I was a little nervous coming here because of the comments about lecherous men, but maybe those people got fired; I came here on a weekday afternoon and the staff was polite and helpful. No one followed me around creepily or stared at me. I came here with the mission of getting aji amarillo; unfortunately, the veggie staff member I asked thought I literally meant yellow peppers so he pointed me towards some fresh yellow peppers; I ended up finding aji amarillo in the frozen section. There is this incredible aisle of Peruvian goods in the Latin section, and I found dried purple corn (for making chicha morada), a bottle of chicha morada that my Peruvian friend said was authentic, huacatay paste, and aji amarillo paste. There were more Mexican peppers than I've ever seen in my life and I found unmarked oregano in a package for $2.49. I'm excited to come back for my Latin shopping. read more

I went out of my way to visit Mi Tierra on Roosevelt to stock up on Latin American specialties. Living in Queens I totally understand language issues when visiting ethnic stores, but never have I encountered a manager so rude! I was shopping with my family when my youngest had a bathroom emergency so I asked the store manager if we could borrow the facilities. He said it's only staff or customers who had paid. I told him my husband is currently shopping and it is an emergency. He asked whether that's really true or I was lying. I was so livid I told my husband to leave the shopping and we walked out of the store. read more

It must absolutely suck to work here if you're female because both the delivery men and the men on staff here will follow you around if you're a woman so that they can check you out. It's ridiculous how if I enter with a shapeless coat and gym pants on and they'll literally gawk and walk along the window or follow me from aisle to aisle in pairs. It's really pathetic, unwarranted and makes me feel super uncomfortable. Then of course there is the inevitable, "Hola mami!" and/or "que buena estas!" along with other comments that I feel would be inappropriate even for Yelp. Also, don't think that I'm acting as if their world revolves around me - I have seen these men pull these antics with PLENTY other women as. I once saw 2 of their employees hit on and gawk at a woman who was struggling to push her baby stroller into the entrance. Yes, she was really pretty - but how about helping her instead of gawking, muttering and giggling like teenie boppers at Justin Bieber concert?! Do these people not have sisters, girlfriends, wives, daughters? They would be the first ones to start fights in a jealous rage if someone were to disrespect their women. I'm really not a fan of this supermarket to begin with and sure, I can just not come here - but I had to walk by this place everyday during morning deliveries to get to my bus/train so I can go to work. It's ridiculous to think that I should have to even consider changing my morning work commute because these piss poor excuses for men don't know how to behave like civilized human beings - which is a shame because the market isn't thaaaaaat bad (despite managers occasionally deciding to not honor sale advertisements and their boxed foods like cereal, cookies, etc. is often covered in a generous layer of dust... #eyeroll #vom) but it's pretty ridiculous in the mornings, so much so that I'm even tempted to contact their corporate offices to file a complaint...but who knows what that would do, I can't even find a corporate office for them. We were in the area checking out restaurants and saw this unique super market. In my opinion it is cleaner than most super markets in NYC and since it is an ethnic super market cleaner than most ethnic super markets have been in. They have all kinds of unique produce and ethnic grocery items as well as regular grocery items. They have TV's in the window and the weather and time is displayed digitally as well. I'm not an expert on Latin American cuisine (though I'm learning the more I travel and try new recipes as well), but it seems per other reviewers on here, this place is the spot. I went here for the first time today to get some lucuma puree to send my mom (we went to Peru together and ever since she's been obsessed with anything lucuma), and I came out with several bags full of fruits and chiles from Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia as well as hot sauce, candies, and two packages of the lucuma puree. The store is well organized, clean, and the aisles are wide enough that it didn't feel cramped walking around there despite it being busy. The prices seemed pretty good especially for the produce- though I haven't personally done much comparison shopping in the area (I live in Astoria). I definitely plan to come back though! Great place if you're searching for ethnic food products. This place carries most South American needs, whether is be Peru, Brazil, Columbia or any other Latin American country. Though the place does seem quite big from the outside, it tends to get very crowded with it's small aisles inside the market. Also, if you don't live in the area then it maybe a bit hard to find parking on the main street with all the hustle and bustle in the area and you might want to check out the other location on Northern Blvd. (which carries fresh seafood). Being that I love close by and have stopped going to C-Town (horrible customer service), I stop by here from time to time. If you're a foodie like me and love to cook, this is a great place to pick up some unique ingredients and get your chef hat on! read more

About 3 blocks from the Number 7 subway, and 24 short blocks from the LIRR, this store is a good find if you are looking for produce and packaged items from Central and South American countries. Aisles are a pretty tight, so take your time and re-live a great vacation, or just simply pick up whatever you are in need of. It is one of the few, larger supermarkets on Roosevelt Ave. Sale prices are pretty good, too. read more

The Mi Tierra on Northern Blvd doesn't compare to this huge supermarket located on Roosevelt. It has a better selection, everything you need to make your Latin dishes. I definitely need to go and restock my fresh/dried chilies. I always use them for chili, and of course, when I'm cooking Mexican food. They have so many varieties unlike the other markets in the area. Aisles are tight, but they're trying to pack in so many products from all these countries. The meat and produce here are def. better than what you will find on northern blvd. I love walking around, finding things I've never tried before. It's really out of my way, but worth the hassle especially since I'm trying to make a lot of authentic Ecuadorian dishes. Prices are great, compared to supermarkets in my area. There's no need to bring back items from these Latin countries when most are available right here. If only they were closer, I'd shop here all the time. read more

