I "shop" at antique shops as a hobby. So I love this place based on my ability to peruse at a leisurely rate and have the store laid out in a fun manner! I thought the staff was kind and helpful, although I'll admit I prefer to be left to my own devices in stores like this. Overall It was clean and full of a wide range of pieces. If you like larger, actual antique pieces -they have those. And if you prefer booths that are stuffed full to the brim of little trinkets and bobbles they have that too! read more

Recently while shopping in Patina Market, I noticed beautiful original coastal art that was behind the checkout desk and loved the oyster art that I purchased! I was pleased to meet the artist and knew that she was the "real deal".. She grew up around this Folly Beach area and her roots come from local restauranter's .. I personally appreciate professional local talent! Her work of Lowcountry scenes and oceanic type art make a wonderful souvenir of this beautiful Folly Beach! This is a fantastic antique shop - I see a lot of the reviews throwing rocks at the staff for being non attentive and lacking customer service skills. As much as I value and appreciate those opinions they are just opinions as are mine and doesn't mean the inventory sucks and that's why I come here. We all have different agendas or different needs when it comes to looking through aisles of junk and treasures, I for one prefers to be left alone, I can do my own research using my phone of iPad and really don't need a sales pitch or an opinion from someone who may or may not know anything more than I do about a particular piece. I found this shop to be a treasure trove of oddities and collectibles and most importantly I rarely got a glimpse of any of the staff. 2 stars may be too much. This is the largest place for antiques around. You would think that their customer service would be second to none. It seem that the people who work there would rather be somewhere else. They don't smile, don't greet you like a paying customer and seem to just want your money and rush you out. They don't work with you when you have questions, and don't want to call the vendors, especially if you want a discount. It's too bad because they do have a fine selection of items in all price ranges. We still go there often but only for the merchandise, not for the mgt. Frank G read more

I stopped in the store while in Mt Pleasant on a whim and was pleasantly surprised! There are numerous vendors and lots of items to look at. Prices are quite reasonable. The staff was helpful with selection, questions, purchase and loading the (heavy) dresser I purchased into my car. I even went back the next day to get two more furniture pieces! They remembered me from the day before and again they performed to my expectations. Unlike the other reviews, I found the customer service to be perfect. They were there to answer questions and even called the vendor to ask questions that we couldn't get from examining the piece. She handled the sale professionally and loaded the items in my car. I had a wonderful experience. And I will come back to the store whenever I am in town. read more

I loved this store. They have a wide variety of beautiful things and decently priced. Many vendor booths, quite a variety. That being said, their customer service is terrible. The owner seems to find customers annoying and not worth her time. I had wanted to purchase a belt there last month but because there was no price, so they told me I could leave my phone number and as soon as they got in touch with the vendor they would call me. They called me yesterday an hour before they closed and said they could only hold it until close that evening, as they did not do overnight holds. Don't worry, I was told, the belt would probably still be there the next day when I could come, at about 1 pm. I came back today, and could not find the belt in the vendor's booth. Gosh, it was probably sold they said. Sorry. When I told them of my frustration and that I would not be a returning customer because of how horribly they treated their paying customers, they laughed at me. Appalled. read more

Until today, one of my favorite shopping stops on my frequent trips to Charleston. As an Antique Mall owner myself, I understand the need for a no return policy, but this mall does not stand behind their merchandise as represented. We made a purchase marked "works" on the tag which did not work. While a small item, the unwillingness of this mall to put integrity and customer service first has ended a 10 year buying relationship with purchases of thousands over the years. A shame ... poor management negates the dealers efforts to provide a quality shopping opportunity. read more

