long, definitely bring a folding chair. I was in and out in 20 minutes when the office opened at 8:30am. Just beware they only accept debit/credit card/tap to pay and not cash. Only cash they accept is if you have a money order. read more

This Passport Canada location is located behind Scarborough Town Centre, just past the TTC bus bays below. When I visited, there was a line forming in the lobby with a security guard there to answer questions, provide forms, and file people into the room with another line. The lines moved fairly quickly. The employee behind the counter checked over my form and looked at my current passport and passport photos, printed a ticket, and instructed that I wait on the second floor for my ticket number to be called. The wait upstairs did not take long. The next employee I saw checked over everything; I paid, and she informed me that my new passport would be mailed out in ten business days. On Facebook, there's a memory feature where you can spotlight a photo from a decade ago versus today. I can do that with this Passport Canada location next to Scarborough Town Centre. Ten years ago, I checked in on Yelp. I was fairly new to Yelp and didn't bother posting tips or a review. Both that visit and my visit last month are pretty vivid that I get to relive both experiences in this review. There is a parking lot next to this office. Ten years ago, it had more parking spots. I was able to easily nab one and pay for parking. Last month, I returned and it was much smaller, thanks to development in the area. I didn't find any parking. Instead, I parked on the street. It was Green P parking. I paid for a three-hour session through the app and needed more time. I was there for nearly four hours. I get my passport reviewed every ten years. I find that you get more bang for your buck going with a longer duration. A ten-year passport is $160. A five-year passport is $120. Splurge and save! Ten years ago, it took me two hours to have my passport application processed on the second floor. I basically walked in, took a number, sat down, waited for my number to appear on the screen, talked to a passport person, paid, got my confirmation slip, and left. Last month, I went in on a Monday at around 11:30 am. I don't recommend it. I was there for nearly four hours. I'd gladly pay $160 for a ten-year passport. It's a better deal and I don't have to go through this process for another decade. When you walk into the office, it's not clear where you should line up. For all Service Canada services, except for passports, head to the left when you walk in. For passport services, you want the long, snake-like lineup on the right. I tried getting an appointment online a month in advance. There weren't any appointments. Things have changed post-COVID-19. I'm guessing that there's still a passport processing backlog. Triage happens on the first floor where I was in the lineup for nearly three hours. I spoke to two folks behind me who had weird concerns. One wanted to book an appointment while in line. I told her my experience booking and told her that she likely wouldn't get an appointment for today. The other wondered why I didn't move forward because there's a break in the line in front of the passport photo centre. I said that the security person waves us through. Sure enough, she waved me and the man to cross over to the second lineup. It's all observations. I had nothing better to do while waiting. Anyway, the man behind me ended up trusting me and we had a good chat to kill time. I got a nice man when I reached the counter. He checked my application and photos. All was great. He gave me a number and I headed up to the second floor. Going to concerts and standing for hours helped. It was nice taking the elevator up to the second floor and plopping myself down in a free chair. If you can't stand for hours, I recommend mailing your application and current passport in. It's not worth sacrificing your health to renew it here. The numbering system was odd. It wasn't sequential. I saw PC102 through PC110, and then it jumped to PC137. Huh? It felt like a random generator was being used just for the fun of it. Somehow, an hour later, my number (well, more alphanumeric) appeared on the screen. I got the person at counter 14. My favourite number. Excellent! He was nice. He processed my application. I paid with a credit card. He let me know that it would take two weeks for my passport to arrive through registered mail. He also noted and sympathized that I was there for four hours. He had those details. I am too patient for my own good. It got me through this process, though. I thanked him, wished him a great day, and left. When I got to the first floor, I needed to use the washroom. There are two sets of washrooms. I used the set on the left that was wheelchair-accessible. I went with closer. It was clean. The problem is that the sensor to open the door is too close to the lock, so you basically have a field day inadvertently opening and closing the door. Not cool. My bladder was happy. I was, too. I walked down the steps and over to my car, in front of the YMCA. It was fine. It's $2.75 an hour. I paid $11 for parking. It wasn't horrible. It's cheap compared to getting a parking ticket. I got my passport from the post office last week. The delivery attempt occurred on Wednesday. I was at work. Picking up my passport was easy. I'm a regular at my local post office. I still presented my photo ID. I then got my envelope. I thanked the nice male clerk (he's the only one) and left. It was cool seeing my redesigned passport. The cover and back are different. It's nice. The security features are cool, too. If you're travelling, your passport must be valid for at least six months before its expiration date. Instructions were unclear. I went up to 2nd floor only to be told that paperwork was verified on main floor. Went downstairs and joined the line (roughly 20 people) just to have my paperwork checked and got a ticket number. Went back to 2nd floor and waited in the seating area. Total time spent: 1 hr and 40 mins. Why is it that when I renewed my passport 10 years ago at the Sheppard & Yonge location, it only took 30 mins from start to finish? I can't imagine why the forms are digitized and yet wait time is longer. The saving grace was that those chairs were comfortable to sit on. read more

