(Reviewing the PHP part) This is definitely not a one-size-fits-all program. Luckily, the type of care they provided fit me pretty well. Very structured routine, 9 to 430 every day. My individual therapist was great. The rest of the program works if you work it. Was not very accessible for physical disabilities or those with an aversion to fluorescent overhead lights and mildly comfortable leather chairs. read more

My teen son (dx: mood disorder/presumed bipolar disorder, ADHD, ASD, etc.) recently did the residential program at Pathlight Seattle for a month. Unfortunately, it was an incredibly disappointing experience. I would not recommend it. The program is in an upper floor commercial space, and they usually only went outside the front entrance twice daily briefly for "fresh air breaks." There were supposed to be weekly outings, but they were revoked. This was very upsetting to most of the youth, who pleaded to go outside more but were dismissed, and who even met with the patient advocate and wrote a letter themselves to management about this. There was no gym or way to get any movement, and they couldn't run around at all when on the short breaks. There were various therapy groups throughout the day, which my son did not find helpful. Some were just listening to music, watching kid movies, or drawing on their own, while watched by regular staff. Likewise, I did not find parent groups at all helpful--extremely basic and general info, and I did not think the staff leading the parent groups were very skilled. The positive part was that their psychiatrist seemed excellent. Unfortunately, though, I believe he is only on staff there part-time. He also was out of the office for a chunk of my son's stay, and the one and only time I was able to speak with him directly was after my son had already been there for ~3 weeks, and only after that did he receive a recommendation for medication. He was reluctant to take it, and this wasn't enough time to persuade him to try it before he left. Note, there was also a physician assistant, but whom I also found disappointing for various reasons. Seemed to me nowhere near the skill level as the psychiatrist (and per their bio graduated just ~2 1/2 yrs ago), and I also did not hear from them after intake day except for when they responded to an email I sent (because I was concerned that a med contraindicated for BD may have been brought up to my son as an option). A patient with complicated, severe mental illness like my son required the knowledge/training of a psychiatrist. I had little communication with anyone from Pathlight after the intake day, when I was able to meet with several staff (but not the psychiatrist). The communication was generally just from my son's therapist, but this was during the weekly family therapy session. In reality, since this was the time to talk about my son and how he was doing, that is what most of the session time went towards. There was also not a way I could call my son or easily reach staff by phone; I had to wait until my son called me during limited call times they had. There is supposed to be a care coordinator, but I only heard from her when he first started there, when she emailed me a quick intro and directed me to complete a survey. Nothing since. We are left particularly soured from his quick exit. He was suddenly kicked out early due to minor misbehaviors, and I needed to get him on very short notice. He told me another teen there was also suddenly kicked out for minor misbehavior on the same day he was (plus I am aware of a third teen discharged early for minor misbehavior from around the same time). He said the other teen found out when staff, while laughing, told them to start packing. That was 1 1/2 weeks ago, and I never heard from anyone at Pathlight since. To my disappointment, I was not able to have a final/second conversation with the psychiatrist first, which I really wanted to ask about recommended medication, etc. When I had let the therapist know that I would have really liked to have been able to have a final conversation with the psychiatrist, he said he would ask him to call me the next day, but that didn't happen. When I arrived to pick him up at the agreed time, he was just brought out by a nurse--no final contact with anyone on the treatment team. He was just dumped out, with no apparent improvement from anything there, then silence. I also think his physical health was worsened from the month indoors without movement, etc. read more

Please do your mental health a favor by not coming here. My mental health was worse from being there. The staff is not trained accurately and there is no consistency in their guidelines and rules. Having OCD, I am an advocate and have a community on Instagram. I came here as their website said they treat OCD but they don't! Nobody even knew what all the subtypes are including scrupulously. I was told I need to adhere to others (patients and staff) values but not mine. This place is like a cult because if I did not answer a question the way they wanted me to, I was mocked, isolated, called names and was told I need to be educated. Patients were treated differently. If you were buddy's with the staff they would let you get away with having snacks and a cell phone in your room. I saw it with my own eyes. Yet that goes against the rules in which I was not allowed to have a snack or have a phone to call my kids. I was told I was not allowed to wear shirts with anything on them and even had my clothes searched, yet other patients had decals that were inappropriate on their clothing. This place is not about treating mental health it's only about catering to one specific identity. They are not about diversity and they are not all inclusive. Unless you want to feel isolated and treated poorly by being forced to eat in a closet size room by yourself, then I highly advise you don't have yourself or a loved one admitted here. This place really is dangerous and harmful and should be shut down! Photos are showing how inconsistent this facility is. They cut the drawstrings off all my new comfy pants that I can't wear anymore when I don't even struggle with Suicide. Yet they have these photo boards with ribbons in each room. They also wouldn't let me lay a towel down on a shelf to put my clean clothes on because they said a towel can be harmful yet what about the pillows and sheets and blankets. This place makes no sense. All I wanted was to lay my clean clothes on a clean towel in the midst of COVID! read more

