It serves as the main courthouse for Florida's 13th Judicial Circuit and features a bronze bust of Edgecomb in its lobby, as well as a Lady Justice statue outside its front doors. Florida's Thirteenth District Court goes back to the earliest courthouse for Hillsborough County that was a log cabin that was destroyed during the Second Seminole War. There was a replacement built in 1847. That was replaced by a red brick courthouse in 1892 and then a 1952 courthouse. In 1999, the Commissioners gave final approval for the latest Courthouse Facilities Project, which provided for new construction and renovation of existing buildings in downtown Tampa. The new construction, in 2004, included a six-story Family/Civil Court Building, which provides over 268,000 gross square feet of space for the courts and related agencies. This pile of blah replaced the gorgeous J.A.Wood Courthouse that once stood across from City Hall.They pulled it down in the 1950s in favor of this epic failure. There are a few architectural details that are not total suck - the entry facade has a nice mid century monumentalism to it, the ceiling in the jury selection room has a cool amoeba coffer. The east and west wings have some interesting streamline window eyebrows... But yeah, thats about it. No one will miss this thing if and when it is demolished.

When I arrived at the clerk's office on the 2nd floor I took a number. My number was called 2 minutes later. Isabella was completely knowledgeable and cut through my confusion with a few well worded sentences, and even managed to save me a few dollars as well, which is always welcome. I left clutching an instruction sheet with all the items pertaining to my situation highlighted. Wow! I have mentioned in the past the legendary lines and wait times of government offices in my home town of Chicago, and how Pinellas County Florida government offices are the exact opposite of what I'm used to. They called my husband up to take his fingerprints within ten minutes of us arriving and filling out a very simple form. I can only speak to the speediness of the biometrics office, but our experience was way better than we could have hoped for a government department. If you've been dreading an appointment here, definitely try to schedule on a weekday and arrive early. It makes the process so much less stressful.

The court has shown a bias and now trying to force a hearing on short notice right after a judge had to recuse him self. The court/judge has made it a hostile environment. I don't have money for legal and I was pro se. But now I know the out come because of previous judge's comments.

The building was clean, stately, & easy to find your way around. The offices & staff were friendly & helpful. For traffic night court in a small city it had many more people than I have ever seen in Tampa. Per usual, many officers did not show up & those cases were dismissed. I was lucky...my officer showed up & was not going to let the matter drop. The judge was GREAT! He explained everything in detail & really listened to each case individually & in my humble opinion made fair & accurate assessments. What's a girl to do? Sometimes you need to fight for justice & win!

Unless you're coming to court to work and earn a living, courthouses probably aren't a place where most people would prefer to be on any given day. If you do have to go to the courthouse for any reason, be aware that the doors do not open until 8 a.m. As of the date of this review, also be aware they do not have free Wi-Fi, or any Wi-Fi at all, and there really isn't any place in the courthouse to sit down and have a nice bite to eat. So if you go, and you may have to sit around and wait for a little while, either bring an old-school paperback book or make sure you download your books before you get there. Also eat first, or bring a snack.