A family member required a pre-booked appointment to comply with an application to an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) case. This office handles requests for documents like a temporary resident permit. work permit. study permit. temporary resident visa, visitor record, permanent resident application or a permanent resident card renewal. The 15-minute booking was for fingerprints scanning and a photograph. Upon arrival, we found out the appointment was apparently to stamp the paperwork. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled by the Government for the actual procedure once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. Ugh! Service was professional and efficient. read more

On Tuesday June 25, 2024 my partner and I went to the Passport Office at Scarborough Town Centre to renew our passports. The website suggested that we arrived by 8:30am to reduce wait time but I took a vacation day and didn't want to get up early. We arrived 10:15am and as expected the line was long. There are 3 waiting areas. Area 1 - the first line, Area 2 - the second line to have your documents examined and given a number and Area 3 - 2nd floor - to wait for your number to show on the notice board and have your documents processed. While we were in the line in Area 1, the Security person who was managing the line noticed that I looked uncomfortable (lower back pain) so he offered me a seat in Area 2 while my partner stayed in line. My partner told me that while he was in line, a staff member examined our forms and documents to ensure that they were completed properly. This is very good because if there was an issue, it could be addressed before spending a long time only to be told about it at the counter in Area 2. Three times the processing was stopped because the 2nd floor could not accommodate more people. This was to comply with safety regulations. The wait time was long - we left the office almost 4 hours after arriving. That was the worse part of my experience. Everything else was good. The staff was polite and acted professionally. And to my surprise, my passport arrived by Canada Post on Friday June 28, 2024 - 3 days afterwards! We were told that it should arrive by July 10, 2024. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because the wait time was long but it is understandable because there were many people to process. Passport Canada Service Location is always the place I would go to have my passport renewed. Right by Scarborough Town Centre and Scarborough LRT station so you can either take public transit or park at Scarborough Town Centre during mall hours... Usually I can get in and out in less than 1 hour. Quite acceptable though could be faster or could be worse? I like the new system how they double check making sure you have the right documents. Could be better? Yes! Always room for improvement...... But is the Government... sometimes we just live with it! read more

This was one of the most inefficient systems I've experienced. What is the point of waiting in line for 2.5 hours just for them to take 10 seconds to review your paperwork? Why are there only 1 or 2 employees appointed to this task? Then you have to take another number to wait in another 2.5 hour line up on the second floor! There were only a few chairs for folks to sit, and they are only located on the inside of the office. The line started in the hallway of the building. INCOMPETENCE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. I APPLIED FIR MY CANADIAN PASSPORT IN July it's now December and it's still not ready. I was told it was ready and I could pick it up on December 08. I drove one hour and a half to Scarborough. I live in Peterborough Ontario eighty dollars in gas only to be told when I arrived that it was still not ready. if you are applying for your first Canadian passport expect to wait six months, or more. Parking - Easy to find, following Google Maps. I parked on the paid lot outside the building, I believe it was $1/30 minutes. I arrived here at around 2:15pm on a Friday, so it made sense to pay for 90 minutes, keeping in mind that the office closes at 4:00pm. It's not a huge lot, but there was a decent amount of availability. Entrance - Walking towards the building, I didn't see any signage coming from the parking lot. I followed someone who walked up a set of stairs outside of the building that led to the "1st floor" main entrance. On the left was Service Canada, on the right was a small office for passport photos. To get to the Passport Office, you just had to walk straight towards the elevators (or take the stairs) up to the second floor. Entering Passport Office - Once you get to the entrance, there was a security guard greeting everyone, directing passport applicants to line up on the left, passport pick-ups on the right. Process - The initial line-up was a registration of sorts(?) to ensure that the applications were completed appropriately. There were probably a dozen or so people in front of me and this line took about 15-20 minutes. We were then given a number and off we went to the waiting area. There was a flat screen that showed the numbers being called to different numbered counter. There was also a chime each time a new number flashed on the screen. The office was fairly packed during this time, but I only waited for a little over an hour, which was not bad at all. Once my number was called, it only took 5-8 minutes for the agent to process my application. She was really friendly and we even had a nice conversation during the exchange. According to the timestamp of my parking stub, I made it back to my car with 6 minutes to spare. TLDR - Fairly accessible, friendly and helpful staff (the ones I encountered), everything was straightforward and easy, wait wasn't too bad considering having been here at a busy time. Follow-up - I received my passport in exactly 12 days, even though my receipt indicated that the mail-out date will be 18 days from my visit. The efficiency of this passport office has definately improved over the years. I recently went to renew my passport at this location. From recommendation of other reviews I've seen, I went about half an hour earlier before the opening time so at 7:30 am. There were only about 6-7 people ahead of me. You wait on the ground level and will receive a number and instructions from the security. Once we head upstairs to the second level, I got served almost right away. The clerk at the counter informed me that I will receive the passport in mail in about 2 weeks. I ended up getting the passport in about a weeks time. Very happy about the quick and efficient service! Tip: bring some change for parking because you can no longer park at STD and walk over. read more

