This is a huge Patel Brothers store in Jackson Heights area. It is spacious, frozen goods are on the left side, veggies and fruits are right side including checkout lanes. At the back they have the grocery goods like rice, snack, masala, tea, coffee, candies and so much more. The store is mostly clean, but some areas have little mess and dirt. The prices appeared decent to me. The pickle section didn't have the variety I was expecting. I saw multiple associates tidying up different sections of the store and restocking the inventories. There were several checkout lanes open to quickly move the lines. The long lines clearly indicated that the store was really popular among the locals. read more

Love visiting the Patel Brothers for groceries from time to time. They have a great selection of fresh produce and a large variety of spices. My sister and I enjoy browsing through the snack aisle since there's a large selection of Indian snacks. I also found the instant Cardamom chai latte here, which is my guilty pleasure. There are other Indian grocery stores that are cheaper around the area but Patel Brothers is definitely bigger and has most of the necessities. read more

An Indian would feel at home shopping at Patel Brothers in Jackson Heights. This is a large supermarket with branches all over America. Fresh vegetables like bhindi (okra) from California which is similar to the ones available in India to kari patha (curry leaves), eggplants, green long beans to name a few. Refrigerated and frozen foods (think paneer, khoya, assorted rotis, frozen entrées) are sold. Let's not forget dessert! Indian ice creams like the famous Vadilal are sold here in cups and huge tubs and frozen rasmalai. Parle Glucose biscuits, famous and ubiquitous in India are also here and perfect with a cup of hot chai. During the summer months Indian mangoes are flown in for about six weeks and sold by the box. Granted they are exorbitant at $30 a box but both the aroma and taste transports one instantly to India. Other mangoes frim Haiti and the Dominican Republic are also delicious and sold here for $8-$12 a box. I have bought both several times to eat and share. Do you have a large family? Then the enormous bags of onions, rice and wheat are sold in huge gunny bags and are here for you. Spices, teas, pickles, lotions and potions and the famous coconut oil to nourish hair are also stocked here. Both cash and credit cards are accepted with a slight discount for cash payments. Patel Brothers is open seven days of the week and is well known in the South Asian community. I go there as often as I can. Worth every penny. read more

I went there to the Jackson Heights stores when I lived in NYC. I wanted to pick up some ingredients for an Indian dish I was going to try to make for the first time. The store was large, well lit, and had more than I could ask for. The service was also rather good, and far better than the rude treatment one often gets at the Chinese groceries. All-in-all a good experience. Did not go there more than a couple of times as South Asian cuisine is not really my forte, but still it was fun going there. read more

Price point, cleanliness and selection of items is all great. If you ask anyone for anything they will help. Going by Indian store standards, I haven't had a problem with any service (they don't smile as much as American stores but doesn't bother me ;)). I know that there are many locations in the Mid-Atlantic, however, I had never visited a Patel Brothers before. The selection of items is substantial. I have been shopping at Patel brothers in Jackson heights for well over 16 years. And in all these years, I have had a good experience and I have found all the Indian products I have needed. However today, I encountered a cashier Sejal who argued with me incessantly and asked me to " get out of the store". Her rudeness was uncalled for. She even started cursing me in Hindi which I understand and speak. Patel Brothers could do a lot better with hiring staff that are trained to be civil rather than abuse customers. Patel Brothers has been my top go-to grocery store in Queens for years. Great selection of super fresh produce, a huge variety of spices, and large bags of raw nuts/beans/rice, all at very competitive prices. One of my favorite things to get at Patel is their fresh mint leaves. Can't find mint this fresh or at this awesome of a price anywhere else. It is always busy in this store for a good reason! But the lines move fast. Very much worth a trip in from the city to go to, and if you live in the Jackson Heights area, I can't imagine why you would want to shop anywhere else! read more

You know a place is legit when Padma Lakshmi is there shopping with her mom and filming a show for Hulu. I had no idea this place existed, but my friend had been before and he dragged me along. This place is spice heaven. It's not strictly a restaurant supply store, but it could very well be. Almost everything is available in bulk. Need 7 lbs of chickpeas? They've got you covered. Every spice under the sun (and some in giant jugs)? Yup. They even have an entire two-sided aisle of all different types of rice. We picked up some spices, chilis, and some roasted chickpeas, but I could've stayed here all day looking at stuff. read more

