Sorry - I accidentally pressed "send". As I was saying - I picked-up my prescription glasses last Friday, March 27th. It was too dark - not for office use. The young lady (another young employee - no name tag) who gave me the glasses asked me to try it for 3-months and just come back if it won't work in the office. What made it more frustrating was she didn't even adjust the glasses so it falls each time I wear it. I went back last Saturday, March 28th - to have the lens changed and the glasses adjusted. Another young guy said I need to come back when Zenia or Josephine is around. For God's sake!! In the decades under the care of Dr. Yamada - I never experienced these poor services: dark glasses like shades; glasses given without adjusting; called the office thrice to ask when Zenia will be around - you cannot reach a live person - - all recorder. How many times do I need to go back to have this fixed? It's just a waste of time. I wish these young ones will be as serious as those senior emloyees. read more

They had to change a defective progressive lens to a single vision and they refused to reimburse the $72.00 that was the additional amount that I paid for the progressive lens. The woman was trying to explain why they would not refund the monies, and the more she explained the more she contradicted herself with all the rambling. There was no need for an explanation. It was crystal clear that they had to refund the additional amount paid for something that was defective. This woman was dishonest the same as the store itself. I left the place with $72.00 less. We've been coming here for a few years now for vision checkups and buying our prescription glasses. The eye exams have been thorough and consistently well administered. The office staff is very responsive and helpful with making appointments, pulling up insurance details and billing. They carry a diverse selection of frames for prescription glasses and sunglasses from regular brands like your RayBans to luxury brands like Prada, Gucci etc. You may need to book your vision exam a few weeks in advance due to high demand. read more

They're purposefully deceptive and unscrupulous about booking patients for their new fangled retinal scanner machine vs traditional dilation. When making my appt, the coordinator asked if I wanted the traditional or retinal scanner machine (extra $15 for $25 total copay). I explicitly told her I wanted the traditional because it's considered the gold standard. Regardless they booked me for the machine and played dumb. Oops, our bad, now pay the $25. After reading other reviewers experience the same bait and switch, I know now it's their SOP. That's fine, they got their extra few bucks, but lost my business in return. Really dumb. read more

Prepare to pay a $15 ransom! Came in for an eye exam. They push very hard for you to pay $15 extra to use their special machine instead of dilation. I declined and was informed that then I'd have to stay at their smelly and poorly ventilated office for 1.5 hours until the dilation wore off. I informed them that I was going to walk home, not drive. A: No matter, safety issue. I inquired if I would be held against my will? A: No, you can pay $15 and not be dilated. My ophthalmologist has dilated my eyes multiple times and never held me hostage at their office. At this point, I took my business elsewhere. read more

I went downtown and requested an appointment for a contact lens exam--I didn't want an exam for glasses, only for contact lenses! I asked for the cost of the exam and was told it was $160. I returned for my appointment, underwent the tests, and to my surprise, they performed an exam for glasses instead of contact lenses; I was told that if I wanted the exam for contact lenses, I would have to pay an additional $79! I explained that I had requested only contact lenses--not glasses--right from the start, but they claimed it was a communication error due to the language barrier. Very disappointing optometry office I have visited. This was my first time and last time visited this westlake optometry. I scheduled both eye exams for my wife and on the weekend. They told me they have options for patient to choose to pay $15 for taking picture in the back of eyes or traditional eye dilation. I told them I do not want to pay for eye pictures WE BOTH CAN DO tradiotional dilations. But now this morning, when we arrived they said one of doctors who is going to help my wife won't do traditional eye dilation and it is required to pay $15 for taking a picture for her eyes. Why was this not communicated before I scheduled??? Why was I not communicated when I received a text message from your clinic for appointment confirmation??? Why did I not received a phone call as reminder. So I had to cancellled one of my appointments. They forced you to pay $15 for eye pictures because the receptionist said it is required by law!!! This is not a patient center clinic and very poor communications. I saved my whole morning for my annual eye exam now I had to cancelled it. Anyone who is willing to stick with the better call to confirm before you go during your appointment so you don't get scammed. This review is about my experience purchasing prescription glasses through this practice. The routine eye exam was fine. TLDR: Rethink purchasing glasses or anything through this practice. The front office staff is nice, but don't know anything about your order and will give you the run around (e.g., say they'll call back but never do, say it's backordered from manufacturer but not the case when you contact the manufacturer, etc.). I went in for my annual exam October 22 and decided to use my vision benefits to purchase prescription glasses. Towards the end of the exam, I learned they carried Oakley and the optometrist recommended to place the order through the practice so they'll submit the claims for the vision benefits. I placed an order for the exact same pair. The front staff had let me know it would take about 3 weeks and would receive a text. Fast forward 2 months later, I've called in 3 separate times (5 weeks after the exam, early December, and today) and never received any text. First time, they said it was backordered and lens cutter was waiting for the frame. Fine. Second time, they said they didn't know and would give a call back. Never received a call back. I called Oakley to confirm they had the SKU in stock. Third time (today), I was out right brushed off and the staff said they would call by end of the day or early tomorrow (Christmas eve). I asked for a refund and was brushed off again. Let's see. This practice really needs to re-evaluate their supply chain, logistics, and overall customer experience. I'm a new patient and making an appointment was quick and easy. My appointment was on August 14th and I also purchased glasses and contacts on the same day. The service was great and Dr. Chen was really nice and helpful. I was advised prior to leaving that I would receive a text message notifying me when my contacts and glasses arrived. After a week of receiving no notification, I called and I was told that my contacts and glasses were still not ready. The first week of September instead of calling I went by the office and they said my contacts just shipped as well as my glasses. I called on Saturday, September 14th and they said my glasses and contacts arrived but I had not received a text message notification. I went today and they had my contacts and glasses ready although my glasses needed to be inspected by a glasses tech of some sort which took just a few minutes. I recommend making an appointment with them to get a new prescription for glasses/contacts. I highly recommend taking your prescriptions and getting your glasses/contacts else where, for a quicker and better service experience on that part. You can get your glasses/contacts a lot quicker that way. I did not like having to wait an entire month when I could've ordered both online or gone to another optometry business and received them a lot quicker with better notification service. read more

