Hard to give a review, went here and the prices seemed quite high, but they also were advertising a sale off of "everything" that day, so not sure if it is one of those places that has high prices but what you ultimately pay is considerably less? Store is pretty big though, so a fair amount to wander around. Will look for other options. read more

Ok Yelp, really, 3 stars? This is by the far the best furniture place we have ever been to across various states. The service is exceptional, the selection outstanding and while it is very very very pricey you can find some good values in the discounted and sales sections. We came today to purchase our 6th piece of furniture during their holiday event, free booze, food and Santa for the kids! Found exactly what we wanted for the house and left very happy. My absolute favorite part about shopping here is there are no pushy, aggressive salespeople. I usually walk the store three times before deciding what I want because there is so much to choose from and the staff always lets me know they are there to help if needed but if not to walk around as long as I like. I love that about this place and never feel pressured to buy or told about sales that I can clearly read on their signs. Thanks for not making your staff drive your customers crazy. I bought 2 cream colored sofas and was told they had "performance" fabric on them. I wanted performance fabric for we have pets and children. I have 2 chairs with this type of fabric and any spot can EASILY be removed by a little soap and water. The sofas get a spot on them and DO NOT come off at all!!! Don't buy their so called sofas with "performance" fabric on them unless they can guarantee it!!!! Very disappointed and feel mislead!! read more

We just bought something else we weren't really looking for--a really beautiful coffee table--while browsing. They delivered it quickly and the guys were really nice and personable. I have only had good experiences at this store. We bought dining chairs that are beautiful and reasonably priced. They have some really unique, beautiful furniture. Some things are a little expensive and there are some items that they don't have the option to order more of, which can be a bummer. Is the service as good as places like Ethan Allen? Maybe not but the prices reflect that. I'd definitely recommend Steven Shell when furniture shopping. Also, they do have sales so keep an eye out for that. read more

So I thought I had a great experience at this store. I am never greeted when I come in unless I start looking at expensive stuff. I also wanted to buy something from the store and was told by the owner they will get them for me. After a year they finally told me that they can get anymore made. I wasn't sure what to expect from the name of the shop when we pulled in but I was very pleasantly surprised. There is a ton of wood furniture available for custom finishing in every color under the rainbow, although I love the true wood look myself. If you need side tables or dressers, you'll be in heaven. I did see some sideboards and a couple filing cabinets as well. There might have been a desk or two but they were pretty basic. If you need a workhorse of a desk (like I do), this isn't the place to come. Overall, I thought some things were better priced than others. But everything seemed to be well-made, unlike the shop with painted furniture next door where painting was sloppy and drawers didn't fit right. Update--After looking around some more, I ended up coming back here to get a nightstand made of beautiful driftwood that could easily pass as a side table in another room. I love it! read more

RUDE and unfriendly staff. This establishment breaks the golden rule of retail...friendly customer service. I am not sure if they size up the customer and write off anyone who doesn't measure up to their standards. The place has great merchandise but it is grossly overpriced. I do not mind paying for something if I really love it but I cannot bring myself to hand over money to a store employee who looks right through me. My husband and I were looking for art for 2 guestrooms. We walked over to Southern Accents right next door and found what we were looking for. The store does not epitomize "Southern Hospitality" in a location that sees hundreds of tourists. I think Steven Shell needs to stick to online sales. Their staff does not know how to treat customers. read more

We have love most of the furnishings in Steven Shell but the sales associates could do more to be responsive to customers to make a sale. We found a bed we really liked on sale on MLK day but could not wait for someone to help us because we had to head back to our elderly mother and the place was quite busy. We returned this past weekend to ask if they would honor the sale price especially as we found the bed cheaper at a place in Myrtle Beach and online. We'd like to buy local but the front desk person didn't seem interested in even asking the owner about the sale price or which bed we wanted. The Myrtle Beach store was glad to provide it on sale, so it looks like we will be heading up there. read more

Terrible customer service today ... the staff was in a hurry to leave but 4 ladies had nothing to do. I have Shopped here since the day they opened & have reccommended to many. I was allowed to take a coffee table on consignment for review at home. I've done this many times in this store. Today there was a different policy ... the one I wanted to take was too expensive, ( same price as the first one that was approved). Then the story changed to no it's too heavy & could break ( isn't that why they take my credit card?). Finally I realized the girl was just making it up as she went along ... So I left with NO coffee table & a bad taste in my mouth. Have to think this is NOT how Steven Shell wants customers treated. I understand how busy retail is right now , most businesses have too few employees so service is limited . This was the flip side of that ... I was the only customer in the store & the staff was chilling behind the register and I STILL RECEIVED TERRIBLE SERVICE. I have to laugh . As they say " they're making those things everyday," So I'll stick with Celadon and GDC ... good local companies..plus they have 14 day return policy. read more

Every time I go to this store I want to make a purchase and every time I cannot allow myself to spend money there because the staff is so unfriendly and rude. I do not want to give business to someone who is annoyed by giving minimal help to a customer. They are shockingly unaccommodating and are visibly irritated when you ask for help. Just purchased an awesome dining room table, 6 chairs and side board from Steven Shell Living. Everyone there was so helpful in making my decision! They went out of their way....moved chairs from all over the store to put by the table so that I could see which I liked the best. They also let me take the items home (with a copy of my credit card of course) to see how it looked in my house. Everything worked out perfect and we absolutely LOVE IT ALL!! They are top notch in customer service, the quality is amazing and the prices cannot be beat! I have sent friends over and they have had great experiences as well! If you want to see how something looks in your home, make sure to buy "on approval." They'll give you 24 hours to check it out and bring it back if needed, but you have to ask for this ahead of time.
