Quick friendly service. It felt like I had stepped into a neighboring farmers kitchen for Sunday supper. The special was apple cider chicken (pulled meat) that included classically overcooked green beans and (not lumpy) mashed potatoes. There was an amazing, huge garlic bread roll that was lovely. The shop was cute but pricey, but omg the cider mill is so amazing. You smell fresh apples as soon as you walk in. The donuts are delicious and soft, the caramel apple cookie is amazing!!! I bought a raspberry pie and omg it is so good! I love this cider mill and I saw someone eating pizza and it looked so delicious, I can't wait to go back and try some!! Plan to get a to-go box because it's so much good food! There's a great selection of salads; had Caesar Salad that was HUGE, fresh, and delicious with crispy chicken breast. The croutons made it extra crunchy and savory. Onion rings were piping hot, crunchy and tender inside; but the rings needed to be salted. Service. Can't beat it: server was engaged, friendly, and very hospitable. She was on top of all things; food came quick, and she didn't make us feel rushed. Bill came timely too. Atmosphere. Country cozy with lots of old antique decor; ceiling fans were quiet and kept the temperature perfect. The connected cafe sells homemade baked goods (bread, pies, dumplings, etc.), ice cream, cider, coffee, candies, and other goods. Dining area overlooks the apple orchard and fields. Lavatory. It is located just inside of the apple cider mill, connected to the cafe store, along north side. It was clean, stocked, and not too cold. Water gets hot immediately. Overall. The store is a great place to shop for unique gifts. Staff was kind and helpful. We called ahead of time to order 2 quesadillas to go . The one girl taking orders on the phone had no idea how to take an order. Figured she was new , fine. At the end of the phone we agreed to to two quesadillas to go and she took our name. When we got there to pick up our order, the older lady came out of the kitchen and yelled that we did NOT order quesadillas because we did not leave our phone number. We were never asked for our phone number or else we would have gave it. I can almost understand, not having our order ready , when we got there, however, I will never understand how that lady was so rude and disrespectful. I wish she could of used her nice voice to explain to us .We passed many nice places to come there to eat , we wont do that again Kind is the new cool. read more

From all of the reviews my family and I were super excited to try this place out. The menu is different than the online version. Very pared down which I can expect after Covid. But what I can't excuse is the poor service and it taking over 30 min after we ordered to get our food. Never being offered refills or dessert. She just dropped the check and left. We went to Past Tense yesterday for our 29th Wedding Anniversary. We have been there a few times before in the past. Still throughly enjoy the Country Store and bought donuts for our breakfast this morning. Also we had dinner there. The Sunday Special was Cod and my husband enjoyed it. I saw pasties on the menu which was the first time I noticed them on the menu. Thought about getting a sandwich as I had in the past and I should have stuck with the sandwich idea, That was the worse tasting and smelling pastie that I've ever purchased. Putting lots of ketchup on the inside portion was the only way I could eat it. The pastry part was thick, tough and almost could not cut it open. We had eaten there before and it always was fantastic so just don't order a pastie. Everyone at both the Cider Milk and Country Store were very friendly and helpful. we will definitely go back again...just won't order a pastie. read more

Super cute cider mill if you happen to be in the area. First came here during October so they had the hay rides and all the games for the kids set up! Hot cider and donuts! We order something from Past Tense often so this is more of a general review than a review about a specific time. Great cinnamon sugar donuts and decent cider if you're feeling indulgent the donut sundae with the carmel topping is especially divine! They are more of a home-town place so don't go here when you're in a hurry. The delivery is also spotty on accuracy but with the limited options around here I'm willing to keep giving them chances. read more

A new experience in a new place. The country store was great but the restaurant was another story. Our waiter just told us to sit down. No menus, nothing. He then seats two other tables and takes their drink orders. When we call this to his attention, he apologizes and STILL walks away without asking about drinks. There must only be seven or eight tables in the entire restaurant. We get up to go somewhere else and the waitress apologized, which was appreciated. She was very polite about the situation. We bought our cider and doughnuts and left. Granted, we have no idea on this guy's story, but there is never an excuse to be rude in the food industry. read more

One of Lapeer's treasures! I always take visitors here to see the store and grab a sweet snack - usually some apple cider or a bite of fudge. Took my family out to eat at the restaurant and was very pleasantly surprised at how great everything was! Also fed 5 people for less than $60. Can't beat that! read more

Wanted to comment on the food prepared there and the restaurant. I was served a pizza that has a very large black fly baked right on the top. It was obvious to me when they set it on the table. There were A LOT of flies buzzing around the food prep. Disgusting. read more

The food here is still fantastic. My husband and I love to stop by for pizza and sandwiches, which are always fresh and delicious. We at least get donuts and cider (still the best cider around!) everytime we stop by this place. The only negative things we've experienced is one of the newer waitresses (young thin girl, blonde hair last I saw her) was extremely slow and not very friendly. Multiple other tables were served that arrived after us before we even got our appetizer (1 order of onion rings) she hardly ever came back to check on us, didn't even ask if everything was ok after we got our food. On the other hand the mid-aged waitress is awesome, she's fast and friendly. So if your in a rush and get the young waitress you should probably just get food to go or come back another time. Don't let one bad waitress stop you from enjoying the delicious food here! read more

We were so excited to visit our local cider mill and little diner. We were here 3 years ago and our 2nd trip reminded us why we had not been back. Ugh! I want to rave about this cute little place but I am stretching to give it a 2. The restaurant took more than 45 min to get us our food. ALL 3 of our orders were wrong, but we did not DARE send them back for fear of having to wait another hour. When I asked the counter worker if I could buy utility apples she looked at me as though I had 3 heads and told me no. Then she proceeded to tell me they use their utilities for their cider and even buy other utilities from surrounding mills. In other words....they don't produce enough apples to make their own cider and have to buy from apples from surrounding mills. The band outside was so loud and sooooooo old we couldn't stomach being outside. We grabbed our cider and donuts and hit the road. The cider was good. The donuts were not warm. When we asked for warm donuts we were told they were not making them. It was only 1:30 in the afternoon. It made us wonder if they outsourced their donuts also. Wish I could give a good review but it just isn't going to happen for this local spot. Sorry. read more

I stopped in as we were passing through the area...the antiques are fairly priced and the selection of teas is very impressive. I gave the one star for the worst meal I've ever had!! Pizza lunch special was a personal pizza, bread stick, and pop. Well the special was "wrong", because the bread stick isn't included? Yet explain to me why not cause it's pictured in the special... I'm sure it would have been as tasteless as the pizza anyway!! On top of the below average food, the wait staff is completely overwhelmed with just a couple of tables and can't remember a drink order to save their life; we're talking pop not fancy drinks or anything they had to actually make!! Took so long to get our order that we considered leaving, because we were sure the order was misplaced. To top it off the waitress dropped the bill off and then when we tried to pay her she told us to pay at the desk...try saying that when you drop the bill off and we wouldn't have waited for you!!! Ugh, just stupid and crap food. Not to mention, when we were leaving and paying at the desk we caught a glimpse of the cook/prep area and it not only looked disgusting, but everyone is sitting around!?