This is the most efficient passport service I've been to. Every station you need to go to is in one room so there's no moving back and forth between different rooms. I arrived at 8:35 am and was out the door 9:20 am on a Friday. The actual process of submitting everything for my adult application was only 10-15 mins. I recommend to come as early as possible so you don't increase your wait time and get stuck during rush hour. It's good service here, and a special shout out to Sharon who was so nice and even joked with me as she helped me submit my application. Note, print and fill in forms and have them ready when you come in, it'll make things a lot easier. To pay, debit or credit works. I believe they don't accept cash. If you can't stand waiting for more than 15 mins, which are what most of the complaints and bad reviews are about just submit your application by mail. I paid an extra $110 to have an urgent passport done. They said and wrote down on my receipt that it will be done at 1:00pm. I showed up at 1:30 to pick it up and the lady told me that the printing workers are on lunch break and it won't be done for another half an hour.. 2:00. For spending $315 for a little booklet and not getting it on time, I am so unimpressed and irritated that I wasn't cared for properly in this time of urgency. read more

Amazing experience I was at the Passport office last week and was literally amazed at what I witnessed. The agents were very helpful and super friendly. There was a middle aged Commissionaire with a trim white beard who greeted me with a smile and helped me find my way more than once. There was a couple not playing by the rules, however he was firm but patient in dealing with them and was kinder to them than I would have been. I saw him help several elderly people to their seats and show genuine compassion for them. Everyone near me commented on how sincere he was. One guy said -he's a good man- A black lady actually hugged him when leaving. All I can say is that I was moved. Whoever he is- wherever he came from- I feel better knowing that there are still good people in this world. Bravo, Passport Canada! read more

I must say I was expecting the worse, so I went around 1pm on a Monday to the scarborough town centre office. To my surprise I the entire process too exactly 45 min. 30 of those minutes I spent sitting. I brought my tablet to keep me company, the time by quickly. This review is regarding the Photo Center located on the main floor of the building. I had originally taken my passport photo at Shoppers Drug Mart, however, they didn't leave enough background space around me in the picture (image was taken too close & resulted in it being too big). I had already gotten a number & didn't want to have to give up my space and get a new number in order to re-due my picture, (The Passport Center opened at 8am, I arrived at 8:10 but the place was already semi-packed. My advice come early as it appears that people start lining up before the office even opens). I Spoke with one of the security guards on hand & found out that there was a photo center in the same building on the main floor. He advised me that if I hurried, I might make it before my number was called (he also told me to come find him if I went & didn't make it back in time). The Photo Center was super easy to find (just follow the yellow sign located near the security desk around the elevators. It's off to your right when you enter the building through the revolving doors). The lady that assisted me there was so nice. She was funny, quick & efficient (got a great photo on the 1st try). She also gave me tips on how to take a better picture. (It's just a photo but who wants a mug shot, lol). I was in & out so fast I got back in with time to spare. Their rates were the same as Shoppers Drug Mart, $14.99. Overall I was happy with my experience at the Photo Center. read more

Staff working there are helpful, however from lining up and experiencing myself. The staff working at the desk are rude and they give attitude. They probably treat their dogs with more politeness than people actually paying $100+ to get their passport done. I am sad to confirm that the stereotype of rude Government employee is on point with the employees working in this facility. read more

It's tough to find parking nearby, especially if you go early. The crowds rather wait until they open the parking lot at the nearby mall, around 10 am, so at least the lineups are not too bad earlier in the morning. It took me a total of 40 min wait for the bingo board to call my number. It is as efficient as a government service location can be, so no complaints from me. By the time I left, there was a fairly big lineup just to get the calling number. Busy but doable. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at my first visit to this office. Some one asked if my form was filled out, passed me on to someone who checked the information and then gave me my number and told me where to check for it to come up. Someone else pointed out the waiting area. Every seat in the place was full, yet I was out in about 45 minutes. The lady who looked after me was pleasant and chatted, but not enough to slow her down, and I think I was only at her window for about 5 minutes, and everything was complete. I noticed one of the security guards (quite elderly himself) escorting those who seemed lost to find a seat, and giving an arm to an elderly lady, who was partially crippled, and finding her a seat in the front row. I have been to other Service Canada offices, and have always had a good experience. If you are impatient, please do not take it out on those who serve us. read more

Normally I'm too busy to be writing reviews online but I felt the need to because one agent here in particular verbally harassed my reference all the while lying to me "your reference is not picking up her phone"... agent was also snickering and laughing at me (I guess this is a by product of zero accountability in the Canadian government at large). Of course, I've filed a complaint against him though I highly doubt Passport Canada will do anything given the quality of agents at this location. Very outdated service and horrible employees - you have to line up to get your number, and then you have to line up to get approved for your application. Are all government service offices like this? Or is it only in Scarborough and the ghetto neighbourhoods that enjoys making people waste time? I wasted more than an hour there and once I got to the booth to get my passport renewed, it got rejected for showing a bit of tooth in my pictures. The ladies in charge of getting your number should have thoroughly checked my photos before I had to waste more time waiting to get approved AND rejected. By the time I got my photo retaken, the office closed. Never going back here again. read more
