Dr. Holland is always a pleasure to see. He is knowledgeable, personable, and takes the time to connect with his patients. I appreciate that he remembers our family and makes each visit feel comfortable. I always enjoy our conversations during the exam. He is easy to talk to and really cares. Not sure why this office has only 3.5 starts. I've been coming here for years and the doctors and staff are awesome. Scheduling appointment-the front desk are awesome, they check your insurance, explain your coverage, check your availability then boom, done after 3 min. Check in- again, front desk are really friendly, really patient with my questions, their pre-testing room with the machines are clean plus I see them sanitize it before they do the test, and if the doctor's behind they'll let you know. Exam with the doctor- I had an exam here with most of the doctors. They're really sweet and funny. They examine you thoroughly and when you have any other concern they will examine you further. Ohh and they give you free eye drops when needed. Also, the exam only takes 10-15min. Love it! Check out - the girls here are really honest and sweet. They will let you know if the glasses don't look good on you. Lol BUT they'll let you know which ones the best one. They don't look at the price tag. If it looks good. Bang! It's for you. - they also explained the lenses thoroughly, " advantages and disadvantages." l had to get the anti-glare because the reflection bothers me. Pick up - people in this section/department were so funny! I had a good laugh with them. They adjusted my glasses. It was perfect. I tried to make an appointment recently with Dr Holland. I was told the practice was sold to a location in Burlingame and that Dr Holland is no longer associated with the practice. Has anyone else heard about this? Anyone know where Dr Holland is, I really liked him and saw him for years. I was never notified that my doctor was leaving or that the office was closing. I used to go to the office on Southgate then I followed Dr Holland to the Junipero Serra location. Now - ? Where is everybody? Aren't doctors required by law to tell patients that they are closing their office? I think it's called patient abandonment. Receptionist sucks! I made an appointment for 4 people, wife, 2 kids and me. I told her repeatedly (over the phone while I was making the appointment - 2 weeks ago) that the appointment was for 4 people, and that she needed to block out a good chunk of time since this was the kid's first eye exam. She assured me that she was blocking the extra time. When we now showed up for the appointment, she said she only made an appointment for one! WTF. She said "we can see the rest of the family at 5:45". Seriously!! Why would I make an appointment for 4 and wait an hour because she f up on the schedule? By the way, she stated " I don't remember you telling me that you needed more than one appointment" after I repeatedly told her that the appointment was for 4 and we may need few appointment slots. Now, She was blaming me instead of apologizing for her mistake? People that knows me could vouch that I have a great memory (to a fault / photographic memory), AND I had a witness calling to make an appointment for 4 people. Seeing a doctor (for any reason) is not a fun thing (Everrrrr), and now, we were trying to cheat our way to see a doctor? Seriously? This is not like going to a party or a club, or they are giving away $ to each person they see. Thanks but no thanks. Going to look for another office. Any recommendations? This was my first time I've ever gotten a check-up and eyeglasses outside of Costco Optical and I must say, thumbs up! I'm not quite sure why there are so many subpar reviews. My experience with them was pleasant and speedy. My doctor was Dr. Kan and she was efficient and friendly. What else could you ask for in a doctor? Also, I ordered 3 pairs of glasses, yes 3, and I was able to pick them up in a little over a week's time. If anyone is looking for designer brands, they do carry a nice selection. I picked up a couple of Michael Kors frames and I love them! The employees there always greeted me when I walked in and asked if I had been helped. In addition, they were patient with me in explaining what specifically my insurance covered. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and plan to stick with them! read more

Reiterating what one other reviewer had said: the front desk cares more for one particular ethnic group. I walked in and was ignored. Stood there like an idiot waiting for someone to acknowledge I was there. Even made eye contact and tried getting their attention. Nope. An older gentleman of that ethnic group walks in. "Oh hello! How are you!? (Starts talking in their language)." What the heck. Well after HE was addressed I guess they HAD to acknowledge me, right? Yeah, well, the receptionist finally got paperwork for me after she saw the disgusted look on my face that I was giving her and the steam coming out of my nostrils. I had to keep my mouth shut because I would have regretted what would have come out of my mouth. Oh and I normally order a years worth of contacts. The receptionist gave me 2 boxes since my insurance "only covers 2 boxes." Yes, I am aware of that, that's why *I* buy the rest of the years worth!!! I walked away with the two boxes because I didn't want to spend any more of my money there. -10 stars for employees at the front. 9 stars for the optometrist. read more

