I left the Catholic church at a young age because I felt like I wasn't "getting anything out of it." For the next several years, I visited various Christian churches. I was looking for a place where I could receive God's word, relate it to my life, and feel like I belonged. I decided to try St. John after moving to Ellisville about five years ago. I admit that it was a bit more contemporary than I was used to. After all, I grew up in the Catholic church. However, after attending my very first service at St. John, I knew I had found my church - my home. I could go on and on about the many reasons why I love this church, but I'll give you just a few. 1) I felt welcomed. The staff and even the congregation as a whole made me feel welcomed - like I belonged. I didn't feel like I was an outsider coming into a congregation where everyone already knew one another and I was the new person. Instead, I encountered warm smiles, friendly hellos, and a pastor who made me feel like I belonged. His words seem to speak right to me and I felt that no matter where I was on my spiritual journey, that I belonged. 2) I understood that the live streaming, the somewhat contemporary services, and the outreach activities of the church are meant to strengthen our faith and to seek and save the lost - the same mission as Jesus. 3) When the church asks for offerings, they show where our money is going. We see what our contributions are accomplishing and how we are making an impact in others' lives. 4) The children's ministry is amazing! Our children receive lessons in a fun and age-appropriate way so they can experience the love of Jesus in a way they understand. Meanwhile, as a parent, I am able to worship without any distractions. Of course, we can always worship together as a family if we want to. It's our choice. 5) The church offers many opportunities to be involved. Whether it be attending helpful seminars, enjoying Independence Day fun, Bible studies, or serving, there are lots if ways to feel you're a part of this amazing congregation. 6) The message! By far, this is the best part of St. John. Each message speaks to me in a meaningful way. I find myself immediately engrossed in the service and never even find myself looking at my watch. My husband and I struggled to find a church for several years, he grew up in conservative dominations while I grew up Baptist and then switched to nondenominational in my early 20's. Once we were married we couldn't agree on a church and we tried dozens throughout the South and West county regions. Because of our religious backgrounds/differences, we didn't attend church for several years. Thankfully, friends invited us to visit St. John's and from that first service, we knew we'd found our church home. My husband was diagnosed with melanoma the first week that we attended St. John (divine intervention). During the next two and a half years we found comfort and strength on Sunday mornings to be able to get through another week and more importantly, my husband's faith grew deeper than I'd ever seen in our 10+ years of marriage. I began volunteering for the 4th of July and Easter events and eventually at the Sunday school check-in counter. I've been able to meet so many amazing people and have formed priceless friendships with others volunteers. My husband ended up on the weekly prayer list and the staff began to pray for our family on a regular basis. They helped us with travel arrangements when we went to Houston, Texas to get a second opinion at M.D. Anderson and helped us find an attorney to create our trust and wills. They even helped us find a tutor for our elementary aged children and were always checking in to see if there was anything else they could do. They offered meals, leaf removal, grass cutting and help getting the kids to and from Sunday school, you name it...they truly wanted to help in anyway they could. Unfortunately, my husband went home to be with the Lord in October. The church was again amazing, they were so supportive throughout the whole process and let us have the service and the meal following at the church. We even bought cemetery plots to make St. John's our final resting place. The children's ministry is top notch and they are truly focused on the next generation. They host great children events outside of Sunday school throughout the year. They are also focused on missions work in other countries as well as here within the city. Definitely give St. John's a try if you are curious. You'll no doubt find a church that is biblically sound and culturally relevant. You'll also find a group of caring Christians that are willing to reach out and help during your time of need. read more

St. John is a special place. You know it as soon as you get out of your car. There is an understanding that God is so happy that you're here and everyone in the church "gets" that. The idea is that the volunteers, staff and regular church members want to meet you right where you are in life. If you need some help in a particular area they want to see that you have that available to you. Church services themselves are amazing: you aren't expected to dress in a certain way or act in a certain way in order to "fit in" to some stereotypical form. Instead, you are enveloped in top-notch music, lighting, video and phenomenal preaching that changes how you view life by the time you walk out of the building. And the people are ... welcoming. You'll see genuine people who are figuring out life right along side of you. They may not have all of the answers, but they serve a God who has left his guidance and love for you spelled out in the Bible and they believe wholeheartedly in that Word and preach it. Our family was new to the St Louis area more than 10 years ago. We visited a number of churches and felt immediately connected at St John. While it is a large church, it is extremely welcoming and engaging! There are many ways we found to "plug in" from their pre-K-8 grade Blue Ribbon school, outstanding high school with a dedicated youth program, and non-threatening worship (I'm an introvert) we felt at home from the first visit. The staff and teaching Pastors are wonderful, grace filled, and encouraging. The ability to experience worship via YouTube (www.stjstl.net) really helped us get acclimated as well and provided a means to be involved in the church when we can't attend and share with others who are looking to connect to a local spiritual community. read more

We have been attending St. John for almost 7 years now, and it truly is made up of people who care about changing the lives of those in the church, in the community, and around the world. The leaders are genuine, down to earth people who are incredibly engaging and know how to share God's word truthfully while making it relevant and applicable for everyone listening. I have never listened to a message that I couldn't personally apply to my own life. I could go on and on! The music is incredible, the leaders of the children's and student ministry advocate like no one I've ever seen for the children and students they lead, and the services are creatively crafted and powerful. St Johns is an incredible place to learn about God not only for adults both young and old but more importantly children. It is awesome to leave church each week learning something new about God but even more importantly to hear kids talking about what they learned. This congregation is filled with young families and has such youthful orientation which is extremely hard to find. This has to do with our head pastor Dion who is doing incredible things. I've been a member of this church for a number of years. It is focused on reaching and serving the community of Ellisville and beyond. It is a great place to raise your family. They have a wonderful children's ministry, an amazing vacation bible school, and other services for people from all walks of life. St. John is a Church where messages are applicable and relevant; the church staff keeps an open mind to changes in the culture and generally cares about the community. This is true in many churches, but what makes the staff of St. John unique is they do this while staying true to the Bible. Been a part of this church (working for and attending) for about a year and have been blessed by the community here. My wife is a part of the Mothers of Preschoolers group and loves it. The kids' ministry has been wonderful. The men's events are always fun to attend. St. John is a place where all are welcome. St. John has meant so much to my family. The messages apply scripture to everyday life...we always leave with something significant each weekend. The music is like no other...from all ages. My daughter loves the youth program, Core. I don't know what we would do without our St. John community. Our kids are enrolled at St. John's school. I enjoy going to St. John's church because you don't feel like you are wasting your time by just going through the motions like in my previous church experience. I've been going to St.John for several years. When I first started attending we drove 45 min one way because we enjoyed it so much. We have since moved within 5 minutes of the church and being that close was part of the buying decision. We leave here full but yet wanting more as do our kids. read more
