This past Friday I had an entirely different type of experience that will cost his practice a patient. I had an appointment scheduled months in advance for Friday 10/18 at 10:30 am. I STILL HAVE THE CARD. I had received text message reminders and a phone call reminder all leading up to this appointment. I scheduled myself to work from home that day so that I could go to this appointment for what I assumed was a cleaning. Due to road construction on my way there I would say that I arrived roughly 8 or 9 minutes late. I'm going to say that this amount of time late should NOT have been a problem because when I go there I literally NEVER walk straight into the appointment. I always have to wait!! Your time is no more valuable than mine is. Also, most PROFESSIONAL businesses give a courtesy amount of time too allow people to get to the appointment. Some of us actually work for a living. But I digress... Anyway, I walk up to the desk, give the receptionist my name and she says I don't have you on my schedule for today. I said well I certainly have an appointment. She keeps looking at the screen and asking me if I'm sure and to give her my name again. She still couldn't find me. Then I showed her my text message reminder. She then gets up and walks toward the back into the office and starts engaging in conversation with other women (one was definitely a hygienist whom she asked to do a cleaning for me) because she (the hygienist) said well she's not on the schedule and she's 15 minutes late even if she was so NO I cannot see her. This was said in a nasty tone while looking in my direction. I HEARD her say this as she was standing in a doorway, casually chatting up other women. She was clearly NOT busy. I said no, "She" (meaning myself) was not 15 minutes late and if it weren't such a Scooby Doo mystery of why I'm here I could have been getting seen by now. They very nastily told me I couldn't be seen that day and that I had been removed or crossed off the schedule because I was late. You have got to be joking. I'm sure you clowns have cameras. Check them and see how late I was and don't use that as an excuse for your ineptitude and unprofessionalism. I was told I could reschedule. I said I would do no such thing since you all wasted my valuable time. Dr. Fabey, your practice is only as good as your staff.

I looked on the internet and found Washington family dentist. Even though it was an hour before they closed, after explaining my situation Dr. Riesenberg felt it was serious enough to see me. I had never met him before . I was not a patient of the practice. Dr Riesenberg and his staff were very accommodating. They put me at ease. So it turns out I had a infection which is a serious issue an needed to be dealt with today not Monday . Dr Riesenberg also did some tricks to ease my pain quickly. I broke a tooth and knew I had no choice but to bite the bullet and get it fixed! I asked a friend where I should go and this is where she led me. I had a panic attack before going and did not sleep the night before. Let me tell you that from the moment I opened the door and stepped inside I saw welcoming staff that immediately assured me that I was in good hands. The front desk staff was actually treating me like a person and not just a name on a chart! I was surprised...still terrified but comforted. I met Dr. Parsons and was immediately struck by his relaxed and friendly manner. He immediately put me at ease and was very reassuring and supportive. Nothing like I had ever experienced before! He fixed the broken tooth before I realized it was finished! It was the BEST experience I have ever had! Pain?? What pain?? There was none! I was shocked! Went back in today and the same result! I finally feel like I can handle getting my dental health back on track! I recommend them to a friend, Michelle, who broke her front tooth and is more afraid then I was. Unfortunately, my own experience didn't live up to that reputation. As a transplant recipient, I called to schedule an appointment and was prepared to pay entirely out of pocket. I was upfront about my health history immediately and shared that I did not believe I would need surgery or drastic intervention but wanted to take preventive steps to take care of some issues that had come up. Then, after giving the office access to my records I was told my case wouldn't be taken on specifically because of my complex medical history. I understand every provider has the right to decide which cases fall within their comfort zone, but it was disheartening to be turned away specifically because of health circumstances that led to needing periodontal care in the first place? I'd have appreciated more transparency about what specifically made my case a concern, being told upfront when I disclosed my health history that Dr. Astolfi does not work with patients who have complex medical conditions, or even a referral to someone equipped to treat patients like myself. Patients navigating complex medical situations are often the ones who most need to find a provider willing to work with them, not around them. I hope this feedback is useful for the practice going forward.