I would recommend their PHP or IOP program for anyone wanting to take their first steps in recovery from trauma/mental health treatment. However my personal experience from someone who has been in and out of treatment centers most of my life was yet another let down. First my admissions was greeted by the receptionist Gery, who was warm and friendly but did not seem to have a strong system for the admission process. My therapist and psychiatrist didn't meet me for several days by that time I met and gotten used to the environment and rules, they kicked me out . I got triggered and felt afraid after a weird patient interaction one night and needed help but instead I was greeted by rude and incompetent staff. I was having multiple panic attacks while sobbing. They were apathetic and gossiping to each other in the corner. And argued about getting me support for most of my evening. My condition worsened and things escalated. I was finally able to calm down with the help of a different nurse (not ours cuz she ignored me). I was then in the morning greeted by 3 policemen to shipped me down to the hospital inpatient in lockdown for 48 hours and then told me I would have to go through the admissions process again in order to re-enter. SAD I didn't get to say goodbye to my friends or have any therapy sessions before I was kicked out. Bummed I have to keep going on my search for some decent help that actually helps. Not these scammer money centers who claim evidence-based practice and don't have the staff or training to support the intense needs of the patients :/ read more

I am starting week 5. I came for family therapy, art therapy, music therapy, and aftercare placement in the community. I pretty much got none of that. Music therapy is watching disney movies 5 weeks running. "Art" therapy is crayons, bad felt markers bad paper and no prompt. Psychodrauma i thought i saw there is non existent. The outside time usually goes to "the benches" which is a triangle of concrete that i would not let my dog sit on and benches - and it is too close for me to be stuck next to the people that vape. To top it off they are forcing me to do PHP, not the IOP I requested. PHP would require me to spend 1.5 hours getting there 8.5 hours stuck there taking programming without the above mentioned modalities that i came there for and another 1.5-2 hours because of traffic back home - rinse and repeat 7 days per week - so i will likely go AMA on the day they said would be my step down. Any question i ask is delayed by some higher authority never present and everything is denied. They drag us through monatony that we have to have a doctor or nurse note to get out off or a committee if it a doctors appointment. I was denied pain managment appointments and PT appointments and that was after spintal fusion of 3 vertibrae and twice cancelled PT appointments. It took weeks and presenting the above mentioned evidence to get what was supposed to be a 6 week post appt to verify and lift restrictions. I got that appointment at 3 months. My favorite part of Pathlight was the BHTs that genuinely cared. Whomever it is that everything is referred out to without a name that passes the judgment down from above is illogical - I present logical pros and cons and they say the powers that be say no and no and no - no extra time for me to be able to make it on a walk that does not literally disgust me. I have finished precisely 2 meals before being ushered out and when a new person comes they say oh take your time - that is also illogical i have NEVER been allowed to take my time with anything. I was rushed at meal times so much that i was literally nauseaus and dizzy. I have gotten some things while here. I did need a place to be safe i am grateful for that but i kick myself that i did not go AMA o day 3 when i got the acceptance from Sierra Tucson - who is an actual first rate institution with all the things above i just mentioned. AND I had an actual case manager or care manager that did actual care rather than send me a list of phone numbers to call with only giving me one hour thata i had to beg my therapist to approve to do it. This program increased my anxiety, frustration, and worry. I had to self advocate a ton to find another program and transfer out after the first 2 weeks because I could tell the Virtual IOP program would not become worth it. What a crooked farce. I wouldn't even do this virtual IOP, if it were free. I was misled. I had so much hope for this program, thinking it was a real option to help me. Turns out it's a cash cow to charge patients and insurance and provide the bare minimum, which wastes time and money. Find another Virtual IOP anxiety program. At least 45 minutes per day are spent on breaks. 20 minutes on a youtube video meditation you could find for yourself and do by yourself for free. 15-20 minutes on free Ted talks. That leaves like 45 minutes for group and a bit for check in. It's a waste. You could do better with a free therapy workbook rented from a library and your own googling of meditation and Ted talks. You may have to rewatch the talks or go over the same material several times if they add someone to your group later, so you are paying and wasting your time to repeat things. No actual strategies taught. One lesson belabored for 45 minutes the idea that your thoughts influence your emotions and your behaviors. Well of course they do. That can be summarized in that sentence. Move on. Disorganized curriculum, incompetent "program therapist" who is actually not a therapist or a good teacher/facillitator at all, overpriced. I spent two weeks in the program and they bill $375 to $550 a day. Did not really get a team approach to my care. I had one therapy session a week. The group members were nice and helped each other, but groups alone aren't worth that money. read more