We ran out of turmeric and dry red peppers the other evening and everything stopped. So made quick stop by the local supermarket and were we disappointed. The supermarket charged about $4 for only 3 oz. of turmeric and the dry peppers flakes was probably packaged a couple of years ago. So road trip over to Patel Brothers in Jackson Height. We were so happy to get a giant 32 oz. bag of fresh turmeric for about the same price and nice bag of dry red peppers. And since we were there we grabbed a bag of grounded flax seed and bags of different rice. All great prices! THE supermarket to go to for Indian groceries. Part of a home grown national chain with stores in nearly 20 states, the Jackson Heights location is the larger of two in Queens and only ones in NYC, and by far the better shopping experience courtesy of renovation and expansion a few years ago. Working off a theme of Indian food for a large scale dinner party, a cuisine I've never tried seriously to cook before, I've become very familiar with shopping at Patel Brothers. Wide aisles, high ceilings, and very bright lights keep it from being claustrophobic, what with the endless crowds who shop there. Ubiquitous staff are always swift to notice someone staring dumbfounded at a wall of spices, grains, sauces, and more, and offer to locate items, even explain them, making this that rare ethnic goods supermarket that is accessible to all. As for their wares, note they do not carry fresh meat or seafood, but have virtually everything else needed to make an Indian meal, many of them the house brand, Swad. Very impressive is their aforementioned wall of spices, at the back of the store, neatly portioned in varying size packages, some whole and ground. I've picked up cumin and cumin seeds, mustards seeds, garam masala, turmeric, cardamom, and ground coriander, but there that barely touches on their selection. Adjacent are grains in spectrums of gold, red, brown, black, and white. There are shelves of nuts, starches, jarred sauces, vegetables, and canned everything. One side of an aisle is filled with large bags of rice. Refrigerators and freezers stock frozen foods and ingredients. More walls of boxed powdered sauces for a quick prepared meal. Best of all, there's a robust fresh produce section of harder to find vegetables and herbs. I've seen curry and fenugreek leaves, Indian bitter melon, turmeric, little Indian eggplants (and the Thai variety too!), a medley of green bean varietals, various goards, and much more. I'm far from knowledgeable enough to know if they're as comprehensive as I think they are, but I'll bank they're about as good as you'll get in NYC. read more

There are a few Patel Brothers grocery stores, but this is the only one I've been to. They look to be well stocked with many items, but what I come for mainly is the mangoes. They're only second to fresh home grown mangoes I've had in Miami. They have a wide variety of indian spices, produce and other Indian staples. This includes two men who seem to be supervisors or managers, walking around the store with no masks in sight. We live in a dense neighborhood that has been very affected by COVID-- this is not safe. This is a great market that is an essential stop for any Queens adventure. A particularly wonderful aspect is that the selection is so large that you can often find whatever you want at several price levels. For instance, we always grab kati rolls to take home with us and we can choose from 3 or 4 different entire lines of the product, from very inexpensive everyday fare to more gourmet fancy versions. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the kind of spot that makes New York City still worth living in. Nice, clean and bright layout. Aisles are spacious enough, however I was walking around without a cart. Wish the employees were a bit more pleasant and it'll be a five star market. Firstly the various spice choices runs deep. Also in many packaging forms. Small containers for house hold needs to large bags that can satisfy commercial needs. I bought a bunch of spices I've never really new existed. Very very eye opening experience. Similar to spices they have a few chutneys (mint, parsley, ginger/garlic, etc combo) in jars. Very useful so you don't have to make it at home. Took a quick look at the fruit/veggie aisle. Looks pretty standard. Noticed they have non-frozen chili peppers at a ridiculously low price. Picked up a bag full. Enjoyed browsing but the original reason I came was to pick up paratha (a circular flat bread, similar to chinese scallion pancakes without the scallion). They sell packs of 25, in the frozen aisle. Originally bought at an Indian grocery and they only carried packs of 6 or 7. Great for breakfast with a thin omelette you can roll it up in. read more

If you live in the outer borough and you really have no idea where to find the Mashla or the okra or the Indian utensils then just coffee to jackson heights and go straight here. It has everything and anything you may need. From all fresh vegetables to every frozen item such as pakora, daal roti, etc. Whatever spices you would like to make curry, biryani, puhlah, etc you will find it here. Service here isn't bad but it's not the greatest. They do answer all questions but with recent renovations everyone pace seemed to increase by ten folds. Weekend would be the worst time for you to come here to do any sort shopping. That is when people from NJ and LI come to do their shopping. So expect a massive crowd and no where to move around for the woke tone shopping there. That being said their new renovations and upgrades allows them to put many more things but take away from the little space they already had. So definitely come early and know what you are looking for. The surrounding area gives you another reason to come. This is what I call as Brown central so different varieties of Indian food as well growing areas of Tibetan, Nepali, etc creates a dining experience you will surely enjoy. Patel Brothers is three things: huge, crowded, and I can always find things I have never, ever heard of. Huge: it is a sizable store for NYC, especially since most of the stores on 74th st are particularly small. It is however, somehow not large enough for the next point... Crowded: It is super-crowded. There are a dozen registers and it will still have long lines. It is crowded largely on the weekend or any other time you'd like to shop there. Things I have never, ever heard of: This is probably the main reason I go, making the fact that it's crowded generally not that big of a deal. There is an entire aisle of crunchy tasty snacks, about half of which are probably too spicy for you. In the produce section, every third item is a fruit or vegetable that might well be from outer space. I'm not kidding when I say I would like to eat this grocery, walls and all. That said, I'll probably get indigestion. read more