Initially, I chose the one that is quicker but realized that since I have nothing to do, I called them to change my option. Told me that I can't change it since it's already booked. Doctor Chen and my technician were amazing. Both kind, courteous, professional and ensured I was taken care of. Front desk is another story. In the past when I've come here the front desk has been hit or miss. The girl working the front looked like a college student or nursing student , clearly annoyed and hating her job and was not friendly or polite. I made an appointment for a regular exam, and a contact consultation weeks prior. After the exam, I was told to wait 30min for the contact consultation and when my time came around I had trouble getting the contacts in. (I've used Halloween lenses in the past, but I am by no means a pro). After asking my technician multiple times if he "was done yet" while helping me, I was told by the front desk girl I had to reschedule because I was taking too long trying to figure out how to put the lens in. Ok cool...I waited 30min just to be told taking 10min trying to put in a contact lens was taking too long... I paid for everything, clearly annoyed, left and front desk girl calls me. She intentionally calls me by an incorrect name (same girl with an attitude) and asks me to reschedule the contact lens appointment. No thanks. I've had this place as my eye doctor for several years now and even though I moved out to San Jose I was still willing to make the drive down here for the service. Please stop hiring nursing students that graduated from high school mean girl to front desk bully. read more

My family have been going here for more than 15 years. We have referred family and friends to go there. We were happy with their service till today. Debbie had scheduled an eye exam for myself and my husband couple of weeks ago, one at 5pm and the other 5:30pm. My husband went there first, got there at 4:50pm they didn't want to take him in said the appointment was for me. My husband told the girl there that he is there now and his wife will follow appt at 5:30pm. Then I get a call from my husband telling me that they'll have to cancel my appointment since I'm late, again we have a 5:30pm appointment. This is so upsetting. Every year we go there with my family staying there from morning till they close patiently waiting and they will say they'll cancel my appointment. Initially front desk staff was nice when I first came in. After the visit, I called 3 times for my prescription to be sent to me and it was downhill from there. It took almost a month and half after to receive my scripts. The first time I called I was on hold for 54 minutes. Second time a lady actually wrote down my information, and said somebody would follow up and I received only my glasses prescription but not my contacts. The third time I called the office the lady snapped at me and said she was back from being sick, yes I was upset about waiting for my scripts but I was not yelling or rude, I let her know I've called several times - no need for that attitude. I just wanted my prescription. It's a business - people should get the product they came for and not wait unnecessarily. The office staff needs better organization, better customer care and leadership something seems off. I really liked my doctor and the exam went well. the doctor, pearl yee, was great but my experience with the office has been negative. seems they cared until they got my money. once they handed my glasses to me, the technician spent less than five minutes to ensure that they fit properly and worked for me (they do not). it was a big hassle to go back in for a refit considering they didn't offer me an appointment even after i asked for one. the waiting from was swamped and don't get me started on the gridlock of a parking lot. and when i wrote in to express this concern, i got no response. they clearly don't care about my time, my experience, or the quality of their own work. i'll go elsewhere next time. read more