I should have read the Yelp reviews first. I sent my daughter with extreme anxiety here and they were completely unequipped to handle her. Their solution was to let her "cry it out" alone. I tried telling them on admittance the strategies that work and also what triggers her and they didn't seem to listen to me. Turns out they were not listening. One of the forms specifically asked "if I'm struggling, what should be done" (not exact wording). I answered "make sure I ate." The number one reason she has meltdowns is because she's too anxious to remember to eat. My husband had to drive all the way down (1.5 hours) the next day to try to help her and it turns out they didn't feed her all day. Let me remind you, they are also an eating disorder center. The final straw was our zoom meeting with her assigned and dedicated psychiatrist. He was surprised at the level of her anxiety. We explained everything again. He finally said (with a straight face), "well, maybe we should consider medication." - he was her dedicated psychiatrist for days now and he somehow failed to notice she was on a pretty high dose of several medications already. It was .... Staggering .... This place is an epic fail. read more

i am encouraged reading some of the reviews and knowing i am not alone in my experience. i left pathlight with more trauma and significantly less hope than i showed up with. the patient to provider ratio is screwed, they over-admit and overflow case loads and everyone ends up under served. i saw so many patients affected by this, and my own treatment was impacted as well; some serious risks related to new medication prescribed to me by one of the psychiatrists went overlooked and could have resulted in damage to my vital organs. the providers are incompetent at best, vindictive and harmful at worst. the bar for "program therapists" is on the ground. i heard about a program therapist casually bringing up and discussing substance use with patients and i witnessed a program therapist making a suicide joke during group. there are weekly blocks of time for art and music therapy but for the 7 weeks I was in residential they had neither an art therapist nor a music therapist and the group leader that day was meant to just improvise. not at all the quality of care deserved or advertised. DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) as a program is problematic at the best of times, but these practitioners utilized it as a tool to continually invalidate and gaslight patients. whenever myself or other patients raised concerns, through appropriate channels or otherwise, staff responded with dismissal, often followed by a twisting of the truth that painted the patient as the responsible party, no matter the concern. it was vile and unacceptable in so many ways. when i think of the staff at pathlight i think about the refusal to take due responsibility and the automatic response of pushing blame around. many many promises made by staff fell through, to the detriment of the quality of treatment. for some people it was nearly impossible to be seen by their psychiatrist or individual therapist despite these meetings being, supposedly, a central and crucial part of the individual's treatment plan. there's a nutritionist/dietician on staff but when i asked to speak with them about my nutrition plan, something i was assured i was allowed to do at any time, i was told to wait again and again and when my concern was finally "addressed", it was a 45 second conversation in front of other patients. the food isn't too bad but if you have dietary restrictions or sensory needs they will not be accommodated even close to adequately. it's extremely embarrassing for an institution to run this way. (the occasional, OCCASIONAL, member of staff is a real gem and i am very thankful to the people i crossed paths with who saw me and cared for me in my time there.) all in all i cannot tear pathlight down enough. negative 10 stars. i pray to god everyday that they get sued or shut down or both, and i hope that 99% of everyone affiliated with this godforsaken place (including pathlight corporate) experiences significant personal hardship. may all of you, one day, in your own times of great despair and need, be met with the same lack of compassion you have offered to the vulnerable people in your care. maybe then you can begin to atone for the harm you have caused. read more

