I have been here before and had a good experience; however, this time was not pleasant. I went in for a hair color- highlights and cut. The instructor assigned 2 students to do my hair. Each doing one side of my hair foils. Welp, I had 2 different outcomes and it was horrific! One side had chunkier highlights and my the bleach took way better. The other side were thing highlights and the bleach was not properly applied so there was little color change. The Instructor didn't bother to check the fouls before having them move to toning so I was stuck looking like 2 people. I heard the girls then talk to the instructor at the hair wash area, she just told them to use a particular toner- mind you she still didn't bother to check my hair although the girls were clearly troubles with the outcome as was I. They put the toner in, let it set, cut my hair and styled it (unpretty style). I was so dissatisfied and upset at this point since this was a birthday treat. I simply paid, left no tip (I always tip) and left. The barber instructor did aid the girls and had my haircut properly. Her is a photo of both sides of my hair. LESSON: Paul Mitchell School: Please DO NOT EVER assign 2 students to do someone's color. Foil techniques cary even if they are using the same technique. The colors of my hair ate accurate. i had an appt at 1pm. i wasn't able to be seen until 1:40pm. 20 mins into waiting I went to the reception to see how long will it before I was seen she said she sent it off to the back when I arrived. 10 mins later a student who was sitting came over and asked my name and said she'll be with me shortly. at 1:40 she called me to her chair but unfortunately I told her I wasn't able to proceed with the appt today because almost an hour has passed and we weren't gonna have enough time. I then told the receptionist and was told "well this isn't a salon this is a school" when I told her I wanted to speak to someone about the time. Giving them 2 stars because I've had decent service in the past. However this recent attempt, I had booked a service and was told my appointment wasn't in the system. I've called to book many times and have never ran into this issue. Meghan A was working the front desk and told me I could wait 15-20 mins and they would let me know if there was an opening. My information was not taken so i couldn't even be placed on the walk-in list if there even was one! After 30-mins, no one approached me so I walked up to the front desk, waited another 10 mins before she approached the counter and was told there was no opening. This should've been personally communicated to me after the 15-20 min wait - I should not have had to walk up to the front desk and wait again to be told this. I asked to reschedule for an appointment at a later date. I was told I was in the system and should get a confirmation text. I stood there for 10 mins waiting for my text and never received one but she assured me I was in the system. Come the day of my appointment, still no confirmation text. I was never put on the schedule AGAIN so I left and went to another place. This is a failure on both the school's system and the salon service desk - if they, too, are students, the school is preparing them to be failures in customer service. read more

These are students who are still being guided and helped by professionals in the business. They offer multiple services and I really love their line of color hair dye. I've been to this place before and It's cool for what it is. However, I have a problem with purposely placing clients with ethnic hair with non-ethnic ppl even if requested otherwise. I understand it's a learning school but if you have never even heard of what I'm wanting or how to do it I should be able to request a different stylist. And that's simply on preserving my hair health. Tbh learning how to do other ethnicities hair is a great learning opportunity but there are somethings you need to practice on a mannequin head and not a live person. First off they took 30 mins for me to start my service that I already made an appointment for a week ago,and made me wait in the car during that time because of Covid 19. The girl that did my balayage was not really getting much oversight by the teachers and the teachers don't know what they are doing either ! And then while another girl styled me she burned my forehead With the curling iron. I'm furious because not only do I not look like the picture I wanted they made me blonde with a burn on my forehead ! So they say come in for the toner and the instructor sees pictures of where I would like the balayage darkened to but makes it entirely brown instead . Then she tried to make me believe that it looked close like any of the pictures !! Never going there again save your money and time!! Total of 8 hours wasted and damaged my hair ! I used to go to Toni & Guy Academy in Carrollton for years. It was okay- I didn't expect much from a place where you can get such an edgy haircut for so cheap. It was a really young, hip atmosphere, but the care given to customers wasn't that great. The Paul Mitchell School in Arlington was a lot closer to me, and the treatment of the students by their teachers was much more thorough, just by my listening in. Customer service from the minute I walked in was much more professional and personal. I found out from my student stylist, not even the teacher, that since I grew my hair out from super short, the texture has changed, and I should use products more for dry hair. Normally, I avoid trying new products recommended at a salon because of price and feeling obligated, but I was never pressured. In fact I asked what they sold there for a change, and I swear by them! There is a little bit of a wait when it gets busy, but it's a school with students learning, and a popular one at that! I still use one Toni and Guy styling product, but I doubt I will go back to their school... this one feels so much more like an actual high-end salon! Very satisfied!! I attached a photo from the first time I went. Everywhere I go to get a cut, I am told I have the most hair anyone has ever seen- not thick- just more per follicle. I used to go here all the time. I have never had a service that couldn't be easy fixed and expected that since it is a school but lately I haven't been able to get in here. I call and the phone just rings, I go up there and they are closed for a special event, they don't leave any kind of message on to let you know before you waste you time driving up there. I never write reviews & i feel bad doing so but i have been coming to Paul Mitchell for 4 years and have never had a problem. Yesterday i went in for a trim of an inch or less all straight no layers or anything and this is what happened, a 2-3 inch difference. I went back in as soon as i left and asked to get it fix and they said they saw no problem with it & i was shocked! If you think this is normal you aren't teaching your students correctly. I have naturally curly hair and it is hard to find someone who gets the cut right. I enjoy color and highlights so I am a full service customer. I have a Service Dog and I appreciate the way the staff and students recognize me as a person and give us our personal space. They have a full range of services. It's an excellent place to pamper yourself. Students are closely supervised and they don't allow a customer to go out of the shop dissatisfied. I have used the school for all my cuts and color this year and I have LOVED IT. My hair looks like I had it done at an upscale salon.