Absolutely terrible service. We used to come to see Dr. Rosanna Chen at Westlake Vision Center for prescriptions and glasses whenever we were due for new exams, however we stopped because they no longer took our insurance. A few years back, we made an appointment and were called by the office a few days prior to let us know that they are cancelling our appointment due to them not taking our insurance anymore. Absolutely fine - totally understandable! Flash forward to today and we found out Westlake Optometry accepts my parents' new insurance. I called in to make an appointment for a Saturday, to which the front desk confirmed there were times available. She asked for patient names and put me on hold.. only to come back and ask if we can do weekday instead because of a 'history of cancelled appointments'. I was extremely confused because we have never cancelled an appointment with them other than the last one, which was cancelled by THEIR OFFICE! I asked if there was a mistake, because that is not possible. I am the one who makes all their appointments and never cancelled any appointments. She then proceeds to tell me that it is actually for 'no show'. Trust me when I tell you that we have never no-show'd a doctor's appointment EVER. We hate when people do that to us so we would never do that to our doctors (also because this usually means we get charged a fee by the office - there's no way we are going to risk paying unnecessary fees). I explained what the last thing that happened was and she just kept telling me she isn't sure and she will ask the doctor since they were the one who wrote the note. I said fine and hung up. After some thought, I called back to let them know there is no need and we will never come back again. I would hate to go to a medical provider who treats their patients like this. It is extremely offensive. My guess? The staff at the office probably forgot to cancel the appointment and left it on schedule, so when no one showed up, they did not want to take responsibility for it and the doctor assumed it was the patients. If you read other reviews you see that others also have issues with the supporting staff and their appointments/last minute insurance notices. Trust me, stay away from this place! read more

First off, I would like to say that Dr. Chen is a great doctor who shows compassion for her patients. I've been a patient at Westlake Vision for a very long time with not many problems to report. The few problems I've encounter have been with the front desk staff and their lack of urgency or concern. Today was no different . I stopped by to schedule a appointment to do an exchange pair of shades I've had there for sometime that did not work out well for me. The glasses were too large; even with the adjustments that was made. Karen agreed to allow me to do an exchange, so I ordered a different pair. As I was ringing the bell for entrance, I observed a MA speaking with a patient; there was no one else at the front desk at the time. No answer! I proceeded to ring the bell again with no answer; just a look from the MA. At this time, I became angry because she could have simply acknowledge me at the door, but she made the decision not to. I finally get inside and voiced my frustration with the staff about how the MA should have handled the matter differently, yet, she chose to ignore me. What she should have done was ask her patient if she would mind waiting while she answered the door. Never happened! As I was leaving out, I called her in her BS and of course, the look of dumbness was in her face. Needless to say, I got a call from the office stating that I was rude and they will not be seeing me for my glasses. The hell you want!! I'm going to get what I paid for. I don't k own if it's just me, but I've never ever seen any other African Americans at this place of business each time I've gone and I've always had issues with someone at the front desk. I will say this, if you're a person of color, don't waste your time going here. If you don't speak the language and look the part you will not get acknowledged. read more

Long story short: There is no accountability or ownership if they make a mistake and provide you with incorrect information. If you visit this optometry office, you will also feel pressured to try specific contact brands even if you tell them you know which brand you want. Long story: I came in for an eye exam for contacts and glasses. I met with Dr. Scott Sakata for an eye exam and then I worked with one of the front desk staff to order my contacts and pick my glasses. They confirmed that my high prescription made it "medically necessary" and my insurance would cover the full cost of my contacts or glasses. After reviewing the costs with the staff member, we decided it would be more beneficial to have my insurance cover the contacts and I would pay for my glasses. The cost for glasses here is overpriced. They offer a 20% discount but even with that discount they still charge $550 for 1.74 index lenses (required because of my high prescription). After some research, most other retailers only charge approx. $200 for the same lenses. The $550 cost does not include the frames. For my contacts, I told them I liked the MyDay Toric brand. Since they didn't have this brand in the office with my new prescription they had me test a different brand. The person helping me with contacts kept mentioning a brand with a rebate but that didn't matter to me since my insurance was covering it. The following day I got a call from the person that helped me to ask me about my contacts. I told her I still preferred the myDay Toric and she confirmed she placed the order to be delivered to my home, no charge. A week later I get a voicemail letting me know that my contacts were available to be picked up at their office. I assume they made a mistake and I go to pick it up, but when I get there, they hand me trials of the brand I chose and trials for another brand. I don't understand why I needed another trial when I was clear I preferred the brand I've been using for years. Two months later, I call them to ask to have my contacts delivered to my home. They tell me the delivery cost is $12 and notify me that my prescription no longer meets the medically necessary criteria. They barely reviewed my prescription. They tell me Dr. Sakato no longer works there and was unaware of the change in requirements. I tell the person on the phone my experience and they seem unwilling to help. They offered no resolution except to email me my prescription. I visited another optometrist and had them review my prescription. They actually took the time to review it, and confirmed that my prescription is medically necessary. Don't believe anything they say at Westlake Vision Center. The staff at Westlake Vision Center are unprofessional and unwilling to help. The main reason I visited this office was for convenience but this entire experience has been nothing of that sort. read more

