Located a few…read moreblocks from the center of Oak Harbor, it's worth the slight detour to check out their wealth of treasures, all of which are well-marked, well-presented, and well-priced. They have everything from vintage knick knacks to toys to books to small furniture. And clothes, TONS of clothes, all organized by size, style, season...you name it. They also have a large selection of household items, like dishes, bedding, towels, and small appliances. One thing I really appreciate is that they have dressing rooms so you can try things on! Some larger thrift stores have done completely away with this option, and while I understand why, I appreciate the ones who still have them. The line can get a little long at the counter, so keep that in mind if you're there on a busy day. But if you want a great thrifting experience, and to support a lovely small town business, definitely give Island Thrift a try!

Came to this thrift store for the first time today and while I was looking through one of the racks…read moreone of the workers, an Asian woman with big eyeglasses came out of nowhere, practically running up on me and told me she was working on that rack. She looked very visibly angry when saying this. I apologized and told her that I genuinely thought this was one of the racks on display in the store and backed off it. I hadn't been here before so I didn't know the layout of the store. She didn't say anything to me after that and hurried off away? I tried to go through the rest of the store but, after that the vibe was just off and I had to leave. Not sure if I will come back. At least not for awhile. Overall the store is very organized and clean. The clothing selection isn't the most stylish but, they can't help want gets donated to them. Would have liked it more if my visit had been better.

And though I'd driven past this mall many times, I finally stopped in a few weeks ago. What a neat place! It's not the biggest antique mall ever, but the booths (most of which are pretty small) are generally well organized and full of interesting finds. Some have themes (like kitchen, or mid-century), and there are all sorts of vintage items throughout. Clothing, toys, furniture, sporting goods, baskets, automotive... you name it and it's probably in here. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here, and the fact all the booths I visited were clean, stocked, and well organized. I'll definitely be adding this to my regular rotation for vintage shopping!

I took a lamp here that I had tried (unsuccessfully) to rewire myself. The original design was very…read moreprecarious and when I took it apart, I found the previous owner had really crammed any and everything they could to get this lamp upright and working. They had cut the bottom open crudely with a soldering iron and left it open and jagged. The lamp was always crooked, wobbling, tilted, and never screwed tight so I thought I would definitely improve it after rewiring it but- I could not figure out how to put it back together and so it sat in pieces, my beautiful lamp, in the back of my car for years. I wish I had taken pictures of it before I brought it to Pat Eggings in a bucket. Just so you could see the stark comparison of my sad lamp reduced to nuts, bolts, vintage brown glass globes, bronze/brass pillars, to this sturdy, solid and completely restored piece of art. He even put a perfectly cut slab of masonite on the bottom to safely close the jagged opening that had been carved on the bottom. The price was very reasonable and I will happily come to them with all my lamp repair needs! Of course it's also a great place to shop for one of a kind antiques and collectibles. Thank you so much!

A funny thing happened while I was shopping in this cute gift shop, it dawned on me that Coupeville…read morewas the home to where the movie Practical Magic was filmed! I, ironically enough, had watched the movie on the flight across the country to the PNW! I was wandering the shop and saw numerous Practical Magic movie items, like sweatshirts, mugs, stickers and more! I snagged a couple of decals- one with a salt shaker, a rosemary sprig, lavender bunch & a heart to celebrate the quote from the movie- Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder, Keep rosemary by your garden gate, Plant lavender for luck, And fall in love whenever you can. I saw the sticker and recited the quote in my head while continuing around the store. The lady at the register confirmed my suspicion & the same building I was in had been the bath shop for Sally's character! I walked outside and saw the small, downtown street in a completely new way. I was enchanted even more!

I was recently in Anacortes and spotted a brand new (to me) thrift shop. So, of course, I had to…read morestop in! What a cute little place. They have pretty much everything - from kitchen items and clothes, to books, tools, art, and even some small furniture items. They also have a small vintage section full of glass and other decor items. Prices, in general, were a little on the high side - though I supposed that describes most stores these days. I started in the kitchen area, where I picked up a couple of knick knacks for my travel trailer. Then I headed to what was a pretty impressive tool section. Although most of the tools were in pretty rough shape, and on the electric items there was no indication as to whether they'd been tested or not. I also checked out the books and, of course, the surprisingly thorough sewing and craft section. I ended with a trip through the very large clothing section, where I also noticed they have quite a great selection of interesting artwork too. Checkout was kinda weird, as there were extra employees (or maybe they were just friends of employees?) hanging out at the cashier area gossiping. I actually had to sort of make my presence known, even though I was the only customer in the shop. It felt awkward, like I was interrupting a private conversation. Kinda weird! I'll probably stop back next time I'm in Anacortes, as it seems like the kind of place that's probably regularly getting some interesting items on their shelves. Maybe the cashier's chit-chatty friends will have gone home by then.
