We tried the heuriger wine for that year which was great as well as a 2nd type of resiling the waiter recommended which was my favorite. We also ordered the fried chicken to share which was so yummy - crispy and juicy. We selected a few snacks from the counter deli section as well like some cheese and veggie dishes. This was a great meal. We struck up a conversation with a local who spoke English, and he was surprised we had found the place since it's not a known touristy one. Side note - we had attempted to go to schubel auer which is next door. The staff member told us they were closed for a private party and offered to walk us out and point the way to kerlinger. Would be nice except for he walked us up the path to one side of shubel and pointed us down the hill to kerlinger was on the complete opposite side. Luckily we have gps and found the place after wandering a bit. It was literally next door to the schubel path if we had went the other way. We didn't appreciate being misled by shubel so please go to kerlinger instead.

English is spotty for some of the staff so if not comfortable with that then you won't like this place. You can order food from menu ( they do have one with English translation and photos) or go up to display case and point to what you think you want. And here is where you need translation help. We ordered a variety of dishes.

Schübel-Auer is a "Heuriger", which in German means "Winery"... or in this sense "Wine Garden"…read more There are dozens of these wine gardens in the outer areas of Vienna...I highly recommend visiting at least one! Schübel-Auer is easy to get to: take Tram D heading north all the way to the end will drop you in front at the Nußdorf Beethovengang stop. This will also get you an interesting look at the less glamorous side of Vienna for the everyday locals. (Next door is another Heuriger called Kierlinger, but I didn't a chance to visit this one) Mostly locals, with a just a few business tourists. All the staff did speak pretty good English. Rick Steve's guidebooks recommend this Heuriger, so they're probably prepared for tourists. First, find the food counter, you'll find items labeled in German and English. We got there later, after 8pm, so the selection wasn't as good, but still good enough. Figure about €10-15 per person, depending if your appetite. I learned the hard way that the pastrami was served cold, but it was till pretty good. Nothing fancy, but everything we picked was good. Second, grab a table, any free table. A waiter will come up for drink orders, aka wine order. Typically there's only 2-4 choices. But the best part is, its cheap! A half liter is only €6-7, or a glass for €1.70. Try doing a 50/50 mix with white wine and mineral water: "Gespritzer", which is popular among the locals. Third, eat, drink, and relax...

We got on the D tram and rode to the end of the line. From the tram stop you can see the Schübel-Auer sign. It was very busy and there wasn't anyone to seat people so we just grabbed an empty table. Inside they have a food case with a variety of meats, side dishes, and desserts. We grabbed a tray and cutlery and napkins then stood near the food. The women behind the counter dish up the food for you then weigh it to determine the price. You pay them, then take the food to your table. All of the food we ordered was tasty and seemed homemade. It also was a good value. The liter of house wine was very nice. The wine is ordered from the waiter who you also pay. A very special time on a nice evening. And a must do when in Vienna.

But what I do know is that Pfarrwirt is a really great place to eat. It hasn't changed much since I ate here as a kid. Of course their specialty is superbly prepared Austrian cuisine and fine Austrian wines. I began a meal here with a totally awesome appetizer of Butter Schnitzerl accompanying a potato & vogerl salad adorned with glazed veggies. Totally tasty! The main course was a Spanferkelstelze served with potato laibchen and pumpkin slaw. The pumpkin slaw I can especially tell you is amazing! I had no room for desert. Service was fine....the place was filled....and everyone seemed happy. If Pfarrwirt was good enough for Beethoven, it is good enough for me! Pfarrwirt is one of the best restaurants in Vienna.

All schnitzels (Wiener, Natur, etc.) are made to perfection and fork tender. I would recommend trying the Kalbsbutterschnitzel (made with ground veal) that comes with mashed potatoes with fried onions on top, veggies and special sauce. Amazing! Gulasch - all kinds - are great as well. Also, for dessert, try the apple and topfen (cheese) strudel combo or crepes. Private parking lot and friendly service are also worth mentioning.