Their "quite room" turns into solitary confinement real fast when they turn the lights out, turn the heat off and close the door because you begging for help to loudly, forgetting you in there. My girlfriend went to Pathlight because they were struggling with managing their depression and wanted some help with coping skills. They have left with more trauma than they went in with. The therapists are unprofessional, poorly trained, and spend more time policing their patients than practicing actual therapy. If you are looking for help, do NOT choose Pathlight. read more

Do not go here if you're disabled. They're great for non disabled people without extensively unusual issues, but if you have extensive issues, an overly busy schedule that can't be avoided, or a disability, they WILL NOT work with you. They'll say that they'll work with you and then they'll string you along until you've paid them everything you have. They kept saying they'd get the accessible technology I needed "really soon, like maybe this week" for THREE MONTHS. They outright lied to me multiple times. Matt, the guy in charge of the Seattle location, tried to gaslight me and say that "that's not actually what the law says" about disability and ADA laws until I pulled out a physical copy of the law and then he suddenly ended the conversation and left. At the end of my time there I told anyone who would listen that this was happening and no one did anything. On my last day, no one would even acknowledge what was happening (even as other patients were saying "hey this is messed up"). No accountability, and no integrity. Seriously messed up stuff. Don't come here if you're disabled. ESPECIALLY not if you're Deaf or Hard of Hearing. (P.S, Pathlight, if y'all see this, you know who I am and you still have my email. Attending pathlight was disappointing and disheartening. There are structural and staff issues. Staff pretend to value patient needs but do not follow through. There are no straight answers at this place, staff will throw you for a loop. There was a waitlist for my transfer to IOP, care was not continuous as recommended. I give two stars because some curriculum was helpful to me. read more

They refused to provide any therapy services unless I visited in person during a deadly pandemic. They also encourage their PHP patients to eat together despite the obvious danger. I asked for therapy over Zoom over and over and they sounded like a broken record: we don't do PHP over Zoom. Very dangerous! read more

i wish I could give this place zero stars. my 15 year old daughter suffers from ADHD and impulsive behavior. Back in late May 2022 she was admitted to the PBMU at Children's hospital. During her stay in 2 separate incidents, she punch a wall in frustration and threw an ice cube at a staff member. There were no other violent events after that and she has never attacked or hurt anyone ever. in July my daughter started residential treatment which ended this last weekend. During the past 2 months I had been corresponding with Shannon Pathlight about having my daughter follow up her residential treatment with PHP. i did an assessment with Shannon. A referral from the residential treatment facility was also faxed to Pathlight. Shannon told me that the only thing left to do was for my daughter to have a very brief phone call with the admission staff and then it would take just a few days to process her admission. my daughter had a phone call with Kelly from Pathlight because Shannon was not in the day of the phone call. This phone call was not brief as Shannon had mentioned. Shortly after the phone call started Kelly informed my daughter that the phone call will take 1 hour! Kelly proceeded to ask the same questions Shannon had asked me during our phone call assessment and then some. Among the new questions, my daughter was asked whwth she had ever raped someone, whether she ever poop and pee her pants and whether she was violent. My daughter answer no to all these questions and told Kelly about the 2 PBMU incidents I mentioned at the beginning. After the phone call with my daughter, Kelly explained to me that she had to have Luna's admission reviewed by the psychiatric team because of her violent incidents (the ones mentioned año or that took place back I early June). Kelly told that she had read the referral from the residential treatment my daug had just discharged from and acknowledged that my daughter had made progress and there had been no other "violent" incidents since early June at the PBMU at Children's Hospital. However, she had to report my daughter's violent incidents prior to considering admission. Pathlight denied my daughter's admission. I have no other PHP programs lines up for my daughter although the residential treatment providers recomm that she enrolled in one immediately after discharge. Because whatever this woman Kelly told Pathlight that my daughter was violent (although none of this is written in any referral from the PBMU or from her residential treatment facility) my daughter now has no treatment available. I have looked into multiple facilities since early June. Some have no availabilit. others are not covered by my insurance. I don't know what am I going to do now. I had also found a new school for her that specializes in children with ADHD as well but who made her admission conditional on my daughter attending a PHP program right after discharge from residential. that is ruined now thanks to this woman Kelly as well. I am so worried and desperate looking for an alternative but having no luck at all. read more