I came to see Chloe back on 2/28 about my prescription glasses stop doing transition after almost 2 years of wearing it. I was told that I will hear back from her after she talk to the lab. After that, I made weekly calls to the office with the commit from the receptionist that someone will call me back, but still haven't hear back from anyone regarding to whether or not I will get a replacement len after a month from the first time that I came to office. Do not come here! Unless you love BAD, UNPROFESSIONAL customer service and have time in your hands to waste your time because they are forgetful and slow! Every time I come here I am annoyed by the way the workers handle situations. The only good person there is Anita because she is the original and has been there for years. This is the final straw that has lead me to make my decision that I will not be coming back here next year-- I came in to pick up my trial contacts, which I have been waiting for a month because they got sent the wrong prescription & then forgot to order the correct one until I CAME in! When I came to pick it up (FINALLY), the doctor asked me previously to see her b/t patient appts so she can see how they look before I take it home. As I'm waiting for an HOUR, I ask the receptionist how much long do I need to wait? Esp since the doctor is the one that told me NOT to make an appt since it's a "quick" 10 min look. Come to find out that the receptionist nor a worker, Georgina DID NOT even tell the Dr that I've been waiting!!!!!!!!!!! Anita asked them, "Did you tell Dr. Chen that she is waiting?" Both of them looked at each other confused and went "uhhh...no" At this point, I am angry because I have wasted an hour of my time. And because they ask me if I can come back in ANOTHER HOUR. I ended up having to make an appointment because I did not want to wait TWO hours total for a 10 minute check up. Ridiculous! I do not recommend this place any longer. I had my first eye exam here with a new insurance so all I knew was that my copay would be $10 for an eye exam. Someone on the phone told me that when I was scheduling my exam that the contact lens exam would be included so I didn't think much of it. When I arrived, the door was locked (for safety) and so I rang the doorbell to enter and was told to check in with the receptionist. She told me that there's a new machine they're using to check my retina instead of doing the dilation drops, much faster, etc. but that I would have to pay $15 out of pocket. I opted out of it because I had a ride waiting for me outside. She asked me if I was sure, I said yes. Then, I did my (pre-?) eye exam (with my contacts on) with the technician, went well. I saw Dr. Yamada and he was very friendly, quick and thorough. Towards the end of my exam, he told me he would be placing drops in my eye that would not affect my vision -- in hindsight I wish I would've spoken up about it but things were moving quite quickly and I'm not the type to speak up, just to go with the flow. The machine was interesting. It's like your face gets smushed up against it and a bright light flashes into your eye, one at a time. Then Dr. Yamada brought me back in to show me the results. Very cool! He then gave me my prescriptions, recommended a similar contact lens brand, advised me about some rebates, etc and walked me back to the receptionist where he wrote down to another receptionist what we did and total cost. The total cost for the eye exam and everything together was around $61.00. I just paid it because it made sense to me at the time but I wish I had an actual receipt that told me everything my exam included (I did get one, but just one that says the total price) so I feel a little better. Overall it was a good experience and it was interesting to test out a new machine. I hope that next time, there's better communication between the staff regarding any optional procedures, or at least paperwork that you sign and check off stating you want something done or not. read more

I got 3 texts of assuring me to come on my appointment on time, then when I got to their clinic, after the initial eye exam she called me just to tell me that my insurance is not yet qualified for such treatment. Recently had an appointment here with Dr. Chen. She was extremely rude and condescending during the appointment. Made me feel veery uncomfortable during the appointment with whatever problems she was having that day. Will never see her again. Front desk woman, Debbie, is also very unorganized and always frazzled when I have a visit here. It is very strange honestly. My family and I have been coming here for many years and usually always have Dr. Yomada. He is GREAT! He goes through each patient's medical history and runs extra tests to make sure there is nothing seriouS happening with our eyes.