Dr. Holland has an excellent team to provide my eye care. I've been coming here for some years now and it's still worth the drive from San Jose. I'm satisfied with for their expertise and professionalism; plus the women staff are all cute (Yes my glasses were on. Jeez) I see Dr. Joanne Shieh and if she's not there, other optometrists will treat you well. They have great respect for you as a customer and you don't feel rushed (in fact I've been late driving down, and it took one phone call to smooth things out)...especially if you're following a megga time-table (OK OK I go there just around Christmas time when the mall is exploding, just so I can meet my VSP deadline. Can you blame me?). Trying to choose frames? Then there's lots to choose from. Maybe they can order stuff that's not there. Waiting for your appointment? Chill. Woke up this morning to an inflamed, red, painful left eye. Saturday morning- oh crap.. Who's going to be open on a Saturday? After calling around, I spoke with Karen at Rotacare in Half Moon Bay (she was wonderful), and she recommended I head over to Dr. Holland's office. I was in there an hour later (nifty!), discussing my problem with the attentive/kind staff. Dr. Holland was thorough, responsive, didn't rush, and his mellow/approachable personality put me at ease. Now, at the age of 33, I continue to return to this optometry office (along with my family) for their expertise, professionalism, and dedication to their patients. Their frame collection is incredible! They have a great selection that will fit whatever your budget may be. If Dr. Holland isn't available, I've also seen Dr. Joann Shieh. Both optometrists treat you with respect and truly take their time to listen to your needs. This is a review for Mila-an office manager, I found her to be very rude and dismissive. The ancillary personal speaks one language between themselves I cannot understand and not attentive to the customers. The reason I am going to this office is the optometrist I follow up with many years-Dr Brosnan, who is a good doctor and has great bedside manners. Located inside Macy's Serramonte mall, by the purse section & main entrance. The staff are very professional, and friendly. As soon as I entered, right away they greeted me and asked if they can help me. I had an appointment, and Karina took care of me, and got started with my eye exam. Prior to that, I had to fill out a form, and then got down to business. After the eye exam, which literally took 1 minute, I sat back down, and Dr. Holland called me in. Did more eye tests, and he was super duper funny and bubbly. I joked with him, and he was awesome to give me free trial clear contacts, (for now) since I was blind, and still had to wait for my glasses to come in. He was kind enough to put my contacts on, for me. After meeting with Dr. Holland, the fun part begins! I got to shop and choose from the many frames they had to offer. Because of my eye insurance, I was only limited from choosing the standard "okay" styles..not really designer name brands, which kinda sucked. Nothing special. Woooo~hooooo! LUCKILY, I actually found one I fell in love with, that l felt confident wearing. =) The negative: While paying for everything, the woman calculated WRONG! I almost paid a ridiculously massive amount. In total, I only had to pay $35! SCORE!!!! Good thing I checked her, on it. Damn right, glad she did, because there's no way I was going to pay THAT much, WITH eye insurance. Freakin' insane. Other than that, great experience. I love it here, and would definitely would come back if I need anything when it comes to my vision. Before this place, without insurance, I was paying too damn much at Costco. Boooo! Never again. I paid $125 for contact lenses fitting and they gurantee that I can try as much lenses as I need if they don't give me clear vision. I tried about 4 pairs and none of them is satisfactory. They said I have astigmatism and it's not possible for any contacts to give me 100%, clear vision. I understand that but those lenses really don't work. I feel like I will have a car crash if I wear contacts while driving. And I end up getting nothing after paying $125. read more

We have been going to see Dr. Shieh or Dr. Holland for many years now. Despite living first at the East Bay and now the South Bay, we still make the trek! The staff is friendly and caring. I was given a prescription by The Dr for an eye irritation. I called back to schedule a follow up to see if the drugs worked. They insisted on charging me for a follow up. I'll be filing a complaint to the Board that regulates optometrists. My family will not being doing business here again! read more

One good thing is that they are conveniently located near Macy's. Their staff is not very knowledgeable or friendly. They obviously and outwardly give better attention to one particular ethnic group. When we ordered our glasses, we gave them a specific address to send the glasses to. Once the glasses arrived I had to remind them twice (once on Friday then again on Tuesday) that they were to mail them out and it was noted in the file: both times they confirmed that the note was in the file with the correct address. Eleven days later, I called to find out the status of the glasses. They claimed that they "mailed them out last night". Does it really take ten days to mail out a pair of glasses. Incompetent! I must say, the two different doctors that we have seen have been very GOOD. The rest of the staff leave MUCH to be desired in all aspects of customer service. They suck! After, this experience, we are definitely looking for a new optometrist. Sorry, Dr. Holland: but you need a much better front office staff. read more

I've seen Dr Paul Holland for quite long time since 1989, and her Senior Receptionist Mila is one of the best! They both know what's best for you but there's one guy and a few younger one are not efficient and courteous In fact I went there couple time recently to ask for a free sample eye drop and to repair my eye glasses were told that I should make appointment to see Dr Holland first before they can do anything about it. Mila was on vacation on those two incidents After the 2nd incident I didn't go back anymore and I am shopping for another competent Optometrist. I hope Dr Holland and Mila see this review. read more

I made the mistake of buying glasses at Daly City Optometry and they did a horrible hack job and acted as if my daughter and I purchased glasses there and needed them fitted. Dr. Holland junior is the best eye doctor I've ever had. I've been changing eye doctor for the last 5 years until I found his practice. My coworkers recommended me his father but Dr. Holland junior office is closer to home.. I've had the best experience ever. They were really attentive to my mother's insurance issues and gave us plenty of attention. She saw Dr. Holland (Sr) and I would gladly refer him to any of my friends. This review is six years late, and for that I apologize. My first cataract surgery was performed by "one of the best" ophthalmologists in San Francisco. As I sit here seven years later, my left eye is still watering and my vision is less than I had hoped. However, my right eye is perfect. Dr. Holland performed the surgery in 2010 and I could not be more thrilled. His professional acumen and down-to-earth communication skills erased the discomfort, fear and or results from my first cataract surgery. He discovered a condition called Fuchs that was ameliorated by his performing a procedure before replacing the cataract. I not only had a perfect result, I feel Dr. Holland saved my vision. Felt the need to share his great review about this incredible man. Dr. Holland has been my ophthalmology doctor since my kids were born (11yo and 7yo). There are no words can describe how happy we are that we are his patients. Very patient delicate, attentive, intelligent takes his time with patients. Never rushes us out the door. Always treats my family with special attention. He is absolutely great with kids and most importantly very patient with them. Always has a smile on his face. My kids absolutely enjoy going there and have absolutely no fear of visiting doctors. It is blessing to have him. His staff is very professional, knowledgeable and friendly.