I can't imagine what these low star ratings are about. my son went to Pathlight for anxiety and with his social anxiety, he felt safe here for the first time to confide in Alex and the group. He returned to looking forward to seeing the friends in group, dressing and cleaning up before going and eating properly. may I say he raved about food each day. the only drawback was during Covid there was no in-person step down therapy and he doesn't do well with zoom therapy. read more

This place was hell for my girlfriend. She went for recovery from trauma and instead found a locked up facility where patients don't get care on time, meals are unhealthy, talking about trauma even makes them treat you like someone mean trying to unload their problems on other patients. which is NOT true. They did not respect her requests for meds on time and instead got it in the afternoon when the effect caused more issues from being late and even ignored some days. Some staff are ok and had training, most clearly had little to no training. Staff and other patients will team up and tske sides against you Just because you might be real and less of a snowflake who doesn't put up with BS. with this claim theyre trying to make, helping people with such serious stuff you would think they would try at least but you wont get help just HELD because of your insurance. When you think back to this review and you regret going there, just hang on a few more days since that's how long it will take for the process for you to get out. The treatment proframs are uninteresting enough to make somebody go crazy. a lot of free time where you can't go out or do anything in, the programs do not seem to be affective at all. stay away from this part of swedish if you can. read more

. I went to this program for PTSD. This place is "trauma informed" which means you cannot talk about anything ever. I was not allowed to say any sort of triggering words. Example: instead of using terms such as death or passing, we were to say "expired". It was offensive talked about my deceased relatives as if they were a jug of spoiled milk. I was also not allowed to speak with other patients or around other patients about specific issues relating to self harm, trauma, and drugs and alcohol. Instead these things are called "target behaviors". It was extremely difficult censoring myself. I had kept all my trauma and issues to myself for the past 7 years and was finally able to work through it, which could not happen due to the strict language I must use. Dancing around the trigger words was harmful to my mental health, it was invalidating. The other patients (mostly young adults ranging from 18-28) would bully me and exclude me for talking about how the strict language rules was harming to me. I have been in recovery from drugs and alcohol for some time and was told I can't even use the term substance abuse. I voiced my concerns to staff several times and no changes were made even though I was triggered by not being able to talk about ANYTHING and instead I internalized all the issues I had came to treatment to work through. I was told by staff that I would be able to talk to my individual therapist about my trauma. However, in the week and a half I stayed I saw my therapist twice for about 15 minutes each time. I voiced my concerns about the rules and the bullying and exclusion by patients. It was like being in high school again. None of my needs were being met after the third time I voiced my concerns. I decided to leave because this program was doing more harm than good. They have a policy that if you decide to leave you must put in a 72 hour notice so they can arrange after care for when you get out. Each day of the 72 hours I told staff twice a day I needed help finding an IOP in my area. I was told "we are working on it". After the second day I started doing the work to set up my aftercare myself. While trying to do that I was repeatedly badgered by staff telling me I needed to go to group to which I responded I am trying to make arrangements for myself for after treatment since I was not getting any help from staff. They asked me three times and I politely said no the first 2 times. On the third time they asked me I had to use colorful language to get them to leave me alone. I finally met with a care coordinator the day before my departure. He said he would look into IOP in my hometown or online. I told him the exact time I was leaving the next day and surprise surprise, he never came through with the information I had asked for over 6 times. Luckily I was able to figure everything out on my own after I left. This place is a corporate hell hole. They wasted no time filling any beds of those leaving early with reasons similar to mine. And offered 0 help creating a safety plan or aftercare arrangements. The only thing good I have to say about this place is the food was good for a mental health facility and the psychiatrist made some changes to my medication that worked. Remember folks, corporations ALWAYS put profit before people. I am going to need to do trauma work specifically from this place. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

These people are crooks who are looking for no more than the most money they can get out of you. They tried to force my disabled wife to complete in-patient therapy when they have the option of doing out-patient, but dont make enough off of it. They make $1500 per day with a 90 day minimum requirement for in-patient therapy. They don't care about helping people, just swindling them. read more