Praise Jesus that I found Mi Tierra Supermarket! It's like the Hispanic version of Whole Foods. Que Bueno. They have so much great produce at reasonable prices. I live in Woodside and have been suffering for seven months trying to find a one stop shop grocery store with decent produce. I'm sick of "just on the edge" or flat out rotting, damaged produce from Key Food and local bodegas. Sure this place is jammed packed full of people during peak shopping hours. It's clean, new, and has everything you need including Ecuadorian, Honduran, Mexican, Colombian, etc specialty goods. I chose to swing by at 9pm on a Saturday night because it would be dead. Sure I rarely will shop at this time again, but it beats the pandemonium on weekends and after work. Must check out the fish section too. Whole fish on ice had clear eyes and didn't smell like fish....so that's two big pluses. Oh and they are open until 10pm every night. Go check it out. read more

I am not really interested in going there anymore - would prefer to shop for produce at the local produce markets (one of my faves is just nearby - called Mango Rico). I think that Met Food - which, granted, is a good 10 blocks from this place-- is much better. If you live nearby to Mi Tierra I guess it's not a bad option. Just not great. read more

I used to go all the way to Chinatown to get inexpensive produce, but no longer..I now simply walk 4 blocks to a much cleaner place to get my produce. read more

I get the citrus here. I get tangerine--6 for a dollar. I get sunkist oranges--5 for a dollar. It gets crazy in here on the weekend when they can limit sale item to one per shopping family--a real bummer. The lines are long on the weekends. read more

Hi, I stopped in for Progresso soup and it was 10cents less than Met Foods, also an improvement over the old Met Foods, which was dark and had lousy produce. The store has interesting foods, many of which I am not familiar, but I will walk an extra few blocks, to go to a bright and shiny grocery. It seems to have a nice variety of produce. Cashier and the supervisor by name "Frankie" denied 10% Senior Citizen Discount on "marked down" for quick sale fruits. Those kind of reduced (because of their below standard quality) products are not included in the list of regular products on weekly sale and therefore should be available for 10% Senior Discount. When I was asking for the supervisor - an employees who was working over there replied to me that they are not speaking English. It is very upsetting that people embraced in our country and helped in any way possible - so coldly rude to the senior who had to purchase kind of products never purchased by recipients of food stamps. read more

I love this supermarket! What a refreshing addition to the Roosevelt area for food shopping. Why do I love this market?? it's a small market with little treasures. They have good sales on their produce and it is clean and fresh. Can you believe medium sized pumpkins were $1.99 this week?!? I was blown away! Not to mention that I also went at closing time to get more at the last minute for a pumpkin carving party and the manager was nice to let me in while serving the last customers on line. I was in Manhattan 2 wks earlier and saw pumpkins in the grocery stands selling for $15 to $20! They were bigger sized pumpkins but come on folks...really! It's still a squash but the only difference is you will be gutting it out and sticking a candle in it, not making pumpkin bisque. :-)o Ok, back at the ranch....there are also many Spanish staple items that are nicely priced if you use it in every dish or meal. For example, avocados $0.89, limes 10 or 15 for $1.00. Of course, fresh corn tortillas are available near the dairy section. There are many brands to choose from ranging from $0.89 to $1.45. I wish someone could recommend a good brand of corn tortillas brand (corn tortillas that don't break when heated up or taste too floury...I was spoiled eating with the Mayans in Mexico on vacay). In addition, fruits are well priced overall, definitely competitive with grocery stands. But I like not having to shop outdoors and fight the crowds. I also don't like all my onions and tomatoes prebagged that are often found in outdoor grocery stands. The only small complaint about the Mi Tierra fruits was the red grapes were over ripe and all the bags were leaky..maybe a bad stock because it was like that for 2 wks. I wouldn't put that on the shelf to sell. The fresh seafood can be found in a small section to the left of the store. It is well maintained and has the essentials of salmon, tuna, shrimp, calamari, and mussels etc... I have purchased the mussels there a few times and I must say that it is fresh. Unlike shopping at the big chains where I have gotten "fishy" seafood, these mussels were great each time. I haven't purchased meats but looks fresh in package. The prices were competitive to average. For meats, I usually enjoy shopping at big chains like Stop n Shop for better savings and varieties. Oh, they have a fresh bread/rolls section that I like...great varieties of fresh rolls. I keep getting the square dark ones (only 3/$1.00!!)... think it's whole wheat. But I will get some other varieties next time because it's so fresh. I know this because I come at night and there is nothing left in the bins. The only thing is maybe they can display the fresh bread better. The bins are full of crumbs and dark so not so eye catching. But at least the stock is moving! hahaha Btw, I tried their store brand "Krasdale" Extra Sharp Cheddar and this is sooo good. It's better than some of the major brands that i have tried in terms of taste and texture. This cheddar is a rich in taste, definitely x-tra sharp but not dry and very smooth. The store brand sour cream is awesome too. Best thing, I didn't know they were on sale but 8 oz cheddar brick was $1.66! Sour cream was less than $1.50! Little surprises that make me happy! :-) Overall, I have had pleasant experiences at Mi Tierra. They treat their non-Spanish customers nice and do not make me feel out of place.