At first glance, this place looked interesting; lots of goodies. However, count your change and check the quality of your items before you buy. I will never order or purchase from this place again. Vendors do not stand behind their items. One in particular sold us a painted plastic dollhouse "antique" clock (which looked like brass but we weren't allowed to touch), packed it up for mailing, charged us $45 (ooo, less a 10% discount). Then when I received it, I called to inquire about why we got this piece and not the brass clock, possibly there was a wrong identification tag on it or if not, what was the story on a plastic toy that expensive. Reply was very defensive (as if I was accusing them of a bait and switch) "we never have wrong tags, no returns, no refunds, our vendors can ask for whatever price they want, not our problem..." We visited this antique outlet this morning and left very disappointing with the service from the staff. Upon entering we were told that purchases over $20 qualified for a 10% discount, and purchases over $100 could result in further discounts if they called the consignor. After choosing 50 - 60 Golden Books totaling about $500 I asked the lady who told us about the discounts to call the consignor to see if we could get 10% off our large purchase from the same consignor. She said that she could only call for individual items over $100, not total items from the same consignor over $100. We put about half of the books back while I asked her to reconsider calling the consignor. After picking up about $400 from other booths, we brought our purchases to the counter and asked her again if she would call the consignor for the Golden Books. Three of the sales staff, who were doing nothing else but sitting around anyway, all said that they were not allowed to call the consignor as per the manager's rules. When we asked her to call the manager, they refused. When we asked them for the manager's name, they reluctantly said Jan after we asked repeatedly. As she was ringing up our items she refused to give us 10% on items over $20, now saying that she said $25, even though we heard her say $20 at least 3 times. Finally as she was ringing up our $600 purchase she told us to stop bickering about the 10% since she was getting confused. As two retired business managers, we found this comment completely out of line since we had not raised our voices or said anything inappropriate, but had simply been persistent in asking her to call the consignor or the manager. This was the final straw, and we decided to let her keep all of the items, walking out of the store. As a seasoned seller of antiques myself, I was very disappointed with the attitude of the staff. We would have spent about $1200 at this outlet if she had simply taken a moment to call the consignor of the Golden Books. We reduced our purchases to about $600 simply because she wouldn't call this consignor. When she was rude at the counter and refused to call the manager or the consignor as well as make nasty comments, we chose to leave all of our purchases. It is as shame that the consignor of the Golden Books lost a substantial amount of money because we would have purchased 50 to 60 of his or her Golden Books if the staff had not been rude. The other consignors lost a substantial amount of money because we would have purchased many other items if the staff had simply taken a moment to make a phone call. Note that if the consignor chose not to reduce the items, we still would have bought them. It was just the staff''s refusal to make any effort whatsoever, along with the rudeness of the one lady, that made us choose to leave all of the purchases behind. Unfortunately for the vendors, the service here is terrible at best. I really like the items I find here (although pricey) but the customer service here nearly ruins the experience. More than a year ago, I was looking for a specific type of jewelry and they also told me over the phone they have too many items to know what they have in stock (the jewelry case I was asking about surrounds them at their counter, lazy!!)}. I came in two times ago and stared for minutes at the estate jewelry case while the 2 ladies behind the counter (and behind the case) never acknowledged me or asked if I needed anything. I came back last week to find an item I previously saw and was told the vendor just took everything out 5 minutes before. I asked if they could find out when she'd be back, and then I got the "deer in the headlights" look mentioned before. I then asked if they could call her and they looked confused, after talking between themselves, the lady who remained seated the whole time called her begrudgingly. Still haven't heard back....If I was a vendor here, I'd take your stuff somewhere else because these people are not interested in sales. read more

I have bought far more than $1000.00 worth of furniture and accessories over the years at the Antiques Market and have brought family and friends to shop there....but I will not buy there again. We bought an iron bed there and we did not notice that the headboard had a cracked side rail bracket at the time we purchased it (and there was no mention of an "as is" condition on the bed.) As there are absolutely no returns, we bit the bullet and had the crack welded for $75.00 plus another $40.00 for someone to pick it up and take it to the welder in North Charleston and then bring it back. When we began to put the bed together, we saw clearly what had made the bracket crack...the side rail pins were too big for the bracket slots and someone had evidently tried to force the tapered side rail pin into the bracket and cracked it. The only bracket that would accept the side rail was the one that we had welded..because we sent the side rail with the headboard...but the other three would not fit all the way down and so the bed wobbles badly and is unstable. We contacted the seller through the manager of the Antiques Market and were told that the seller had used that bed for her daughter for years and it was very stable and that the side rails fit. We then contacted the manager again and asked her very nicely if we could meet with the seller (at the seller's convenience) and bring the bed frame to the store and have her show us how she did it... (we own 5 other antique iron beds and they have all fit perfectly but perhaps the seller had a technique of which we were not aware.) The manager has just called back and rudely said that the seller has absolutely no interest in meeting with us (remember, we are not asking for a refund....just instruction on how to make use of this bed that she warranted worked perfectly) and it was our tough luck and the seller no longer had a booth there. When my husband asked for direct contact information (since the seller was no longer a vendor) the manager continued to be rude and confrontational and refused to help in any way. I'm sorry that I will not see many of the salespeople that I have grown to know, especially Bill. But as long as the Antiques Market is under the present management, I will take my business elsewhere. read more
